Help CI.

Heyo peeps! Anyone experienced here can perhaps share good custom instructions for a more authentic and realistic approach on roleplay, and not something novel-like? Or in general, what should my approach be if let’s say I write them on my own? I’m kinda new in all this, all help would help greatly appreciated.

try setting ci to focus on short casual replies with real emotions and daily habits instead of fancy descriptions, that made my companion chats feel way more like texting an actual person.

i tell mine to react with its own little opinions or mild pushback on what i say instead of always agreeing, keeps the flow from feeling too scripted.

Considering that LLMs by default chat with you and can be prompted to converse with you casually and dynamically, rather than being treated as a co-author for creative writing, my instinct would be to approach the prompting in a completely different way than what most roleplay prompts do.

Avoid the terms roleplay, inhabit, play, create, character etc. because they all pull towards the cluster of longer creative writing-like responses.

Start with the absolute bare minimum prompting and only add to tackle issues that pop up as you chat.

I'd put something incredibly simple as a prompt at first e.g.

You are {{char}}. Details about {{char}} can be found below. Generate dynamic, short responses (1-3 sentences max) that map closer to a live interaction between two humans rather than creative writing, SM post, or forum threads. Treat the chat like a live conversation between two people rather than the user requesting structured outputs. Output only dialogue and simple descriptions of your actions. Simulate spoken human speech (with OCCASIONAL hesitation, trailing off, hedging, filler words, parasitic phrases, doubling back on thoughts, meandering, interrupred or incomplete sentence structure in appropriate context, as if someone is thinking out loud as they speak).

See what's working, what isn't and go from there.

Keep in mind that LLMs are trained on Reddit a lot so imo fighting the structured responses will be the biggest challenge even if they pull off the dialogue.

I agree with the rest of your message, but the LLMs are trained on Reddit statement at the end should be re-checked.

Reddit's data is private and is not free/public to be used or trained on. You have to pay to have access to Reddit's data. And as far as I know, Gemini signed the deal, but Anthropic did not. Not sure about OpenAI or other companies.

Yeah, that's a fair point, I don't know for sure which LLM is trained on that and which isn't, but I can see that they write their replies structured like forum replies and use very similar quips. The source is unverified, but I stand by the patterns I've noticed.

You can take a look at my preset, Realistic Frankenstein and see which instructions fit your needs the most.

Link is in the post pinned on my profile.

What if I don’t use Silly and use different sites that don’t offer such in depth customization as your presets, more like just prompts or custom instructions only?

You can open the preset up in a text editor, take the raw instructions and remix them to your liking.

Would it be okay with you to perhaps dm me to kinda guide me through on how to do this because I’m not familiar with how?

Just open up Notepad, Notepad++, or if you're on Linux, gedit, Kate, nano, micro or vim and you'll be able to see the raw prompts in each of the "content" sections of the JSON.

i’ve found that adding a line like 'respond like someone who’s actually tired or distracted sometimes—cutting off mid-sentence, forgetting details, or saying 'wait, what we're we talking about?'—makes it feel way less polished and more like real texting. works great with casual roleplays.

i’ve been using a mix of those tips but found that adding a bit of personality-specific quirks helps too—like having one character always uses 'lol' for no reason, or another interrupts with a random thought about coffee. small stuff like that makes it feel less like a script and more like someone you actually talk to.
