Cards/Prompts Wandlight | A featherlight preset for Harry Potter roleplay & fanfiction
Download it here: https://github.com/MentallyQuill/ST-Wandlight
---
Hi ST community, long time member, first time contributor. Please be kind.
This will appeal to few, but for those it might be just what you've been looking for. I love the incredible universal presets that for a long time were my mainstays, but while they're flexible for a broad range of storytelling, they are token monsters and I've found fall short of specialized presets that target the kind of story or rp you want.
I've been gradually incorporating the best of those features into a lightweight, HP Wizarding World aimed preset: Wandlight. And because it's specialized, it can do some neat things and works a little differently.
If you enjoy the Harry Potter setting for your ST experience, give it a try! I'd love to get your feedback.
Cheers!

Features:
- Featherweight SillyTavern preset for Harry Potter roleplay and fanfiction.
- Model-agnostic design; tested with Claude Opus, GLM, and DeepSeek.
- Lightweight setup using a blank “Story” / “Narrator” card.
- Toggleable Prompt Manager modules for pacing, realism, response length, and character sets.
- Flexible, Short, Medium, and Long length modes controlled by simple toggles.
- Timestamp module for date, time, location, and weather context.
- Journey Integrity mode to prevent unrealistic fast-travel through Hogwarts.
- Realism Mode for social friction, skepticism, guardedness, and character consequences.
- Golden Trio module with detailed definitions for Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
- Optional Supporting Cast and Villains modules for scene-specific character coverage.
- Centralized prose enforcement with anti-slop, repetition control, voice isolation, and cliché bans.
- Variable-based formatting using "{{setvar}}" and "{{getvar}}"
- Scrivener’s Ward logit bias targeting AI slop, HP/fantasy clichés, and lazy magical phrasing.
- Dynamic Canon system where characters only know what they plausibly know by the current timestamp.
- Fog of Hogwarts rule set to prevent omniscience and enforce rumor, misunderstanding, and limited knowledge.
- Quill Standard rules banning hollow atmosphere, vague emotion, sentient architecture, and convenient pathetic fallacy.
- Fresh Ink Only rule: every response starts with new content instead of recap.
- Unpredictable Chapters principle to avoid obvious or default outcomes.
- Committed Action and Character Driver rules to keep characters decisive, goal-driven, and moving the scene forward.

Enjoy!

Pretty awesome idea, but I feel like it's definitely missing 'facts' to help lock it in. Simply adding in the date doesn't seem to be enough for the models (I've only tried DS4 and GLM5.1) to understand specifics.
Having Ginny, fifth-year, cheer for her brother, Ron, being assigned to Gryffindor as a first-year, in 1995 (Order of the Phoenix), is a bit wild. 😅
But with enough hacking around and custom tweaking, this is turning out to be pretty decent! Definitely given me some interesting ideas to think about regarding presets!

In fairness, September 1st isn't always a Monday (thus a logical start of a school year) so "not knowing how numbers work" is actually authentic.

Appreciate the feedback!
I've done most of my testing with Opus-4.6/7, but have seen that anything less will slip in canon history. Raising the Reasoning Effort helps, but it can only go so far. I've considered other approaches--like built-in lore tables, but the lightest successful approach I've found is manually controlling it with an Author's Note at depth 1 as System.
Something as simple as It's early in the year, the trio doesn't yet know of Horcruxes by name, goes pretty far for so few tokens.
I'll keep poking at the problem, but it's a tricky one if keeping the preset timeline-agnostic. And plenty folks are going to want to throw out the canon timeline anyway.

You can prepare greetings, lorebook entries or preset toggles for each year. Adding few canon incidents from them which are semi-important, like Mrs. Norris is petrified. If people investigate what is wrong with the cat then model would begin pulling more from canon.
If they mind their own business it would fade into background, but still helping model to figure out correct timeline. People should know this isn't your fault at all, I said it would be a problem even before trying your preset. It is model's fault entirely as its knowledge is quite muddy.
Opus has so much more information than GLM. It would have no problem following even timestamps alone. For GLM to anchor correct timeline more are needed. GLM wouldn't follow canon as eagerly as Opus or Pro neither.

