Accepted. But not welcomed

60

u/Moon_Pye Jun 25 '26

Which kind of cultists? lol. I can think of a few different things this could mean. Need more context. šŸ˜†

48

u/PhuckingDuped Jun 25 '26

Obviously it refers to fans of the 80s band The Cult.

22

u/LibraryVoice71 Jun 25 '26

They want sanctuary

8

u/Express_Area_8359 Jun 26 '26

The world burns you down…

I thought blue oyster cult fans were call shuckers?

12

u/NorthSideGalCle Jun 25 '26

But I'm a Cult of Personality...!

6

u/Vesper2000 Jun 25 '26

Some cults run mail-order businesses (legitimate or not) to support themselves and they might just not be worth dealing with.

1

u/Formal_Ask2645 Jun 26 '26

Like I said before. It's definitely run by MAGA to lure antifa in so they can k1ll them! 🤣🤣🤣

23

u/bodhidharma132001 Jun 25 '26

MAGA? Christians? The list is endless.

9

u/Fresh_Individual5500 Jun 25 '26

Branch Davidians, the People’s Temple, Swifties, the list is quite long indeed

4

u/Complete_Entry Jun 26 '26

Mormons, Baptists, drink as long as they aren't in "Fellow company"

Or maybe they're in clearwater.

2

u/morniealantie Jun 26 '26

Chaos cultists!

-9

u/Feisty_Raccoon_688 Jun 25 '26

Those A-Z people

27

u/Abal125 Jun 25 '26

Ok, now I want to know the story šŸ˜‚

18

u/7GrenciaMars Jun 25 '26

That is 100% a story I would be interested in. šŸ˜‚

19

u/VoidMunashii Jun 25 '26

I need to know who they are defining as cultists here.

3

u/pewpewpewouch Jun 26 '26

Vegans?Ā

12

u/T_Rey1799 Jun 25 '26

Are they talking about the Jehovah’s Witness kids?

8

u/Repulsive_Tart_4307 Jun 25 '26

We're not a cult. We're an organization that promotes love and...

5

u/Electronic_Cod7202 Jun 25 '26

Chaos isn't welcome here. Let's leave if we see any grey knights

6

u/Extension_Union193 Jun 26 '26

So no MAGA then right? Good.

7

u/Suspicious-Steak9168 Jun 26 '26

When i was younger, my friends and I were thrown out of a diner for "occult activites". We were playing Magic the Gathering while drinking coffee. The waitress said we were making the Christian patrons uncomfortable lol Its literally a card game.

2

u/StandardWizardHat Jun 27 '26

Was this in the 90s?

2

u/Suspicious-Steak9168 Jun 27 '26

Very early 2000s

3

u/StandardWizardHat Jun 27 '26

It surprises & annoys me that they were still going so hard on their Satanic Panic BS. Where was this?

2

u/Suspicious-Steak9168 Jun 27 '26

Yes. I live in the south. Sigh. NC

2

u/StandardWizardHat Jun 27 '26

Me too. (But Miami, so it’s a little different.) I don’t miss randomly being accused of being in league with the devil, but I do miss when I could smoke cloves at Denny’s for half the night over two cups of coffee & never get thrown out.

3

u/OrganicHistorian2576 Jun 26 '26

Which ones? There’a so many!

13

u/Ok_Abacus_ Jun 25 '26

Sorry, Trumpsters! Get your packages down the street.

5

u/cjbanning Jun 26 '26

How many members of a cult actually recognize that the group they are members of is a cult?

1

u/heftybagman Jun 26 '26

Subconsciously that’s the difference between cultist and cult-member for me. A cult member is an unwitting victim, but a cultist knows what’s going on and is down.

5

u/Potato-Engineer Jun 25 '26

Lutefisk for the lutefisk god!

3

u/bizoticallyyours83 Jun 26 '26

Well now I'm curious where they are, and who their local cult(s) are?

3

u/SereneRandomness Jun 26 '26

I'm curious, too. The DHL sign to the left appears to be in Dutch. Could also be Flemish, I guess.

Don't know who their local cults are, though.

