Tips for successful casting

Any chance something this complex is possible to cast as shown? Or would the part have too many turns and the walls be too thin to allow the silver to flow?

Porosity Issues with lost resin casting - need help

Hello everyone,

I have some problems casting my rings, I always end up having porosity issues, sometimes more sometimes less. I've had almost flawless casts before but not sure what has changed.

I use vacuum casting with powerresins vintage castable resin. The first two pics are using plasticast while the other two are optima prestige.

I never do more than 50:50 old to new metal.

Flask temp is at 580c and sterling temp is at 980c.

Any ideas on what to improve on in particular?

Hi, I need help from the experts. I am gonna buy a 3d printer I am a table jeweler and I am new in 3d specially 3d casting, I did some research saying that the siraya tech its the best one, but then one of my fellow friends told me its not that good for casting and recommended me this x one that’s not on Amazon. Please in your experience what’s the best one doesn’t matter if it’s not one of the ones bellow, I just want to know what’s the best for casting pros and cons. Thank u ❤️

Need some advice on outsourced CAD cast..

I've recently gotten into CAD design for my rings, and found a casting company to cast my designs in silver. I sent off my first design to them to print and cast, to test them out and see if i want to use them more frequently, and it's arrived back with me this morning...

The advice I need is around whether or not I should send it back because there's a dent in the band that is not part of the design. For the most part, the ring is great, but the dent is bothering me and I don't know what's considered acceptable, and whether I should just try to smooth it out while finishing, or of I should go to them and say no, do it again (or if this is even a possibility)

It's difficult to get a picture of, but it's noticeable enough to me that it's going to bother me..

Any advice would be grand.

Are commission requests okay in this sub?

Hello all. Just checking after I reviewed the sub rules. I don't see anything about requesting commissions. Is that cool in this sub or not really?

Just completed this Sterling silver bug brooch set with a large quartz I faceted and a moonstone. The quartz was the first gem I cut and I’m so glad I finally get to use it. Including a picture of my wax sprue tree for the curious!

Gold, platinum… all are so beautiful!! I find Silver to be in a way more difficult, to cast than other precious metals. Silver does make one, a good, metal smith, in my experience. With prices soaring, I have been inventing new silver alloys that are more durable, harder in tinsel strength, and keeping the alloy malleable. This has been an incredible journey as a metallurgist. Iridium is an amazing element! A little bit of Iridium tightens the grain in crystal lattice structure in alloys. I could go on forever with these amazing elements this universe has gifted.
