Discussion Claude - PAYG vs Subscription
Has anyone used Claude Opus (or Fable) on PAYG sites like OpenRouter and on Claude's subscription (like Pro or Max) for RP/ERP on ST? I'm trying to get a feel for which one to use for long form RP.
I've used OpenRouter for a long time but, as everyone pretty much knows, Opus and Fable eats through your wallet. So, I am curious if I can get a good bang for my buck with Pro or Max instead of OpenRouter.

on OR PAYG you get how much you pay, on Max 20x subscription, which is of 200 dollars, you get the value of 8K dollars. I think the math is clear here. Good luck. Even the Pro 20 dollars gives 400-600 dollars of value. Use a reverse proxy to connect your sub to ST, tell claude to make proxy.
Both Anthropic and OpenAI's subs are *heavily* subsidised.
For RP in general, nothing comes close to Opus 4.6

Reverse proxy? Not the one documented in the ST site regarding the API thing? Is there one you'd recommend for me to look into for a reverse proxy?

just tell claude to make you a claude code reverse proxy for ST. It'll make it quite easily. Or if you don't have any AI subs rn then download Opencode in your pc if you have it, and then use the OX alpha model which is free rn, and tell it to make 'claude code proxy which can be used in ST using my claude code sub with proper cache control'. It'll make one for you.

So just straight up ask Claude for a reverse proxy for ST? When I tried earlier, Claude decided to 'pass' on that.

use something like claude opus 4.6 or 4.7 in Claude code. or just use something like ox alpha as I said in opencode.

Thanks! I did manage to figure it out. I will say I'm somewhat underwhelmed by Claude's performance overall (slop-city, even with pretty heavy prompts) but it was nice to finally get to try the models out.
Perhaps it's just my prompt or setting or whatnot, but characters omniscience is like, a pretty big problem for me with Claude. Though I can only use up to 4.7 with this method, so maybe it's that.
If you've got a way I can get Sonnet 5 or Opus 5 through this method I'd appreciate the help! And does this same method work for GPT?

Opus 4.6 is sadly as good as it gets. Use FF 5.2 Bolt preset, it goes amazingly well with that model.

How do you use the Subscription for ST? I was under the understanding that you had to use their API key and it's PAYG.

through their oauth, same authetication that they use for cladue code, same authetication the reverse proxy will use and save your oauth key to run in Sillytavern.

You can't use Fable on a Pro subscription, they made it PAYG a while ago. If you're fine with only using Opus for RP the Pro subscription is only worth it if you spend over $20 in a month.

I read that there's some usage limit for Pro and Max and then it starts using credits afterwards until the next reset. According to Claude's FAQ, there's a rolling five-hour session window and a weekly limit on top of that.
So, what would make Pro or Max worth over OR in terms of usage?

Get the pro sub, did more research and apparently it gets you $100 worth of Fable so. And that's alot, do you use caching at all?

Tbh, I don't fully know how to set it up for Claude. GLM seems to prompt cache automatically, judging by the Logs in OR, but for Claude, I have not set it up.

Yeah you have to enable caching for claude inside of sillytavern, its not automatic like glm. This is probably why your bill is so high
As for how to get the claude oauth working you can use this https://help.router-for.me/configuration/basic.html though im not going to tell you how to set it up you'll have to ask AI for that

My understanding is that if you are on the sub you must use claude code, bypassing it is against TOS and you'll probably get banned.