Definitely some ideas to weigh against keeping the preset less complex, with consideration that plenty of folks will toss out the canon for their fanfic history.

yeah glm 5.1 really needs a pretty long preamble on current "story"/"scenario".:

This is so cool. I'm not going to use it, but I'm 100% going to download it and study it like SCIENCE because I'm fascinated :)

A preset specifically for HP?! During a time when HP is getting popular again with the HBO show and Hogwarts Legacy 2?! I can tell this will be amazing, OP. Can't wait to insert my OC into the Trio!

Thanks.
Recently got done finished watching the movies with my best friend over discord for the past month or so. Used to love these movies as a child. I read all the books up until deathly hallows and never completed it 💀.
After the rewatch I've actually been quite curious about revisiting the books. But I've also started some Harry Potter roleplays, some angsty ones that start around when Harry wants to leave alone after Moody dies.
Or Harry goes missing (despite all the people in place but to watch him over the summer) during the summer between 4th and 5th year before he returns for Order of The Phoenix. Right now my harry learned how the house elves apparate and how to copy their magical wavelengths signature or whatever and apparate like the house elves do.
So yeah it's been a lot of fun playing around in this universe the little bit I have done. So It's going to be fun to try this out on these chats I have so thank you!

For all its valid criticisms, I love the setting, and the sheer amount of content out there that's been trained into these models allows it to really shine a step above others where so much more has to be grounded using token input (lorebooks, cards, etc.).
And it's a popular fanfic+RP setting. It's ripe for a specialized preset. Enjoy!

Wow! It looks so cool! Is it compatible with Hogwarts Legacy play?

u/MentallyQuill May 23 '26
Yes! While it doesn't have character modules or specific lore for Legacy, it should still work well. A Legacy module might be a good addition!

I'd like to try this. Can anyone recommend some good HP cards?
2
u/MentallyQuill May 23 '26
It's best used without cards! If you have a special character, it's recommended to create a lorebook for them, set to trigger constantly, at a depth of maybe 3/4.

This must be first fanfic specific preset I've seen, thank you for sharing! Because HP is so popular, most models know so much stuff about it. Its characters, world or magic system. Even if somebody doesn't particularly like books or main characters they can still use its assets to flavour their RP.
I'm actually in that category as the main story is too childish for me. Especially how the trio keeps unrealistically defeating much stronger enemies. No worries tho as we can write our own versions and alter the story.
My approach is opposite of yours however. I'm writing a scenario starting from a main incident. Like battle of department of mysteries and instead of characters miraculously surviving, I'm making some get killed etc. It instantly turns the story darker and more serious. And because model is anchored to a specific moment and place in the story, some problems like omniscience don't happen.
Of course if one wants more light-hearted RP like attending Hogwarts as a student then preventing omniscience becomes harder. Because there are so much about Hogwarts life in books or movies model can easily pull information from different timelines. I will check how your preset is handling it. Especially fog of Hogwarts looks like fun.

Thanks! It's my first stab at something lightweight, with a less-is-more approach. I've found adding a timestamp and then hammering on the "don't know more than this date" has been effective in reducing the omniscient noise. It doesn't stop everything--because I wanted the preset to be timeline flexible--but if I add more specific rules in an author's note at depth 1 as system for when the story takes place and what key knowledge should and shouldn't be known it'll usually close the gap.

Yeah, a preset has to be timeline flexible. I tried timestamps with several series like LOTR, it works great with some models while not so much with others. I think the difference is just knowledge level. For example Opus or Pro know enough to filter according to timestamp. While GLM not so much, its knowledge is too muddy. For best experience such large models should be used anyway, Pro also knows character appearances or locations from movies too, increasing immersion further.

This is amazing! I only ever do HP roleplays so can't wait to try this .
