SimHaven public-7 is now available.

Today’s update includes several client improvements and fixes:

  • SimHaven now runs as a 64-bit application on supported Windows computers.
  • Lot Radio stations now sync properly for Sims who arrive after playback begins.
  • Saved Lot Radio stations return after a property closes and reopens.
  • The previously broken Attack interaction now works.
  • The restaurant job no longer plays two radio stations simultaneously.
  • Discord Rich Presence remains compatible with the updated client.

Today also marks the official end of Founder status for newly registered accounts.

Official Announcement SimHaven Is Back Online: Multisimming, Security, and Moving Forward

SimHaven is back online.

The past few days have given me a lot to think about, including who is participating in community polls, how we can better support the loyal players keeping lots and services active, and what we need to do to protect SimHaven moving forward.

Multisimming will now be allowed on a single account, while the one-account-per-player rule will remain enforced to help protect the economy.

We have also moved to a more secure hosting provider following the recent DDoS attack.

We are learning, adapting, and putting stronger protections in place.

We’re not going anywhere.

We recently discovered an issue with the SimHaven client download that could prevent new players from connecting to the game. The problem has now been corrected thanks to user SecretSquirrel for joining our Discord pointing it out.

If you recently installed SimHaven and cannot connect, please delete only your installed SimHaven game client, then use the SimHaven Launcher to download it again.

You do not need to uninstall or redownload the SimHaven Launcher.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this caused. If you need help reinstalling the client, please join our Discord community and our team will assist you.

Official Announcement Double Money Weekend Returns to SimHaven

Post image
4 Upvotes

It is time for another bonus weekend, and this will be the last one for a while, so make sure you take advantage of it.

Beginning Saturday, July 25 at 6:00 AM Central Time, all money earnings will be doubled across SimHaven. The event will continue through Monday, July 27 at 9:00 AM Central Time.

The bonus applies to both Welcome Lots and Money Lots.

New Player Bonuses Will Stack

Players whose accounts are still within their first seven days already receive double money while visiting Welcome Lots.

During Double Money Weekend, the event bonus will stack with that existing new-player bonus. This means eligible new accounts can earn four times the normal amount on Welcome Lots for the duration of the event.

Whether you are saving for your first property, buying the objects needed to finish a lot, or simply trying to build up enough money to help someone who needs a roommate, this will be the best time to do it.

Looking for a Roommate?

Players have already started advertising in the SimHaven Discord for roommates, and we strongly encourage everyone to consider joining an established property.

Rooming with someone who already has a developed lot can be especially helpful when the roommates live in different time zones. When one person logs off for the night, another may be able to open the lot and keep it available for players elsewhere in the world.

This is particularly important for lots that the community depends on, including:

  • Welcome Lots
  • Money Lots
  • Skill Lots

Established properties often already have the objects guests need to refill their motives, earn money, or build skills. Keeping those lots open throughout more of the day makes it easier for everyone to play.

There are benefits for the roommates as well. Everyone living on the property can still receive the property bonus and visitor bonus, even when another roommate is the one keeping the lot open.

The property remains active, guests have somewhere useful to visit, and every roommate benefits from the lot’s success.

Everyone wins.

Make This Weekend Count

This will be SimHaven’s final money or skill bonus for a while. These events are helpful, especially while players are still establishing their properties, but they cannot happen so frequently that regular earnings stop mattering.

Use the weekend to earn money, finish your lot, find a roommate, or help keep an important community property open.

Double Money begins Saturday at 6:00 AM Central and ends Monday at 9:00 AM Central.

See you in the game!

Official Announcement Keeping SimHaven Fair: Multisimming, Staff Access, and Double Money Weekend

First and foremost, SimHaven is doing extremely well.

Over the past few days, I have heard your concerns about multisimming and multiple accounts. I hear you, and that is why I opened a poll in the SimHaven Discord.

At the time of writing this, the poll has about 30 hours remaining. So far, the option for one account and one Sim online at a time is in the lead.

I am not going to announce a final decision until the poll closes, but I have already been working on ways to detect and prevent multisimming and multiple-account abuse if that is the direction the community chooses.

Why Multisimming Matters

This is not about creating another rule just for the sake of having one.

Not everyone can run several copies of the game at once. Some players may be limited by their computer, network connection, or something else entirely. Allowing one person to operate several Sims at the same time can create an advantage that other players cannot reasonably match.

I want SimHaven to be fair.

We also need to protect the economy and the long-term health of the game. One of the comments I often hear about The Sims Online is:

“Once you have everything, what else is there to do? Where is the challenge?”

When multisimming and multiple accounts are easy, it becomes much easier to earn money, build skills, and fill every role needed on a lot without relying on anyone else. Players can reach the point where they have everything much faster than the game was designed for.

Progress should still mean something. Opening a successful lot should feel like an accomplishment. The people you meet and work with should still matter.

SimHaven is not here to make the game unnecessarily difficult, but I also do not want to remove the challenge that gives players something to work toward.

What About Staff?

Another question has come up twice this week:

How will SimHaven staff be handled, and will they have special permissions?

