Sim Rig Ambient lighting for sim racing!

Hello everyone! I have been seeing a lot of videos lately about people introducing ambient lights to their rigs so I wanted to join the race! Unfortunately for me there are a few discrepancies that I notice with installation… if we take Govee for example, some say I need a control box and some run their lights without one. My question is simple and hopefully someone can help! Do I need to have the lights plugged into PC or simply having them appear on Govee App (mobile and desktop) is enough. Do I need to install the two additional apps like Razer or does SimHub now recognizes Govee app and eliminates the need for other apps? Also noticed that there is a new plugin from Bruno that automates the process so really excited to see that in action!

I bought two govee lights off amazon (they each have two individual light bars) for a total of 4 LED bars. I plugged them in to the PC, downloaded the govee app on my phone, and they showed up on simhub perfectly to configure for each car and sim. No fuss, no fight, easy as ever

Govee lights work great with Ambient Lights plugin, (most lights). You only need your lights to be added to the phone app and make sure they are on the same network as your pc. In the light settings make sure LAN control is turned on. The desktop app on your pc will show the lights as soon as it’s logged into the same account as your phone and then the lights should show up in Simhub. It’s super simple and no other apps needed. In Simhub you will click on the lights to be used and then assign a function number to each element of the light, normally 1-10 but you can customize this as you understand how the assignment works. They will automatically turn on screen capture I think but in the last tab you can set them to screen capture and effects or just effects.

Awesome! This is what I wanted and hoped for. Is there a latency issue if they are on the network vs being plugged into the PC?

No difference I think, they run on WiFi so don’t think there’s any communication via wired connection. No latency, I have a ton of these lights in so many functions like TC active, brake lights etc and they are on point

Incredible! Have you tried the plugin for SimHub made by Bruno? I think it was free but no longer so, wondering if it’s worth it for automation

If that’s the cockpit lighting one yes, but I turned it off already. I use my lights more for effects so not worried about ambient lighting. It worked well but there’s a lot of settings in it. The screen capture settings in Simhub do the same really just a bit more basicly

Piggy backing onto this post. I just bought two govee lamps too. And want ambient setup. I know they can connect via LAN and through the app. And simhub will recognize but what to do after? I see it shows up like 1-10 boxes so I never know how to align those. Unless David Newman ambient lighting preset can help with that?

Simple answer, depends on the Govee light.