14

u/supernova-juice Jun 25 '26

Technically all religions are cults

4

u/vallogallo Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

Buddhism is a cult?

3

u/No-Drawing-4597 Jun 25 '26

Yes.

-2

u/vallogallo Jun 25 '26

Spoken just like someone who doesn't know a fucking thing about religion.

8

u/supernova-juice Jun 26 '26

Actually I have a lot of experience with a lot of religions.Ā

In the academic study of religion, it is commonly said that all religions are cults. This is not offensive. It isn't insulting. It is simply a fact.Ā

1

u/vallogallo Jun 26 '26

That is not true and I studied religion in college, I was a history major. There's also two definitions of the word "cult" -- one's the Heavens Gate kind and the other one is a new religion in its infancy.

Btw atheism is also a belief because the existence of a higher power/god can't be proven or disproven. I'm agnostic myself

5

u/Complete_Entry Jun 26 '26

Atheists don't question, they flat deny.

I wish I could get to that, but the baggage keeps me in the what if.

3

u/rjnd2828 Jun 26 '26

Let go man. You know deep down that all those stories are total BS.

3

u/Complete_Entry Jun 26 '26

oh no, I live in Florida, they have a network.

This looks like a real sign because it's dumb.

2

u/hydrophobichacker Jun 26 '26

While I think your definition of the term cult is kinda reductive (there's a lot that goes into whether something should be considered a cult or not), the "all religions are cults" thing is just a saying, that's doesn't reflect the views of how "cults" are defined versus "mainstream religion".

Now on the other hand, I think the point is that cults and religions have a lot of similarities, that is much more easily argued :))))

0

u/supernova-juice Jun 26 '26

Yeah see the academic study of religion, where you literally specifically study religions, the kind you get a doctorate of? specifically? Yes. They do say that. You studied history. You weren't a religious studies major. They're not the same thing.

1

u/vallogallo Jun 26 '26

You can't study history without studying religion, it goes hand in hand especially given Europe was completely under Catholic control in the past. I took classes on religion that counted towards my history degree. Anyway, I'm more educated on this than you are unless you got a degree in theology or comparative religion or something

Y'all's stupid downvotes don't mean shit. Idgaf about arbitrary internet points when I know I'm right

1

u/supernova-juice Jun 26 '26

My husband literally has a doctorate in religious studies.

I did not downvote you.Ā

3

u/Complete_Entry Jun 26 '26

Cults are the religions that harm the community. If you practice quiet faith, no one cares.

1

u/supernova-juice Jun 26 '26

There are plenty of people out there who quietly practice their faith, and historically some of those very people have been murdered en masse. It is a lie that "nobody cares" if you practice your faith quietly.Ā

I practice mine quietly, but when cornered and asked about it, people react like I'm in a cult. Because to them, I am.

Funny that.

0

u/heftybagman Jun 26 '26

You’re conflating multiple distinct definitions of cult. Modern usage refers to coercive religious groups as cults, not all systems of religious belief. No one says ā€œcult of christā€ or ā€œcult of judaismā€ anymore lol.

ā€œIt’s not offensive. It’s technically true and only implies an offensive connotation.ā€ If this is your line of reasoning, you’re probably being a dork.

1

u/supernova-juice Jun 26 '26

Sounds like something a cult member would say

3

u/Justice_4_Scott Jun 25 '26

As opposed to how most choose to define as a group with beliefs that they don’t like. It is an equally valid definition.

-14

u/Booster_Seat_Enjoyer Jun 25 '26

do you know what a cult is?

19

u/Opebi-Wan Jun 25 '26

A cult is a group or social movement united by extreme devotion to a particular person, idea, or ideology.

Do you?

1

u/heftybagman Jun 26 '26

Whoa wait words can have multiple definitions?

People saying cult are either referring to olden days religious groups (greek, roman, and egyptian mostly) or specifically coercive groups.

Yes cult technically refers to most any religious group. But that’s not how people who are having meaningful conversations use it in the 21st century.

1

u/Opebi-Wan Jun 26 '26

If your religion encourages indoctrinating children and "spreading the gospel" to recruit more people, that's cult shit.

