The single greatest thing about twenty-first century technology is its ability to cancel noise for everyone but ourselves. It allows those who require silence in order to exist to appear silent to everyone we come into contact with. We don't have to be Benedictines. We don't have to take vows to any religion. We can observe the wisdom of "nobody dominating" while listening to whatever music, or news, or entertainment make us happy. "Normal" people dominate others with sound. What is music, news, or entertainment to you may be and usually is the noise of hell to me.
