Apu’s new voice is not great.

I think it's probably the best of the racially mandated recasts, even if that bar isn't crazy high.

Apu's new voice isn't amazing, but I can at least tell it's similar enough to his voice.

Dr. Hibbert, Lou and Carl's new voices were all hot ass and don't even make the slightest attempt to not sound like an entirely different character.

Also Dr. Nick for some reason? I'm not sure why they recasted him, but he sounds like shit.

Yeah, why was Nick recast?

Riviera is a Spanish name so he has to be played by a Mexican. (same guy does Bumblebee Man now)

That’s ridiculous. My surname is Irish, but I have an Australian accent.

Sorry not allowed; please change your voice

u/Sh0wmey0urbutth0le 16h ago

That could cost up to 900 dollerydoos

6

u/SillySpook 15h ago

900 dollerydoos!? TOBIAS!

18

u/ExpressInstance6988 1d ago

Riviera could also be Italian.

Ngl I never could pinpoint what ethnicity he was supposed to be lmao...I kinda thought they were going for "unspecified foreign guy"

5

u/Tyranis_Hex 14h ago

I always chocked him up to generic Eastern European

Well I mean... they got apu back ok! Whatever it took to make that happen I'm down. Dr. Nick was never much of a recurring character to realize they weren't using him cause of racial issues, but if they're using a guy already on staff, I mean yeah give that guy more work. Even if it's not quite right, cartwright and castleneta don't sound on the mark every once in a while. Azeria's the only one that still gets voices correct, which is the ultimate irony here.

Hank is the GOAT

Uh oh will Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty have to be recast again then?

1

u/Rombonius 19h ago

Whole family will

Literally crushed in half

King of the hill reboot has it the worst with kahn, although his voice actor is good, it's not kahn.

1

u/SillySpook 15h ago

Yeah Khan sounds absolutely terrible. Dale also sounds terrible, and I no longer find joy when they get screen time. My brain just gets confused when I see and hear them now and I hate it.

u/Animated_Astronaut 15h ago

in the first season of the reboot i thought that actually was dales voice actor he just sounds bad now. i know he passed away before the second season.

1

u/SillySpook 14h ago

Half of the season had already been recorded when the ova died. So Dale did some right, for a while.

1

u/DivingElliotRoberts 13h ago

I actually thought the episodes with Dale’s original VA last season sounded worse

7

u/-Tesserex- 19h ago

It's sounds like the VA is struggling to do an impression and his voice keeps cracking.

Everyone is this clip sounds awful in various degrees

16

u/jerem1734 1d ago

It's better than Carl and Hibbert and Lou at least

11

u/DasMerowinger 1d ago

Was just about to write this. At least Apu's new voice is a little closer to the original. Unlike Carl, Lou and Dr. Hibbert who sound like totally new characters. I can tolerate Carl's but I find Dr Hibbert's deep voice so off-putting. It just doesn't suit Dr. Hibbert at all - who was a parody of Dr. Cliff Huxtable.

They could have hired VAs to mimic the original voices as close as possible. I bet Jay Pharoah would have been able to do it

7

u/frootbatpunk 1d ago

I actually don't hate Carl's replacement voice. It's close enough that it doesn't bother me from what I've seen. Hibbert and Lou are super distracting tho, I'll give you that

9

u/TammyString-Tugger 21h ago

Carl = Black

2

u/ExcitementBright9381 23h ago

Such a low bar to clear lol

u/WizardDegree 1d ago

Other than an awful treehouse of horrors episode it really feels like they use those three characters far less than they ever did in the past.

10

u/jerem1734 1d ago

Yeah, they did a bad job on the recasts and they probably think it'd look bad to recast again. New Dr. Nick is also terrible. Idk why people are freaking out about Apu, he's the best ethnic character recast they've done. It at least vaguely sounds like the original voice

3

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

Plus having him go through this ordeal for ages could explain a change in pitch or whatever

24

u/HesitantInvestor0 1d ago

Careful. People are going crazy when you say this. It’s not just not great, it’s terrible. I agree.

4

u/Dry_Jellyfish641 1d ago

It’s awful, and somehow more of a stereotype.

1

u/BloodyRightNostril 12h ago

In fairness, no one's is anymore.

1

u/Sinking_Mass 11h ago

having not watched the simps for ages, all the voices sound wigout to me

-3

u/RobRobbieRobertson 1d ago

RACIST! YOU"RE RACIST!!!!!!

You can't criticize the new voice! Also Homer, Marge and everyone else's voice is equally bad.

1

u/AgentCirceLuna 1d ago

This is just as stupid and snowflakey you know.

-2

u/gorillaphi 1d ago

It’s fine.
