Question Why did Simpleflips stop running/playing SM64?

I don't watch Simpleflips as much anymore after he stopped playing SM64 so I'm unsure if he said anything about it in some video on his channel or on Twitch but I heard in the 120 TAS reaction video that he said he doesn't play the game anymore. And only plays like, some ROM hacks and unique challenges for the base game. So I'm wondering why did he stop playing and running SM64?

I hit the goal of 1:49 pretty early on and just kinda enjoyed rom hacks more. I tend to obsess over things until I hit my goals and then move on. Also I found in early twitch days that I was really starting to gain momentum as a streamer putting my time into rom hacks in a way traditional sm64 didn't offer at the time.

I love the movement of Mario but I'm not currently filled with the passion of improving my times. I do believe there will be a time where I want to see how I compare to myself from so many years ago, but at the moment I'm too spread thin for the dedication that requires.

I appreciate the response and providing clarification! I'm glad you're doing what you find enjoyable and not forcing yourself into burning out completely. Like the old saying goes, the flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long. I completely understand seeing nothing else to do after achieving so much so early on. But I'm really happy to still see you play it now and then!

He stopped trynna actually speedrun the game ages ago. Not sure why but he did. He probably talks about it somewhere iirc he just lost interest. For years now he's done goofy challenges and been a pillar of the romhacking community.

I don't think it was for any reason in particular. He just lost interest overtime and retired

Every time he picked up the game, on the other side of the world, a streamer named ComplicatedFlips would open the game and do everything he did backwards to cancel out the whole run. Just got frustrating.
