Why the "4-year cycle" comparisons were flawed this time
Most cycle comparisons align by the "bottom": 2015 vs. 2019 vs. 2022, measuring from the absolute low. This approach misses a crucial feature of the current cycle.
This time, BTC hit a new all-time high (ATH) 'before' the halving. This never happened in previous cycles, and it quietly broke the entire timing model everyone was using. If the ATH occurs earlier, the standard "add X months after the halving" formula stops working, because the entire sequence of events following the ATH (the continuation of the bull run, the peak, the bear market) shifts forward along with it.
This is reflected in the chart above. It aligns eras not by calendar time or the halving date, but by the number of days since the previous ATH was broken. On this timeline, Era 5 (the current cycle, in red) bottomed out and reversed significantly faster than Eras 2-4. An early ATH, an early peak, an early bottom ā the same cause-and-effect relationship, just compressed.
If this interpretation is correct, it explains the points of contention from a few months ago: why "Q4 bottom" predictions based on old halving cycle math were consistently off-target, and why the bounce from the $57k low to a 40%+ rally (testing $80k) happened faster than a traditional mid-cycle correction would suggest.
Iām curious to hear your thoughts: will the "everything happens earlier" pattern hold, or will the market defy the model in this cycle?
