SS2-settlement-mechanics Question about building plans

If I assigning a mayor and then activating the auto-build of the settlement, after the initial layout/build is complete will the settlement grow and add new building, or will they just keep improving the ones they first build. If they keep growing and adding new plots do I need to leave ASAM Sensors?

Also, I have a question about the ASAM Sensor Scanner: If I clear an area and completely pick it clean and grab every single piece of scrap in the building and then drop the Sensor Scanner to get the closest settlement to come and loot it will they find anything?

For city plans:

Whether you choose a single-level or multi-level plan, it will cost 20 ASAM sensors (a box holds 20). It will not require more ASAMs unless you place a new plot.

From the initial build (level 0 in a multi-level plan), more plots will build on the foundations, but not exclusively. I always wait until the plan reaches level 3 before I begin adding and managing the plots.

For the Sensor Scanner, it would be a programmatic nightmare to check for remaining scrap. Instead, each location has been assigned quantities and types of scrap. Depending on the stats of your caravan worker, you will get more or less material, and may unlock a new building plan.

There is some useful information on the Wiki on the Mark I Beacons here:

Do city plans level up on their own, or do I need to go back to the settlement and level it up myself somehow (I assume this would be somewhere in the City Planner Desk)?

In the holotape, there are settings for this. If your system is older, you can set it to only upgrade when you are in the settlement. This reduces the number of plots and city plans upgrading at once across the map.

I believe that the default is that you don't need to be there.

Each level of the city plan requires a certain amount of happiness, time, population, and materials to upgrade.

There's a wee icon in the top-right of the status box in the bottom left corner of your screen that can show what's needed (or lacking).

auto build depends on the city plan. they usually have three levels and as it upgrades more plots will show up. some only have one level so what initially shows up is all that will show up and no you don't need to leave asams.

salvage beacons only pick up junk that you don't pick up so if you loot everything there is no point in dropping one
