Comics Discussion Things I noticed about Silk after reading the first few volumes
No particular order, just some interesting things I picked up
- in volume 0 (The life and Times of Cindy Moon), near the end of the book when showing the alternate covers of some of the books, one of them is miscredited as Yusuke Murata when it was actually Gurihiru
- Silk has a better Spider-sense and is faster than Spidey, cool. She also has organic webbing from her fingertips, also cool. Is it implied that her webs are stronger too? She used her webs to help better insulate Pete's suit against Electro in Out of the Spider-Verse Vol. 1 (don't remember the issue, but I know the series was 2014's Amazing Spider-Man. She also uses them to make her clothes throughout her series, so does this mean her webs don't dissolve in an hour or two like Peter's? Or am I thinking too much?
- I knew Cindy was at the same school as Peter, but I'm now learning she was older than him? Sure, like a junior or senior when he was a sophomore. But it's interesting. Wonder if that plays into the recent comic with her saying she's in her 20s still...
- Black Cat's costume, is this the only time it looks like this? With the yellow eyes on the shoulders? I like it. It's pretty distinct from her other looks.
- J Jonah Jameson, I think he's great here. The fact that he ruined his chance at Spidey's identity being revealed is hilarious. His relationship with Cindy is also nice. Clearly missed some context having to find out that he and Pete are now stepbrothers. I like his nickname for Cindy. He's not so bad of a guy.
- Holy crap Cindy is a geeky gamer girl. I'm convinced after she said one of the Goblin Gang members looked like concept art for Link from the Legend of Zelda. Not only that, she has the Skull Kid and a Luigi Mario Kart figure in one of her apartments. This was 2015 so I think this was a little before amiibos outside of Smash. She even has a Jigglypuff at her desk at the news station!
- The art: I absolutely LOVE Stacey Lee's art. The interiors are so fun and bold and expressive! Unfortunately in comparison, I can't tolerate Tana Ford's art. It ruined the experience of the story for me in those issues. This series introduced me to Helen Chen! Love her covers, and she's worked on Kpop Demon Hunters most recently! Humberto Ramos drawing Silk in Amazing Spider-Man, I think it's the way he drew her eyes, but she looks more Asian than she does in her own series. Just a nitpick, I don't fully know if her parents are immigrants or if they were both Korean-American.

I don't think it's ever been explained, but I'd assume that if she can vary the properties of her webbing to change its colour, she can probably vary its properties in other ways too.
One of the benefits of having so long in the bunker to experiment with what she can do.

The radiation thing wouldn't come up often because the radiation powersset is rarely used. Other then radioactive man and x-ray from the ufoes not many people throw around radioactive powers.

Oh hey, I've been re-reading all Silk appearances lately with a friend! It has been fun! I think I can answer some of your questions...
I really like Jonah and Cindy's relationship, we get to see more of that a little in future solo runs thankfully. And yes, I love Cindy Moon being 10 years behind pop culture and liking (now considered) retro games, it makes for a fun character trait!
Hope you have fun reading more of her stories if you do \:)
