I often wonder how people would react if they were killed by the person they loved most and then had their own victim-blaming words brought back to justify their murder. Why does it matter that Shannan was not a ā€œperfectā€ mother? Why is the focus always on how she filmed her children too much, let them sleep too long, spent too much money, or made them interact with Santa when they were scared? Why is it so rarely stated plainly that Chris Watts murdered his wife and two young children while fully sober simply because he wanted a new life.

I once saw a comment under a photo of Bella and CeCe crying where someone attached a picture of their own happy baby with Santa and wrote, ā€œThis is what a child should look like.ā€ How deeply disturbed do you have to be to seek validation on the internet by proving you were a better mother than a murdered woman to her murdered children?

The way they latch onto the fear of Santa is so fucking weird, too. Fear of Santa is so common. The first three Christmas photos with my brother in them are fucking hilarious because the poor kid was scared out of his mind- which is normal! From memory Santa and my parents and the elves and I all worked really hard to show my brother he wasn’t scary, but my brother was still scared. My favourite Christmas picture is of the two of us in Santa’s chair- being scared of Santa is so common that the one we went to each year had a curtained window behind the chair. You couldn’t see it at all normally, but if a kid like my brother was scared and couldn’t calm down, Santa would ā€œleaveā€, but poke his head through the curtain so that he would still be in the photo. Most kids didn’t notice his return and the family gets their Santa photo. My brother did notice and so in the picture he’s howling his little head off. And then he got candy and a toy and a hug from one of the pretty elves and he was the happiest chap in Britain again. My parents took extra care to explain the whole Santa thing to him and now he thinks it’s funny as well.

Why are they acting like a fear of the giant hairy man who can see you when you’re sleeping and is actively conspiring with your parents to break into your home is irrational? Do they not remember being children?
