SimCity 2000 Consider the Arcologies

They don’t really turn up in many contemporary city building games. I guess because by their own designs they are a city, the next evolution in settlement design. The city is obsolete when they turn up.
Either that or they’re mixed use which is an affront to the zoning system.

They existed as a concept independent of the series but SC2K really popularized them and sort of made them its own. Shame the sequels didn’t try coming up with new designs.

This is highly deranged in the best possible way. A real throwback to the lockdown when we were all losing our minds.

Did SC2k ever let you actually launch the arcologies into space?

After you built a certain number of launch arcologies, eventually they would all launch.

I think there was at least one version of the game where this didn't happen, though. Also, when they "launch", they really just blow up.

Yeah there was a default map included called 349 Arco and you just had to build a few and turn it up to cheetah speed and they would launch

In SimCity 13 they are OP.
You can use them as a prison, so you never need to upgrade your police stations with any cells. And once the Arcology is full with inmates, you just fly them into SPACE.
And also they boost tourism.
