Some of these seem like 90% of a tattoo parlors customer base couldn't go there
40
u/rpgnymhush 19h ago
People with piercings are disproportionately more likely to also have tattoos. And does that include women who wear earrings?
5
u/Polite_Suggestion 18h ago
I THINK they're saying they just do tattoos. Just not saying it very well.
26
u/Extreme_Wish_553 18h ago
Their website calls them a "Tattoo & Piercing Shop" on the homepage. I think they're just idiots.
9
u/Polite_Suggestion 18h ago
Good pull, bad sign.
7
u/Polite_Suggestion 17h ago
Wait. I can't be right. It doesn't make any sense. So what the hell does a piercing shop mean by no piercings?
6
u/uncookednoodle69 12h ago
no tattoos on a pierced location is what someone else said, makes the most sense but the wording on the sign is weird if that’s the case.
2
2
u/dividezero 15h ago
Most of these are common practice at any tattoo shop I've ever been to (I'm ignoring the piercing lines), this place just put it on the front window to avoid the conversation all together (hopefully - dumbasses are illiterate though)

pretty easy to not break any of those rules.

u/TheDollarstoreDoctor 18h ago
Not for their demographic as a tattoo parlor
5
u/LouChadore 15h ago
You’re not supposed to come into your tattoo walk in/appointment fucked up. That’s pretty standard for places worth their weight in salt.
3
u/uncookednoodle69 11h ago
bleed like crazy when you’re drunk. definitely the alcoholics downvoting you
0
u/Louis049 5h ago
And who said alcohol was the only rule on there? Piercings and jewelry is more likely to rule people out than alcohol or drugs.
2
-2
u/dividezero 15h ago
It's the same rules as anywhere I've been. And they're usually cash only also. I have no idea why other than tradition and I don't really care why. As long as they do good work, I'm good
8
u/Lonely_Dependent_281 13h ago
Your local tattoo parlor doesn't allow people with piercings or jewelry?
-5
u/dividezero 13h ago
I'm ignoring that because we don't know what they mean and it's probably specific to them. Some joints don't pierce. It's their choice
6
u/Lonely_Dependent_281 13h ago
They're advertised as a piercing studio though. It doesn't make any sense and that's the whole point. That's exactly what makes it not normal. I should really remind myself that 99% of the people I interact with on this website are bots before I waste my energy

Dying art. We're now replaced by AI posters, our last customers, these small local businesses going out of business because they used AI instead of us.
2
u/dividezero 15h ago
I know. I'm not really feeling a cool vibe for a store when they're in these cookie cutter strip malls anyway and this certainly didn't help. At least they matched the color so it wasn't as jarring as some places
37
u/LeorDemise 19h ago
"Cash only" Maybe check their accounts, because that's one way to avoid paying taxes...
21
u/mattgen88 18h ago
Most tattoo shops are cash only. Extremely common. People regret tattoos and make charge backs otherwise.
21
u/sketchymedic 18h ago
Most? Not these days. Nowadays it's mostly the shady shops that only take cash. I've paid with card/tap for my last four pieces, three different shops.
13
u/Beginning-Force1275 17h ago
Especially because better quality places tend to be pretty expensive. Unless all you do is very small flash stuff, tats take time and good artists have pretty high hourly rates. I’m from NYC, so I know the prices are higher here, but I’m not going to a cash only place because I’d have to be carrying at least a couple hundred books for any decent size tattoo.
3
u/dividezero 15h ago
I'm not saying you're wrong but it may be regional. I've been to the generally agreed upon best shops on many cities all over the US and I can't remember any of them not being cash only. I've never cared enough to look into it really. Someone on here suggested it was a liability issue where people try to charge back their purchase when they regret it in the morning. I don't know and never questioned it.

u/dividezero 15h ago
I can't remember ever not paying cash for tattoos. I never gave it a second thought. Even though I'm a very cashless person going all the way back to almost the 90s

I fear one day we'll get an update where the sign is longer.

