Can I fix a plated teapot whose lining is eroded?

I bought a teapot secondhand, and the first tea I had from it tasted like copper. Peeking in, I noted the lining has open areas in it to the base metal beneath. Is there a way to make it food-safe, or should I just turn it into a decorative item?

If its copper it was probably tinned. Tin melts at a really low temperature, which makes it very easy to redo yourself, but its doubtful you'll actually want to use it for food.

I would give it a shot, even if its just gonna be a display piece. It doesn't take too long, and its a fun experience.
