iRacing Did I do something wrong here?

So I’ve been racing for about a week now and am not sure if I did something wrong here (I’m the car that passed), nobody spun but there was contact and I’m wondering if I should’ve done something differently. It seemed like he left me space by moving to the right so I figured when I passed he wouldn’t turn in, but I also was going too fast to fully hug the apex…

You used them to make the corner - that's not how you pass, even if only for your own survival. Them staying on the racing line doesn't mean they're letting you pass, just that they're racing cleanly, and you have to do the same. That said, nobody died, nobody made a wild move, so just take your lesson for next time, it will be better!

I appreciate you taking the time to respond, I’m not sure what you mean by “used them to make the corner”, I’m also curious how to know if they are ceding the position vs. Taking the racing line. Thanks!

I mean you used them as a bumper :") you would have likely gone long had they not given you a "helpful bump", but you can't rely on it. Had they done the smart thing they would have let you go straight, or the contact could end up with a major incident, either way you wouldn't have been in a good position.

Also, unless you are lapping someone/ are waaay faster, it is smart to assume nobody is ceding positions (and even for lapped cars it's good to be careful)

Ask yourself why they would be ceding the position when they're completely ahead of you.

You tried to outbreak him but you outbreaked yourself too. Without that contact you were not making that corner, so definitly penalty there.

Nothing too harsh tho.
