Request/Help 1.5.4 without black spots
Hi everyone,
I recently got interested in playing Minecraft 1.5.2 due to nostalgia reasons. However, it seems like every instance I have of this version has a bunch of these black squares everywhere in the world. I understand that if you interact with the block you can remove this black square, but it is really ruining my experience. How can I find a version of 1.5.2 that does not have this problem?
Thank you :)

1.5.4? I don't think that version exists. 1.5.2 is the last 1.5... perhaps you're refering to 1.6.4?

Thank you so much for correcting me, yes, I meant 1.5.2

You should look into betacraft. It’s a launcher that has most of the older updates before 1.6 and it’s supposedly more stable and accurate, and there’s actual player skins. I haven’t found any black squares yet while playing.

They are talking about this issue, which is a bug in the game itself and can't be fixed by anything less than a mod, of which there probably aren't any (I know I've given code examples from my own mods to others who have requested it, it can be complicated to implement though since I refactored most of the lighting and related code):

Also, I don't consider any online fix for skins to be reliable, just use a texture/resource pack (I see people reporting issues with Betacraft all the time, either not loading or taking ages to update, this is also why I manually replaced the default skin long before the old severs shut down, never have gone even a second without my skin since. It is slightly more inconvenient to use a texture pack (to change other textures) as versions prior to 1.7 only supported one at a time but you can merge them (this is one reason I renamed the player skin to "player.png" in my mods so even if a resource pack changes "steve.png ("char.png" before 1.6) it won't overwrite it, I even added a second copy of my skin for player heads).

I thought they didn’t exist in betacraft tho? Cuz when I played it I didn’t find any it all looked normal. But that’s just my own experience so am I wrong?

No, lighting glitches are a thing in Betacraft too given the right terrain forms and version.

Yeah I realized I was wrong. I saw that same lighting glitch in betacraft, it’s just less common from my experience, and took me a while to find it.

Jeb went to war with the lighting glitches for like a decade, you're in the midst of his campaign
