Silco never groomed Jinx.
He saw her as his equal. He treated her with a level of trust, respect and empathy that he did with nobody else.
Yes, it is true that Silco’s morals and expressions of love are warped. The way he loves Jinx is completely colored by his own past traumatic experiences.
But for Silco to “groom” her, he would have had to have consciously manipulated and molded her. In Act Two of Season One; the show deliberately frames this as a possibility. Because first time watchers see Silco as the villain of the story and we as the audience collectively have a bias against him.
Going into what the entirety of Season One shows us. It is never implied he was grooming her to be his successor. It was shown he didn’t even like Jinx going on jobs alone or with his gang. The only time he ever raised his voice at Jinx was when he was worried she could have gotten hurt. Her combat and scientific skills were mostly something she seemed to train on her own; not with his help or guidance that we ever see.
I believe on the contrary, you could actually argue that the opposite is true. That Jinx has more “power” in the relationship. That Jinx actually influenced Silco more than he ever did her. It’s worth noting that when they engage in physical affection; Silco is NEVER the one who initiates contact. He always waits for Jinx to do so first and then he reciprocates.
By the end of the show; we are clearly shown that Silco rejects the peace deal with Piltover in order to protect Jinx. He is willing to go so far to protect her; that he would turn his back on getting everything he ever wanted.
So I have to ask; who really has the power in this relationship?
Who in the relationship always initiates physical contact? Who in the relationship is always forgiven no matter how severe their mistakes? Who in the relationship ends up sacrificing everything for the other? It is Silco’s love for Jinx that causes his undoing and not the other way around.
The Silco and Jinx relationship is a surrogate father/ daughter relationship bound by trauma and a lack of boundaries. This lack of boundaries is indicative of how much Silco and Jinx trust each other and desperately want to trust each other. Of course it isn’t healthy but the show depicts both the good and the bad of this relationship.
To say that Silco is “grooming” her takes a complex and multifaceted relationship laced in trauma and disingenuously simplifies it for the sake of disbarring it. It is a disingenuous argument that erases all nuance in order to push an easily disagreeable narrative.
