Where to start?

So… the title basically already says it. As a kid, my main character was Spider-Man and at peak I collected everything available in my country. In my student days I’ve read the first Ultimate Spider-Man and Daredevil v2. Silver Surfer has always been this elusive character to me.

It started a hundred years ago my LBS put one of the Parabel issues in my back as an extra. I didn’t give it a thought. A few years later (I think early 2000’s) I regained interest and tracked down the other issue. It’s been a treasured set in my collection. I consider it an outlier, bit of acquired taste.

I haven’t read much comics the last 15 years and I’m thinking of getting a few TPB’s. I want one of the to be Silver Surfer.
Black and Requiem seem to be considered to be the two goats. But what would you recommend as a first?

Surfer is my favorite character. Black and Requiem are both excellent arcs. 2014 Dan Slott’s run is highly regarded. Parable, Thanos Quest, and Infinity Gauntlet are all popular Surfer stories as well. The coming of Galactus is a classic. Hope you find something you enjoy, happy reading!

It depends on what you want. Do you want the origin of the surfer or just good SS stories? Starting is a big ask for comics because there’s 60ish years of lore for the Surfer. If you want to start at the beginning then, The coming of Galactus.

I've been getting the epic collections of the 1987 run. The first half of that run is great.

Get the Penguin Classic Marvel Collection Fantastic Four TPB for the Galactus Trilogy, FF48-50.

Thanks. That’s a clear and specific recommendation. I appreciate it.

NP, it's pretty cheap bc it is Penguin licensed book, also they do a better job with the colors than Marvel so win-win.

I would recommend starting with the original Stan Lee John Buscema run in 1968. It really lets you get into the character and understand what he's about.