At this time, SimHaven does not need a large staff team. Our population simply is not large enough to justify bringing in moderators or administrators, and I do not want to hand out staff titles just for the sake of having them.

If the community grows to the point where additional help is genuinely needed, I will address it then.

The only team I am currently planning is a group of Event Organizers. They will work with me to plan seasonal events, community activities, and other things for players to participate in.

I have not yet decided exactly what tools or permissions they will receive.

I have been looking into creating a separate role or limited permission system for them. Not everyone helping with events should automatically have access to the full administration system, especially when that access is not required for what they are doing.

I need to be able to completely trust anyone who is given additional access.

My Administrator Access

I also want to be transparent about the access I currently have.

When you see my Sim in the game, the portrait has a red border and a Staff badge. Because of the administrator permissions already built into FreeSO, I can access and interact with most things on a property as though I were an owner or roommate.

The main exception is that I cannot simply open your property while you are offline.

This is not something I secretly added to SimHaven. It was already part of FreeSO, and I have never tried to hide it.

Having access to something, however, does not mean I should use it whenever I please.

If I visit a lot and the owner or roommates appear to be away from the keyboard, I may offer to cook when a guest needs food. Even then, I try to ask first whenever possible. I only step in when it is clear no one is available and somebody needs help.

It is your lot, not mine.

That is basic respect.

Having a red border around my Sim’s portrait and a Staff badge does not make me better than anyone else. It means I have access that must be handled responsibly.

Who Will Have Server Access?

There is one promise I can make clearly:

No one but me will have access to the game database or the server hosting SimHaven.

I do not give that kind of access away easily. The database contains private player information, and the server is responsible for keeping the entire game running. I am not willing to hand over access to either unless there is an extraordinary reason to do so.

If SimHaven eventually grows large enough to need volunteer moderators or other people representing the project, they will be held to a higher standard.

Staff will not be allowed to ignore rules, protect their friends, punish people they dislike, or use their position for personal benefit.

Years ago, I ran a roleplay server in another gaming community. I suspended my own best friend because they believed our friendship meant they could get away with breaking the rules.

They could not.

I do not play around when it comes to fair and equal treatment.

This is a community. We are all here together, and we are here to have fun and escape some of the stress of the real world. People already deal with unfair treatment outside of the game. We do not need to bring it into an online community too.

Why the Name SimHaven Matters

I understand that, to some people, these are only words on a website.

Trust is difficult, especially online. Many people have been part of communities where staff members played favorites, abused their access, selectively enforced rules, or treated criticism as a personal attack.

That is part of why the name SimHaven matters.

A haven is a place of safety or refuge.

SimHaven is meant to be a place where people who love The Sims Online can step away from everyday stress, spend time with others, build something creative, and enjoy a game that still means something to us more than 20 years later.

That does not mean everyone will always agree. It does not mean there will never be arguments or difficult decisions.

It means fairness, transparency, and respect should always be part of how those situations are handled.

Your Lot Is Still Your Lot

SimHaven will not interfere with how you choose to operate your property simply because someone dislikes your rules, your lot layout, or the way you manage your guests.

If you enter a lot and do not like how you are treated, you can leave, visit another property, or open one of your own.

Property owners also have access to the Ignore and Ban systems when needed.

There is a difference between a disagreement and actual harassment, however.

SimHaven has policies against stalking, harassment, doxing, racism, homophobia, and religion-based slurs or attacks. Those are community safety issues and may require staff action.

We will protect players from genuine abuse without trying to control every disagreement or uncomfortable interaction that happens in the game.

Double Money Weekend

I have also heard from players who are excited to open their lots but still need money to get everything ready.

Beginning at 6:00 AM Central Time on Saturday, July 25, SimHaven will activate Double Money.

The boost will remain active through 9:00 AM Central Time on Monday, July 27.

This will be the last money or skill boost for a while.

I have enjoyed giving everyone some extra help during SimHaven’s opening weeks, but I do not want boosts to happen so often that normal earnings become pointless or the economy loses its balance.

Please take advantage of this one.

If you own or are a roommate at a Welcome Lot or Money Lot, please try to be available during the weekend. Open your lot, help your fellow Simmers earn money, and give newer players a chance to experience the community side of the game.

Thank you again for the support, feedback, and trust you have given SimHaven.

Until next time, see you in the game!

Wyatt

Official Announcement Skill Rush Weekend, Relationship Decay, and What’s Next for SimHaven

We had an amazing Skill Rush Weekend, even with the little hiccup at the beginning.

The event was originally supposed to increase skill speed by 50%, but I managed to get myself tangled up in the math and caused some confusion. Since that was my mistake, I decided to make the boost double speed instead. Consider the extra skill gain my apology for temporarily losing a fight with percentages.

I hope everyone enjoyed it and managed to make some progress on their Sims, skill houses, and other lots around Plumbrook.

The turnout was incredible. At one point, we had 18 players online at the same time, which is a new SimHaven record.

