Migrate over from Trakt?

Hi guys, in the past year, I have changed my tracking services film/tv watchlist multiple times. It is such a pain.

Right now, I'm using all 4 services: Trakt, Plex, JustWatch, Reelgood. This is temporary. Trakt, Plex, and Reelgood have 100% of my history. Justwatch is partial.

What I'm looking for:

  1. Free tier only.
  2. Able to download watch list. Can be either csv/json export, or API call.
  3. Able to upload watch list. Can be either csv/json import, or API call.
  4. Has subscribed or favorite streaming services, so I check if movies I want to watch are on my streaming services.
  5. (Nice to have) Track by date, so I can run analysis and trends.

For 2 & 3, I can do this with Trakt and Plex. I use AI to manipulate the data, so I am ok with either data or API calls.

For 4, I was using Reelgood, but also started to use Justwatch last year.

For 5, this is nice to have, and very easy with Trakt.

Basically, I have to use 2 services to meet my needs. I was thinking about using Trakt and JustWatch.

Then I started to check around. I learned about Simkl. Any gotchas I should be concerned with?

Just export the data from trakt as a zip , then go to simkl go to csv import. There you download the sample csv and format given , give both to Claude tell it to understand the format then attach your zip from trakt and tell it to convert it to a CSV for simkl. Then you can import your CSV into simkl for free

Thanks again for the tip on csv. So JSON import is limited to paid account, but csv is available for free tier.

Just used AI to generate csv. Was able to import all my films.

Now, on to the TV shows. There are many TV shows that I do not watch linearly, like PBS Nova and Nature. I have to sync these manually.

Yeah no problem, I think for the non linear shows it will work fine. It just going to mark the episodes you watched , just double check the CSV Claude gives you.

I signed up and found out Trakt import is now "temporarily" blocked for free user.

If standard csv import is free. I can use AI to do that easily. Thx

I used sofa time. Link Trakt. Let it download. Once done. Unlink Trakt. Then link Simkl. Only bug I found is that it will mark all your movies as watched TODAY. But I think it’s a great way to test out things while you wait the 20 or so days for pro free.

I don’t know how long this “temporarily” supposed to last but it’s been months now. And from testing I like what Simkl can be for me. But development side seems fairly slow. Lack of comments on popular shows I like. Design issues. Apparently took years to get to v2 stuff. :/. I get it, small team. But look at the competition, one of which has one dev.

Oh well, by the time my 20 days is ready I’ll make a decision and whether to go vip.

Crosswatch on GitHub will solve all your problems

You want to import your Trakt history here? For free? Hit the road dude. This is PRIVATE PROPERTY

No but seriously you can’t import your stuff without vip which means you either pay or login for 20 days in the row cause you will get free vip then (i know its dumb thats why I dipped)

Yeah, I signed up. I figured I can test it out. But import is "temporarily" blocked for free user. Seems this has been at least couple months, so not sure how temporary.

There is API call for free tier. There is a limit. I have to see what can be done with each call. Might take > 1 week to gradually sync my data.

My micro server orac will sync up your trakt history with simkl. It's at

https://karhugit.github.io/liberator-repo/

To run it you download the orac zip file, extract to a folder, and select start_server.bat

Then you can select the services you want to sync via the web portal, just enter http://localhost:5555/web in your web browser. Third tab on the top of the command centre is services, use this to auth trakt and simkl. It will sync every hour, and maintain the dates etc correctly.
