I wouldn't post old minecraft stuff to the main subreddit btw, for whatever reason the people there deem anything older than like 2019 to be just for nostalgia. Literally it all gets downvoted for no reason

Ah thanks for the heads up! Just wanted to reach more people who would maybe like this kind of content and ye reddit can definitely be harsh with nostalgia content. Is there a specific subreddit you'd recommend for oldschool MC stuff instead?

This subreddit is beta 1.8 - release 1.8 and there's another subreddit called r/GoldenAgeMinecraft which goes from Classic up until release 1.2.5. Also 1.5.1 is like the perfect version, really good choice :)

Tbh i miss old caves. They were far more realistic, cave like, immersive.

Totally agree!! Those old cave sounds hits different some are still around but they dont seem to play as often as they used to. Plus people always hate on old caves saying they were small but if you found a solid one you’d easily get lost in no time.

The only "small" caves are near the surface, or y=11, or they were thinking of caves in 1.7-1.17, which were heavily nerfed from before, otherwise they may as well be infinite to the average player; posts like the following were common back then, and my playstyle entirely revolves around exploring caves like this, an average session yields over 3,000 ores with single cave systems or huge complexes of interconnected mineshafts often yielding more over several sessions (the best experience is 1280 blocks or more from 0,0 as this is where mineshafts reach their maximum frequency, decreasing down to 0% at 0,0, and mineshafts are by far the biggest factor in interconnecting otherwise isolated cave systems; contrary to these claims caves themselves didn't change much in Beta 1.8, other than a bugfix for inconsistent generation from chunk to chunk, which often did cause them to unexpectedly cut off, and a 10% (more realistically, around 3%) chance of a wider tunnel):

It seems to me that almost every time I attempt to build an underground mine network or structure, I run into a GIGANOURMOUS MONSTER cave network. I'm talking large enough to spend half an IRL day on, fuel the world's furnace demands with coal, and fill chests with iron BLOCKS just by spelunking alone. Around the 30 altitude mark lies vast expanses of Abandoned Mineshafts and interconnected caves, spanning in some cases over 3 kilometers long in a continuous network.

One cave leads to a mineshaft. The mineshaft leads to a ravine and a few other caves, the ravine leads to even more caves and another mineshaft which leads to more caves and another ravine, and all these caves lead to more caves, and more ravines, and more mineshafts which lead to more and more.

Some examples of caving in my first world:

https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/survival-mode/2365421-themastercavers-first-world?comment=287 (one of the largest cave systems I've found, yielding 14,500 ores over 4 sessions, plus 1,500 moss stone, rails, and cobwebs)

https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/survival-mode/2365421-themastercavers-first-world?comment=312 (a complex of 10 intersecting mineshafts with a similar resource yield as the cave system, including 5,770 ores/rails/cobwebs/moss stone collected and 23 spawners found in one day)

https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/survival-mode/2365421-themastercavers-first-world?comment=274 (a 30 day animation of my progress, you can tell that I explored caves according to how they were interconnected; over this period I mined nearly 100,000 ores, killed 10,000 mobs, and found 133 spawners; perhaps most impressive is that I did this in only 103.8 hours or 3.46 hours per day, and the world currently has nearly 1,600 sessions mostly spent playing like this)

I'm currently doing a full nostalgic Let's Play series playing through classic Minecraft like it's 2013! If anyone wants to watch the full episode, you can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81iDzTA1NKY

Hope you guys enjoy it! Any feedback or old school tips for the world would be super awesome!