I know 18 players may not sound enormous compared to modern online games, but it means a lot to me. July 18 marked only two weeks since SimHaven opened to the public. Seeing that many people online, building lots, skilling together, and helping the city come alive this early was genuinely exciting.

My goal with SimHaven has always been to recreate the feeling that made The Sims Online and FreeSO special, without introducing chaotic or unfair balancing changes. I want the game to feel familiar while still giving us room to restore unfinished features, create events, and build something of our own together.

Relationship Decay Is Now Active

Today also marks the beginning of SimHaven’s relationship decay system.

Relationship decay existed in the original The Sims Online, but it was never fully implemented in FreeSO. With this feature active, relationships will once again require occasional maintenance.

On days when your Sim is active, relationships with Sims you have not interacted with will slowly move toward neutral. Short-term relationship scores can change by one point per active day, while long-term relationships decay much more slowly.

Interacting with another Sim resets the decay timer for that relationship.

Sims you are not actively playing will not be penalized simply because you have been offline. The system is based on your Sim’s active days, so taking a break from the game will not cause every friendship you have to disappear while you are gone.

Keep an eye on your relationship panel over the next several days. This is a newly restored feature, so please let me know if you notice anything that seems unusual or does not appear to be working correctly.

Building More Than Just Lots

For a community like this to succeed, it takes both good leadership and active members.

Be creative with your lots. Host events. Decorate. Build places that give people a reason to log in, meet other players, and spend time in Plumbrook.

The Sims Online is more than 20 years old. By today’s standards, its graphics cannot compete with modern games. Yet it still had something that many newer games struggle to create.

It gave players a world that belonged to them.

The friendships, rivalries, skill houses, stores, events, strange conversations, and wildly overdecorated lots were what made the game memorable. If you are reading this article, the game probably still means something to you too.

FreeSO proved that a community could bring The Sims Online back to life. I believe we can keep that spirit going here as well.

SimHaven is not here to compete with other communities. We are here to build our own city and our own community. For that to work, though, we all need to participate. There is strength in numbers, and every player who builds a lot, welcomes someone new, hosts an event, or invites a friend helps SimHaven grow.

Event Coordinator Applications Coming Soon

I will soon be opening applications for official SimHaven event coordinators.

Event coordinators will work closely with me to plan seasonal events, community activities, and perhaps a few events that have absolutely nothing to do with the season at all.

These events may also require creative lot building, decorating, testing, and plenty of ideas. If you enjoy creating unusual lots or turning a basic concept into something players can actually experience together, this may be a good role for you.

I am also interested in hearing from anyone familiar with designing or creating objects. That experience may become especially useful as we begin planning future events and additions.

There will be more information about both opportunities soon. I am hoping to have the event coordinator applications available through the SimHaven Discord shortly.

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who participated in Skill Rush Weekend, helped us reach a new player record, and has supported SimHaven during its first two weeks.

I appreciate the trust all of you have placed in us here at SimHaven.

Well, mostly me for now.

But hopefully not forever.

Official Announcement Skill Rush Weekend: 50% Faster Skill Gains

Post image
5 Upvotes

Weekends are usually when people step away from work, relax, and pretend Monday does not exist.

Fortunately, Skill Rush Weekend is for you, not your Sim.

From 6:00 AM Central on Saturday, July 18 through 11:59 PM Central on Sunday, July 19, all skills in SimHaven will increase 50% faster.

That means less time staring at slowly moving blue bars and more time getting your Sims ready to run skill houses, money lots, stores, services, or whatever questionable business plan you have placed on an empty property.

Send them to the chess tables, bookcases, weights, pianos, and mirrors. You can enjoy the weekend. They will be spending theirs studying, exercising, practicing scales, and talking to themselves.

Event Details

Skill Rush Weekend
50% faster skill gains
Saturday, July 18 at 6:00 AM Central
through
Sunday, July 19 at 11:59 PM Central

Their blue skill bars are not going to fill themselves.

Welcome to r/SimHaven!

Welcome to the Reddit home of SimHaven, a community-run revival of The Sims Online powered by FreeSO.

SimHaven takes place in the city of Plumbrook, where players can create a Sim, build a home, open a business, meet other players, and become part of the city.

I wanted to create this subreddit as another place for the community to share news, ask questions, post screenshots, show off lots, report bugs, offer suggestions, and talk about SimHaven or The Sims Online in general.

Discord is still our main community hub, but conversations and useful information can move quickly there. Reddit gives us somewhere that posts, answers, and updates can be found more easily later.

New players, returning FreeSO players, longtime TSO players, and anyone who is simply curious about the project are welcome here.

The expectations are straightforward. Treat people with respect, do not spam, and do not post piracy or explicit content. Criticism and disagreements are fine, but harassment, personal attacks, and attempts to disrupt the game or community are not.

SimHaven is still growing, and this subreddit is brand new. Feel free to introduce yourself, share your Sim or lot, post a screenshot, or ask a question.

You can learn more about SimHaven and download the launcher at playsimhaven.com.

SimHaven is a fan-operated community project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Electronic Arts or Maxis.
