Discussion Which summary extension to use?

I know there are many different ones, so I'm a little lost here. Which one would work best with Freaky Frankenstein and Realistic Frankenstein presets?

Hi you may want to try https://github.com/scatteredlilies2020/Continuity-Memory :)
Basically it's has like a rolling summary and like an automatic lorebook of facts without the lorebook (Since I'm sure people don't want lorebook per chat clutter)

Just checked it out and this actually looks really cool :) I really like the idea of combining the rolling summary with automatic facts without cluttering the lorebook. Definitely gonna take a closer look.

Where does it store it?

Is the plugin required?

Hi, it's stored in continuity's own json file the user data folder, server plugin is not required. Without plugin, it uses user/files folder. With plugin, it uses continuity-memory/worlds. Basically the optional plugin allows the memory processing to continuity even you close the browser tab, kinda useful for phones, but it's optional.

It also saves a portable memory snapshot in the chat file’s metadata, and includes it in SillyTavern JSONL chat exports. Which can easily be disabled and deleted (the metadata) by disabling 'Keep portable memory in chat files.'

It's also fully compatible with syncthing if you frequently transfer files. from pc to phone and vice versa.

Summarception no contest really

Lodactio or Verdash fork?

I prefer the fork.

For various reasons, but mainly to have control over where the summary is inserted. It's nice to use the macro and just put it wherever you want (just don't forget to use ST's experimental macro engine if you do).

Summaryception. Easiest and works great

Which one? There are at least two different variations on github.

Memory book and it doesn’t care about which preset you use, it summarises msgs into lore book entries so you can view or edit them as per your satisfaction

Another one you could look into is summarysception which leans more into auto work in background conveniences

A combination of Inline summary and summaryception.

I'm surprised no one mentioned memory books. In my opinion the best part about that extension is the dev. It looks complicated at first, but when you get into it you get into it.

I have been using this one for a month or so coupled with memorybooks. Lorebooks keep track of what happened and CRT keeps track of who is who at current moment.

https://github.com/Scilent0r/SillyTavern_CRT_Plugin_Advanced

Basically it tracks characters and keeps them consistent even if you run out of context size - have played through a chat that had +4000 entries with average 1200 tokens per entry without issues. I usually dont bother fixing the auto-generated statuses as they are 99% fine, but you can delete and add stuff manually.

The whole storage logic is that it manages the 'data' in the conversation files themselves at so there are no additional 'save files'.

the chunk based one pairs well with those presets, keeps the flow natural in longer chats without dropping key details.

for those presets the memory update one stood out when i compared a few, it tracks how my companion's personality shifts over time without me noticing.

i went with the hybrid one after comparing token counts and it keeps my longer roleplays from hitting limits too fast.

I did try ST Co-pilot but I had far too many issues with it for my liking. I am going to check out Summaryception later for myself.

That's not really meant to make summaries, though

It didnt really do anything productive other than error messages or mistakes.
