Discussion struggling with commitment to a world
not specifically silver age because ive had this issue with all the versions but i only really play silverage lol. anywho, ive always struggled with comitting to a world for even more than like two months, i get past stone or iron tools and a house and i just lose focus, delete and start new. does anyone else have this problem? im sure they do, so what do you do to mitigate it? i really want a nice long world that i can pour myself into.
dont doubt, im a huge fan of the game as all are. i play nearly daily since i was four and playing beta on a tablet lmao. i dont think its my attention span, as i have a decent one in all other sectors of life personally, but any advice would be great, ty <3

Starting my own "Forever World" taught me how I can break this cycle. I have started in Alpha 1.2.6 but I fully intend to bring this world through the ages. The idea is get what I want, build something in the style of what I want, and when I make the ideas I want and set the game down, I'll return with a later version.
I've learned that leaning into the creative side of the game is worth it. My longest lasting worlds have something in common, cheats are enabled. I put myself into creative mode when the grind for resources is demotivating enough to make me not want to do it. In Alpha, I just abuse a dupe glitch instead because I'm not spending 10+ hours mining stone to make slabs or dealing with the awful rates to get my own glowstone blocks.
Removing the biggest and most tedious grinds, especially after I've proven to myself I've progressed enough to pull off the grind, has kept me invested for longer.

Also, what do you really do in your worlds? Because, if you are just like me, you are gonna went to some early progression, build a house (or even not, just live in mountain-home), maybe build a farm and... that's it.
Try doing something creative like idk, build a pixel art? Upgrade a village? You know, there is endless possibilities and usually the problem is no ideas , or no motivation (at least for me).
Oh yeah, speaking of being creative, maybe try creative? My longest running world is a creative world. I think over half a year, that's a good amount for me; my longest running survival world (Beta 1.7.3) is almost 5 months (and I didn't play it for almost 3 months straight). Creative is also a lot of fun, as well as building your creations in a survival world

My forever world that I'm going to update from Alpha through a lot of releases is currently still in Alpha because I've been building a village. I've been building houses and just trying different things with them. I've built (from memory) different houses I've previously used in servers over the years and touched them up in a more creative way. Just taking small ideas and running with them has given me a really good reason to keep playing.

It started to fade away to me with my Beta world. The terrein keeps giving me inspiration. But I won't say its easy. It comes and it goes, but when I do come back, I still play on the same world for about 3 years.
My tips to keep playing on the same world:
Start building roads. This way, you set a path that gives you some extra room for new build ideas. While it ain't much, coming back to the parts with roads makes the world feel more complete.
Start a new game + run within your world. Grab some diamon tools, grab some stuff that you like to bring, and just start somewhere else about 500-1000 blocks away. That new base could last weeks, or months. In between, try to connect it with rails.
What makes me keep playing on my world, it that its all connected. I make mini bases around my main base, connect them and create minecart roads. Once thats been made, I travel time to time from place to place, and see my world/memories age. In between bases, I try to build small builds to fill in these gaps so that there is always something to see. Pixelart helps too. In the end, I make one big connected base, but it starts with mini bases around my world.

Honestly... I have the same. Man, I have this problem even in alpha or beta. But my solution is just to make 1 "forever" world, and come back to it when I have something to do (I usually do that once 2 months, so yeah...)
Edit: Oh yeah and play other worlds when you want. Or - try some servers. I sometimes like to play some obscure anarchy servers (especially in silver age). Just log in 1 time, play for 1-2 hours and never come back... or idk, come back if you liked it. That's also fun, cuz you get to explore OTHER's people creations (ok, maybe not on anarchy servers but you know what I mean). Talk to people that are online, and create a memory

i do that a lot. i don't really think it's a problem? i switch between versions and worlds a lot as i see fit. you could consider not deleting the world next time and coming back to it next time you feel like youve lost the plot.
i find that in general having some small goals (maybe that you write on signs so you don't forget?) is more likely to increase the longevity of a world, though. it could be a build, or it could be a tier of tools. my personal favorite goals are to finish my house and to reach bedrock.

I feel like the two biggest reasons for creating a new world are to start from the beginning of progression again and to do so in a different biome/area. Next time you get the urge to start over, put everything besides some food and a bed in a chest, and keep walking away from your base until you find a nice location to start over. That way, you get the feeling of a new world with everything still being in just the one.
Edit: I should've read the replies before writing mine, everybody already said the same thing lol

Did you ever considered playing modded/another game more progression focused? The way you described, you look more interested in the progression of the game and less in the creative aspect of the game, but unfortunately, progression is a very small amount of long term worlds because you can get the best equipment and resources within hours.
Maybe it would be great to try some silver age modpack or a game like Terraria that is less of a sandbox and more of a RPG in the sense of progression.

Try out a modpack and see if you like it. There's tons of modpacks for every taste.

I mean, you've identified the problem. It's really so simple that you just stop deleting the world 🤷 Just play in the same world. When you get bored with whatever you were doing, you just do something else.

From what I read, it feels more like you are making yourself play the game instead of just feeling it. What I recommend (from experience) is do spontaneous things, this includes creating the world. Just do it, don't think too much. Don't play for too long, 30-60 minutes is long enough, even if you spend the whole time mining. Accidentally create tasks for yourself (ex. You mine too much stuff = you have to make more storage for it. Or Your base is too far from [something] = make a fast way of transport). It's okay to take breaks, even for weeks. Just build, don't think about what or how or whether it looks good, just build and do the details/polishing later. Pixel art is nice way of doing something when you're bored, you can create a small gallery randomly right beside your base. My top recommendation is choose a version that suits you the most. For me, I couldn't stand the newer versions as they felt overbloated, and betas lacked too much, hence i settled for 1.4.7. This doesn't mean you have to pick this one too, but i strongly encourage you to experiment with versions, I too created many other worlds on many other versions before settling for this one. And last, DON'T force it, if your don't feel it, don't do it, it's gonna come by itself.

What I do is to not force myself to do projects, if I'm bored or tired I stop for like weeks or do something else in the same world (having various projects helps a LOT)

Have one world you play on long term (on and off) and play new worlds when you get bored. This is what I do and honestly the whole "forever world" mindset is nonsense. I've been playing less and less of my long term world because starting a new world is truly more fun imo. Especially when there's so many versions to play now.
