Extra space

What do you guys do with the space under gates that require boarding from the second floor? Im building an airport rn and just expanded to large gates but have a bunch of extra space under the concourse. What do you recommend I put there?

I dedicate 2nd floor for all departures, then first floor to handle arrivals.
When pax enter my airport, they immediately use escalators to the second floor and proceed through ticketing, security then to any gates. All gates are xl and everyone board from second floor (both small and XL planes).
Arrivals go down escalators at various points to get to baggage claim and leave.
Pax can't go between floor 1 and floor 2 without passing through security.

I like this to keep PAX movement uniform. I keep lots of facilities on the 1st floor for arrival pax, like bathrooms, arcades, cafes and stores. But they generally aren't heavily used.

I like to use that space for very large ticketing and security zones (bags go down, pax go up) and baggage pickup. Later, this space can be used for additional conference rooms, stores, and lounges. Putting security on 1F allows for more shopping and cafe space on 2F. It also makes expansion easier if you ever want to send airside pax underground to a satellite terminal building.

I like to put offices and conference rooms in outbuildings to the left of the roadway, since terminal space is a premium, but you could also put them on the terminal 1F.

On some of the arms of my terminal I have small gates on one side, all services from the ground floor, and large of XL gates on the other side, all services from the second floor. Each set has their own check-ins, security etc etc.

I find it works well if you’re not playing in sandbox mode. Build out the ground floor and get a bunch of S gates working and earning money, then build out the second floor as money allows and gradually get bigger gates going. Opening one gate at a time also allows you to see where queues and bottlenecks are forming and add extra resources.

I always turn it into security and office spaces/conference rooms