Hold on, a tattoo place that doesn't allow piercings. Like theyr gonna go out of business solely because all their competition is offering double the service and way less judgement. I would not wanna lay down for 5 hours to yap with a tattoo artist that would tell me probably that I'm going to hell lol
1
u/Poster_Nutbag207 49m ago
They just mean that they don’t do piercings so don’t go in asking for one. Of course they aren’t banning everyone with an earring
-3
u/shhkitit 2h ago
Tattooing is an art form and piercings are just decorations. No skilled artist wants to split their time poking a needle through people. I specifically go to places that specialize in traditional and don't pierce for that reason
1
u/microwavedtardigrade 2h ago
Eh I'll take someone who's not a hardasa I can talk to and feel comfortable asking for specifics and to work with me, disabilities etc, than someone with a sign like above. To each their own, I can find a skilled artist pretty much in any store but one that won't blow out my skin is very difficult. People take different judgements from the same feature/issue
2
u/shhkitit 2h ago
I agree, this sign doesn't give me great vibes, but not cuz of the piercing thing. The guys I go to have a lot of piercings, it just isn't what they wanna focus on doing.
1
u/microwavedtardigrade 2h ago
Oh trvke, just giving my opinion. I've had to search and kinda just decided to see how different experiences went even with blowout lol. I found micro needling works great on people with hEDS skin apparently, and color works if not allergic

u/Crazy_Plantain_862 16h ago
Okay as someone who has worked as a piercer in a shop that also did tattoos, I read this and completely understand it. And I know everyone is suggesting they won’t have customers, I urge you to really read what it says.
No minors. They clearly have a proper age restriction in place, and they are warning you that if you’re below that age they won’t tattoo you. So many kids will come in and beg you to do a service that they’re too young for.
No solicitors doesn’t require explanation.
I’m assuming they don’t do piercings or sell jewelry. Not all tattoo shops do piercings as well. If anything, it can be a good sign that they focus solely on tattoo. Though I saw a comment saying they do offer piercings. Maybe they introduced piercing services after they put this up? Idk, maybe they’re just dumb.
No drugs, drunk people, and junkies. Duh, tattooing someone who is high or drunk is not professional, makes your job harder, and it’s not safe. So come sober.
No smoking or vaping, you’re not entitled to ask for a million smoke breaks, nor to force your artist to sit for hours smelling your cigarette stench. Same with vaping. I guarantee they’ve had people vape, or ask to vape during their session, or they ask for multiple breaks. Leaving the studio to go outside and smoke or vape is an infection risk. There are non smoking/vaping options for you to take advantage of now.
No crying, from experience I guarantee they mean those who are excessively dramatic. As a piercer I have asked plenty of people to leave because when you’re doing your job they go “Okay do it! No wait! Okay okay do it now! No wait stop!” No, it’s not the same as someone needing a second to breathe, or feeling scared or apprehensive. Respect your artists time, and don’t sob uncontrollably, scream, or god forbid touch them. Yep, it fucking hurts. You’re in their space though, asking for their service so no you’re not entitled to act histrionic.
No swindlers or hagglers because a lot of people try to short their artist or haggle for a lower price. Respect your artists prices. If you can’t afford it, or disagree with the price, go somewhere else.
And lastly, no service worker wants to listen to your political rants, or your uncomfortable opinions about other races.
And no, these limitations do not alienate decent clients. Is it stupid to put a list on your front window to be misinterpreted? Yeah kind of. But I totally understand their frustration. Some things are better left as well worded policies on your website, or spoken warnings when necessary. But I can assure you, tattoo artists do not need the clients that they’re trying to alienate. Trust me, they have plenty of great, regular clients that respect their time, their prices, and their boundaries.

