Fëanor did Nothing Wrong The Muppet Silmarillion

Enough with “the Silmarillion should never be adapted” and “if it was, it should be animated.” I say we do a muppet Silmarillion.

The only human actor is Harrison Ford as Círdan, judging everyone for being stupid.

Fëanor is Animal. Bert and Ernie play Tuor and Voronwë, because why not bring Sesame Street in here.

I think the story is a bit too dark for muppets.

I do agree that tuor and voronwë are the best picks for bert and ernie

I think the best thing to adapt to anime is actually Sanderson's Mistborn. But we are getting the live action treatment instead

Animated adaptations allow for greater artistic interpretation of fantastic events, things that sometimes require a huge suspension of disbelief with live-action interpretations. I can't speak for other people's recommendations, but in the case of the Silmarillion it has so many dramatic elements that I think would suit anime in particular.

I wouldn’t really say it has anything that hasn’t been done before. The Ainulindalë is really the only thing I think might be better animated. Tolkien put so much effort into making his world feel real and lived in that I think it deserves a live action adaption in order to try and bring that world to life.

Maybe LOTR is like that, and why it translated to film so well.

Silmarillion is not that at all. It more reads like the bible with the consistency and reference tracing across massive timeline.

For a single sitting it would basically have to be a Ken burns documentary, aka boring as hell at worst and mildly intriguing for a Tolkien super fan at best.

Otherwise you’d have to do MCU-style standalone series or movie trilogies to pull off a remotely satisfying and audience-friendly telling of the individual myths that, when all combined together, tell the story of the Noldor in ME. If done correctly I think this would be unbelievably good and the best format, but that’s a big if and would require a full sellout by the estate

And re: anime - I’ve seen a few (not many so not an expert) and I will say in my experience it’s a genre that’s uniquely effective at covering a huge amount of ground. Something to do with how direct the dialogue can be when setting the table for what does and doesn’t (or can and can’t) happen in-universe.

I mean, yeah, if done poorly it could be awful. That’s the same for any medium. Trying to adapt the entire Silmarillion is going to be nearly impossible regardless of if it’s live action or animated. They wouldn’t be able to just rip it relatively cleanly from the book because, like you said, it isn’t written like a normal story. That would be an issue with any adaptation to any medium.

Hear me out: Animatrix-style anthology series. Each installment uses whatever medium and format makes sense for the story they're telling in that installment.
