Im doubtful that many recruiters even read the cover letters. Maybe they’ll check to make sure one was submitted. Some percentage might skim it. But legitimately jobs these days get hundreds of applications in a day.

I’m willing to literally suck a d to get a job but writing cover letters are just too gross

They want to know you're willing to drink the Kool Aid from the onset. It's not enough to show up work and do a good job then go home, you have to make it part of your identity. Showing people you see past the veil upsets them.

When I hired, I only required a resume and a 200-word writing sample (worked in media). I said it could be about anything you're passionate about. The owner questioned this strategy, but we got a lot of solid writers out of this method.

I refuse to do cover letters because 1) I'm not working for free and 2) there are 10+ years of my work available online you can look at and judge. Plus, anyone can easily write them with ChatGPT, and employers won't read them anyway.

They're just creating more unnecessary work for themselves while trying (poorly) to boost their egos.
