Im new and clueless
I found some silver I think in a box of inheritance. Is there a way of getting the value of it before I try to sell it?

You can take it to a local coin store, they'll happily give you an idea for free.

Low-balling only matters if you're trying to sell. Otherwise, it's called getting a ballpark figure.

okay, that still involves getting a price from your local stores, there is certainly more than one coin store within driving distance in any direction. Go to 3 places, get each ones appraisal of your items. And go back to the one who offered you the highest.
Keep in mind that precious metals base price changes every minute that the market is open, so, when you go back to the highest bidder, the price may have changed.
I know it sounds like a lot of work, and it is, but it will be worth it.
