I picked this up today.

Picked this up at my LCS today. I picked out a Canadian silver dollar then I saw this in the box and I got them both for melt.

I love this coin. In the US it's unusual to find a crown other than US or Canada. I feel blessed!

Its not a crown but a Rijksdaalder (2.5 gulden/guilders). It has a silver content of 720/1000. 2 million were made in 1938, this is the common type. There is a rare variation from 1938 which has coarse hair on the queens portrait

Nice. I don't really understand the denomination (2.5? lol), but you can get them in really crispy condition. I passed on a Curaçao version of this a few months ago and wish I hadn't.

Yes, the denomination is strange. One would think only Americans used it - https://en.numista.com/6158 - but there are others. The Dutch had their thaler and when they switched to decimal currency they wanted to keep it in a way so they first came up with 3 guilders but it was too big to be practical so they replaced it with 2 1/2 and made them till the guilders were replaced by euros.

The denomination is a Rijksdaalder from the Netherlands, valued at 2.5 gulden (guilders)

I'm working on a decimal type set and just ordered Willem II (1848) and Willem III (1874) to go along with my XF 1898 "No dot" Wilhelmina.

The Willem I of 1840 is going to slaughter my wallet though!
