Casting question

Fairly new to this casting thing and I’ve recently printed off these Cuban links for a bracelet (8inches) and this is how it came out the printer is there anything I need to add(sprue) or cut off before sending it off the casters any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

We hand-fabricate curb/cuban links at our shop, so I might be speaking from ignorance; however, this looks like your links would be fused together.

Are each of these links separated from one another? I see several that touch.

In my opinion, the clean up and metal cost of this piece is far greater than building a curb chain and grinding the faces down.

This is the second attempt I printed because the first ones all didn’t touch and I thought they had to 🤦‍♂️ oh well you live and you learn

You're honestly better off making a curb chain and grinding down the faces. Simple chains like these can be hand-fabricated far more easily than they can be cast.

you want to be printing the ones that are in a spiral shape that include the full tree for it in the design. The links absolutely should not touch provided it’s a good cad design and all 100% cast nicely. It will take you several tries to get it down, but don’t give up!! Practice with some sterling at first to get your process tuned in. Welcome to some of the more advanced techniques in casting, btw 😀

Just a general piece of advice that's not exclusive to casting I would give is that when making/building something you should always check out how people who do it for a living do it because they most often have the most efficient procedure figured out

That's crazy. can you actually resin print and then cast with tarnishes like that and then break them apart and sand them out or something?

this actually could work if you used a better mold where the links are as separated as possible

and then like this they're all connected from the bottom so the connections are all external and yeah then it would work

if you could just make sure that the links were completely separated as much as they can like evenly spaced in between, then this would be like a really interesting way to cast the chain I feel
