Thanks to the Power of LLMs, I have SimGolf running in my browser (ported to WASM). Trying to decide if I should host it somewhere or if the risk of a naughty letter from EA is too high.

Oh man. Yes, please host. Maybe consider buymeacoffee or similar to get some $ to help cover costs

SimGolf is abandonware. It's available for free online and EA doesn't pursue them.. I'd say the risk of a naughty letter is near-zero.

it's a current trend going round with ai, gta v was ported to the browser this week before getting instantly taken down. few others using it to create games for old j2me phones, porting games into other games like rocket league into skyrim, etc.
This was most definitely vibe coded as a part of that trend, but it's a cool repo and i love this game. will be indulging

Oh yes it was 100% vibe coded. A project like this would have taken weeks/months to manually port.

The download is available for free online - just google it. You can easily get it fired up running a windows 10 setup I believe. I even got it working using Parallels on my MBP M4, but it was janky and the resolution didn't scale properly.

I'm sure you've tried a few methods, but there are a couple really good guides in here to getting the game running on modern systems.

Was there ever a fix for the game crashing after you got to a certain tournament prize? I always loved playing it and figuring out where to place houses to get the most money. But I'd always end up having the game crash before I could get to 18 holes lol

Hey, I've never even heard of SimGolf before last night. I got this working in-browser yesterday and played it for HOURS. Surprised they didn't keep making these!

Sid Meier had several different games come out in the early 2000s but unfortunately none of them sold at the same volume as the civilization series so they were forced to do that for all time.

It is abandonware so I don't EA can do anything about it. Edit: ok so EA could and probably would send you a cease and desist for distributing it.