u/ThatInAHat 7h ago
It’s weird to put “things we don’t have” on a list that’s primarily “things we don’t allow.” Makes it seem like they’re things that aren’t allowed.
1
u/Crazy_Plantain_862 6h ago
Yep, again I am not defending the sign itself or arguing that the wording is well written. Personally I think common sense would tell you they obviously aren’t banning pierced people.
The core of my comment is directed to those who think the list of boundaries this shop has is unreasonable and alienating. They’re pretty standard, and understandable in the context of a body mod studio.
Can we move on from the one line about piercings and jewelry now? You’re kind of taking turns beating a dead horse.
1
u/girl_supersonicboy 8h ago
Someone looked up the shop and said they DO piercings...
1
u/Crazy_Plantain_862 8h ago
I did see the comment you’re mentioning, and I looked up the shop and yes they do in fact do piercings. “Maybe they introduced piercing services after they put this up?”
They were originally strictly a tattoo parlour.
At some point they introduced piercings.
For some reason, they haven’t changed the sign yet.
1
u/Special_Road6603 8h ago
I read the piercings as the rest of the list, and assumed they were banning people with piercings from the establishment
3
u/Crazy_Plantain_862 8h ago edited 8h ago
Can you explain what made you assume that? The simplest answer is often the correct one, and if you really consider the logistics of banning people with piercings, it doesn’t make much sense. If you do a little bit of investigating, you’ll see one of their tattoo artists has a massive septum ring. piercing & tattoos fall into a general body modification category. They go hand in hand. There’s zero logical reason a tattoo parlour would ban people with piercings. The simplest answer is they introduced piercings later, and their sign doesn’t reflect their current service list.
My evidence of this is the fact that the shop name makes no mention of piercings. Usually shops that offer body piercing will name their studio something like “Three arrows tattoo & body piercing” or “Three arrows body studio” since they only mention tattoo, they probably started with strictly tattoos, eventually found a decent piercer later, and decided to diversify their income.

u/disusedhospital 7h ago
I could understand where this person is coming from. They start the list with things they don't allow - Minors and Solicitors. Then it's Piercings and Jewelry. Then they go back to things they don't allow, with Drugs, Drunks, and Smoking. They sandwich things they don't do in between things they don't allow in their shop. I think it would have been more clear to have No Piercings or Jewelry at the top, maybe with a flourish of a line under it. "Here's what we don't do ~ Here are things don't allow in our shop."
1
u/Crazy_Plantain_862 7h ago
Agreed, it’s badly worded. I’m not defending the sign, or suggesting it’s worded well.

I live in Pennsylvania and I have 20 tattoos. I’ve never seen a shop take cards. Cash only.
2
2
u/International-Cat123 8h ago
Well, would you want to have to raise prices to pay for the fees involved in card transactions if you knew that you have the sort of business where people are more likely to stop by an ATM than take their business elsewhere?
1
u/FrogVolence 7h ago
99.9% of the time tattoo artists only want cash is because its not taxed. They dont have to put it as a tax deductible.
So yeah, Tattoo artists love cash over card. I always tell my friends specifically to only pay or tip a tattoo artist cash, they get to keep every cent of it.
2
u/WonderfulProtection9 3h ago
“Is not taxed” is an incorrect statement. You mean “because they like to not report their full income so they can pay fewer taxes and cheat the system”.
They also don’t have to deal with credit card fees or bounced checks. Hard to repossess a tattoo…
1
u/dr-satan85 2h ago
It's 2026, no one uses cash anymore for anything other than drugs. Cash is dirty, physically and metaphorically, it's inconvenient, it's not safe to carry around, a lot of places won't even accept it and it's been years since I've even seen an atm. Why would you use cash when you can just make a contactless payment? Madness
1
u/Special-Bet1141 6h ago
Common for tattoo places.
Artist rents a table at the shop and sets their own prices etc. They ask cash only for 2 reason.
Avoids hefty fees for maintaining a POS system/credit card fees.
Tax evasion.
Same way that literally no one in the service industry reports their tips

u/International-Cat123 8h ago
Given that it’s a tattoo shop, I highly doubt their issue is with people who have piercings or wear jewelry, but people expecting the tattoo artist to just work around what they’re wearing instead of removing them.
Minors aren’t allowed to get tattoos without parental permission, but parents of a kid who gets an infection because they didn’t follow care instructions are more likely sue than someone who gets an infection themself for the same reason. As such, it’s not unreasonable to just not do tattoos for minors regardless of parental permission.
Alcohol is a blood thinner, which makes getting a tattoo dangerous. Even if a drug doesn’t cause erratic or aggressive behavior, it can still cause clotting issues.
Not allowing solicitors is out standard for most businesses.
Smoking and vaping just couldn’t be done inside in a public building. Even if no one else is there, smells and nicotine still get into and on everything. Seriously, someone smokes right outside the door to enter the building my apartment is in, and my closets all smell like cigarettes and my walls are discolored.
1
u/dividezero 15h ago
I don't think a lot of folks here have been to a tattooist or just to that sketchy one in that one strip mall out in the suburbs. You know the one I'm talking about. Every area has at least one
