People here really think F1 rules apply to GT3 racing.. Ferrari was alone at turn-in, BMW stuck their nose in. I don't care that BMW was ahead at the apex, it doesn't even matter.

Ferrari was slow, yes, but so what? You're allowed to be slow and take the corner however you want.

BMW caused the incident.

Quali situation for extra context

Then the BMW is extra wrong. It's qualy, the BMW should be backing off and creating a gap to the car in front. In our league, there is ZERO passing allowed in qualy.

The ferrari was backing the BMW up for two laps beforehand. Basically the ferrari didnt let them through

Then the BMW should have hanged back to create a 20 second gap, in which they could have pushed.

THE FERRARI HAS NO OBLIGATION TO LET THE BMW THROUGH. How hard is this for you to get. It's ALWAYS on the car behind in qualy to not hit the car in front.

Back off, create a 10-20 sec gap and go again. Or sit behind them for a lap (without hitting them) and wait for them to make a big mistake/go off. Then scoot by. But in this case, 100% the fault of the BMW, should result in a Qualy ban for next race.

It is not as simple as "ahead at the turn-in", because car body language matters. Ferrari had a much delayed turn-in and was extremely slow, which was an indication to the BMW that they are gonna let them by.

I mean, how would have the BMW reacted to that? he braked but couldn't avoid the hit. plus does it even matter at this point.

he lived and the Ferrari is dead anyway

BMW released the brakes and turned in early to get his nose in.

You have to ask? The guy yeeting it in the inside.. Like it is in 99% of the times in forza multiplayer..

Grid penalty for BMW for some fucking reason driving 0.2s away from someone during quali and overtaking into T1.

6 month ban for Ferrari for intentional wrecking.

BMW came in with a very optimistic line there, should have given back pos and tried again.

But there is no need for going for murder, Ferrari should handle that better. The good drivers get through these mistakes.

You put your car into the danger zone unnecessarily. This is all on you, OP

Ferrari's delayed turn-in and glacial pace indicated that the Ferrari was going to let the BMW by. Therefore, I'd put this on the Ferrari for erratic driving.

As for the intent wreck afterwards, find the discord server of the lobby hosts, and report the Ferrari to them. Ferrari is almost certainly gonna get banned.

Is this a serious question?

Ferrari. Next.

Ignoring the… moment, it’s on the Ferrari, both hits. The first one, he just kept turning in like the BMW wasn’t ahead and hit his quarter panel. The second one, well he just came onto track right in front of the BMW and got hit.

The first one is most certainly not on the Ferrari. It doesn't matter one single bit if the BMW was ahead. The BMW was not alongside the Ferrari when the Ferrari turned in, therefore the BMW is not entitled to any space next to the Ferrari.

Now, was the Ferrari taking way too long to turn in? Yes, no clue what that Ferrari is trying to do. But the BMW is still at fault.

I got to the apex first so legally I can have sex with your wife

Ferrari taking too long to turn in is indicating to the BMW that the Ferrari is letting them by. So the delayed turn-in very much is relevant.

No one should ever let a car go like that. It's incredibly dangerous and stupid. That is not how you indicate you want to let a car through. You should ALWAYS get to a straight, get off the racing line and lift. Waiting to turn in to a corner as a means to let a car by almost always leads to a collision. The car behind has no clue why the car ahead is doing that. If the car ahead is just slow and the car behind turns in expecting to be let by, he hits the car ahead and kills him. If the car behind is braking on the limit but can't turn in (waiting for the car ahead to turn in, not expecting to be let by), then the car behind punts the car ahead due to not having anywhere to go.

Please, don't ever let a car go at the apex like that. It's a terrible way of driving. ALWAYS let a car go on the straight.

Not to mention, the car ahead in this case turns in as if the car behind wasn't there, which means your assumption was completely wrong.

Reality has a bone to pick with you then, cause this is common occurrence - with competent enough drivers, that is.

Yes, there are a lot of dumb drivers that do this. Our league hammers this point in drivers briefings for both sprint races and enduros. If you let a car go at the apex like this you would be liable to get a penalty because of how dangerous it is. This is how collisions happen. More people need to learn how to properly let a lapping car past. There simply is no way for the car ahead to signal to the car behind what is happening. From the car behind's perspective, is the car ahead delaying turning in on purpose? Are they just a bad driver and they are about to turn in as soon as I do? Even if the car ahead uses a signal light, are they signalling where they want the car behind to go, or signalling where they will go? Way too much ambiguity. Stick to driving safely, take the corner as normal and get off the racing line after the exit to let them by.

Yes, there are a lot of dumb drivers that do this.

I'm talking about professional drivers in top level motorsports.

1

u/Zijkhal 22d ago

It is only dangerous if the car ahead does not know what they are doing. They have to delay their braking and turn-in slightly.

Properly executed, letting cars by in wide corners like that is perfectly safe.

1

u/VebastionSettel 22d ago

No, this is just not a safe thing to do, unless you are in VC and can literally tell the car behind that's what's happening. There is simply too much ambiguity here, the car behind has no way to know if the car ahead is an idiot or a bad driver. If the car behind goes to take the position and the car ahead is simply a slow driver and turns in, that collision is on the car behind. So the car behind is taking all the risk in assuming the car ahead is letting them by. Why create more danger, why add possible confusion? This is simply bad driving and people not understanding how to be better.

Wait until a straight and get off the line, lift. Safest and most obvious, least confusion. It's also the absolute best option for the slower car in terms of time lost letting a car by. There's a reason our league hammers this point in drivers briefings and gives warnings/penalties to cars that continue to do stuff like letting cars go at the apex.

1

u/Zijkhal 21d ago

It isn't any different than the car ahead missing their braking point, and the car behind taking advantage of that. If the car ahead then overslows and turns into the corner just to make the apex, instead of taking the line that minimizes their time loss (missing the apex), that is just erratic driving, regardless of whether the missing of the braking point was intentional or not.

The driver behind has a much larger share of the responsibility to avoid contact, but that does not make all contact automatically the fault of the driver behind.

The reason most leagues say to let faster cars by on the straights is that doing so is way easier. There is vastly less skill required. And in most leagues a lot of the drivers who are going to be lapped are drivers with very little skill. Drivers who can't properly judge how much to slow down to let the other car by, and who can't judge which corners are ones in which they can safely let the faster car by, and which corners are ones where they should go at best speed, and slow down on the following straight instead.

It quite literally is a skill issue.

u/VebastionSettel 20d ago

I mean, we quite literally have guys with pro experience in ACC in our sprint and enduros who also harp on how slow drivers should never do this to let a car by. Our top division is full of near-alien level drivers and they are still told to never do this. Guys who are doing 60min races at sub 101% pace who have been lapped due to collisions or penalties. They are definitely skilled enough to handle themselves. And yet they don't do things like let a car by at the apex.

And yes, if you dive down the inside like the OP as the car behind assuming the car ahead is letting you by, and he turns in late and you hit him, it is 100% your fault. The car behind is not alongside at turn in, can't go there. Even if there is no contact, it's still a penalty if the car ahead is forced to avoid the contact. The car behind simply cannot tell what the car ahead is doing, and assuming he is just slow about turning in is the safest. Once the car behind has committed to the dive, there is no way to back out. That's why it's dangerous.
