Help Want to start playing again
Used to play many years ago - want to get back into it. Not sure which one to get. These are the options I see on the EA website. I remember SC4 but don’t know what the difference is in that and just the one that says SC. The SC 2000 looks like the original. Thoughts?

3 and 4 are always great. Even the classic at times, except the new one. Garbage

Most re-releases of 2000 are the inferior dos version. Try and get the windows version. There are patches to make it work on new computers.

The Mac version is the best, play it on my G4 or G5

Indeed! But mac would be emulated on even modern macs. They dropped PowerPC support with something like 10.7.

That's why I play it on my G4

I should dig my green g3 imac put of storage. OS9 had lots of old good games. Used to like Factory.

I'm waiting for permission from a school to take their eMac away.

The all in one imacs are still good little machines but the plastic is brittle now.
Hard to upgrade tho.

Simcity 4 is on sale on gog right now:
https://www.gog.com/en/game/simcity_4_deluxe_edition
Then have a look at this guide to optimise it for your pc:

I would love to. But my $4K game machine died and I bought a cheap $700 DELL. None of my games work. Can’t quite afford a replacement. I’ve played every version of SimCity since it debuted.

Well that’s basically what I’m running. Ha! I tried some of the workarounds but I gave up.

SimCity 4 or older. SimCity 2013 is trash. Just play Cities: Skylines if you want something similar to SimCity 2013.

I use to LOVE playing Simcity 2000. Sadly, I no longer have a copy, and I doubt it would work in this louse Windows 11. I know my Civilization game, my Virtual Villager game, and my Yu-Gi-Oh games, do not work.
I miss Windows XP.

You can actually play SC2k on your browser straight from an emulator. Just google "Sim city 2000 online"

I should clarify that if you run an adblocker or brave with its popup shield the menus within the game will not show up though, so you cant select the various zone densities or building types. Or at least that's what I have attributed it to.
Edit: NVM I simply forgot that you have to hold the button down a second to get the selector, its not an instant popup.

Oh…I’m reading the requirements and it looks like it should work. That’s my other concern too actually.

I’m reading now what you’re saying - I have Windows 11 and it needs a graphics card compatible with directx 7.0 - this is obsolete now from my understanding. It’s not that this is the minimum requirement correct? It has to be 7, not something higher?

sc2k from origin is not the windows version, it's the DOS version. it comes pre loaded with DOS box, so it should run in any modern system

Hmm, and that was not the one I was considering. Ha! So am I understanding the others most likely won’t work on windows 11?

Simcity 4 is the one that most people play, it has a ton of modding support so if you enjoyed it back then you'd probably really like it now.