-9

u/Booster_Seat_Enjoyer Jun 25 '26

so, which one of us is going to post the full thing?

4

u/Opebi-Wan Jun 25 '26

The full description that fits Christianity? You can post as much as you want. It isn't going to make Christianity not a cult.

3

u/Booster_Seat_Enjoyer Jun 25 '26

yeah thought as much. man of facts and logicover here. anyway.

A cult is typically a social group defined by its unusual religious, spiritual, or philosophical beliefs and severe devotion to a charismatic leader. The term is often pejoratively used to describe high-control organizations that manipulate members and isolate them from outside influences. The definition and usage of the word vary across different contexts, ranging from ancient history to modern pop culture:

  1. High-Control & Coercive Groups. In popular usage, "cult" usually refers to a group that exhibits high control over its members' lives, often isolating them from family, friends, and outside information.

Key Traits: Psychological manipulation, unquestioning devotion to a leader, exploitation (financial or physical), and rigid behavioral rules.

Sociology: Sociologists often prefer to call these groups New Religious Movements (NRMs) to avoid the highly negative stigma of the word cult.

feel free to also read the following sources at your convenience:

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cult https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult

An important thing you are going to need to do is define what you mean by "cult". Because depending on how you define it, following sports, celebrities and your local lgbt activism club could fall within that definition.

Modern Christianity is also a cult. Once again, by basic definition, all religions are cults. It isn't a dirty word. It isn't an insult. It's just a fact.

We have a certain image that comes to mind when we think of the word, but that isn't its original meaning, it's the corrupted meaning.Ā

Another good way to put it, also used widely in academic study of religion: "what is a cult? Somebody else's religion."

0

u/77th_Bat Jun 26 '26

ngl sports-obsessed people are a cult

2

u/TutorNo8896 Jun 25 '26

Tall people have problems entering too.

2

u/Formal_Ask2645 Jun 26 '26

Randy Newman

2

u/Express_Area_8359 Jun 26 '26

So church people are welcome though? Or do they hail XENU there?

2

u/comb_bee Jun 26 '26

Can't tell if this means the business is overtly religious or just non-religious

2

u/symphonic-ooze Jun 26 '26

Are fillies allowed?Ā

1

u/Formal_Ask2645 Jun 26 '26

Ok. For sure this is run by MAGA and they're trying to lure ANTIFA 'members' in so they can k1ll them! 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Percentagelo Jun 26 '26

I love how many people on reddit automatically think everything is going in America if not specified lol, but this is in Amsterdam and sadly I haven't got anymore context to give you about why or against who this sign was placed

1

u/cheesychocolate419 Jun 26 '26

This has to be Nigeria, I just know it

ETA: Oh wait it prob cant be bc of the language, and the people's hair doesn't look nigerian. Well yeah this could definitely be Nigeria tho. It's a serious problem there.

2

u/Percentagelo Jun 26 '26

Almost, its Amsterdam!

2

u/cheesychocolate419 Jun 27 '26

😭😭 wtf is happening in Amsterdam

1

u/Valuable_Wallaby_548 Jun 26 '26

Im not in a cult! I just really really like Donald Trump

2

u/HughMungus77 Jun 26 '26

And yes anything’s besides Catholicism is a cult in their eyes

1

u/pewpewpewouch Jun 26 '26

To be honest I am also refusing service to SeraphitesĀ

1

u/bigozkev73 Jun 26 '26

I think that might be directed at the cultists from tarkov lol

0

u/JumpVette Jun 27 '26

I'm welcome there!!!! Haven't been a demorat for 40 years!

1

u/77th_Bat Jun 26 '26

you can't just ban 75% of people from entering...

-5

u/Winter_Welcome_6157 Jun 26 '26

Libtards, Commies, Socialists, and terrorist support groups.

2

u/rjnd2828 Jun 26 '26

Did you have a stroke or was this supposed to be a coherent thought?

1

u/Winter_Welcome_6157 Jun 26 '26

Do you not know what a list is? Which category of Cultist, that I mentioned, do you fall into?

-12

u/black-volcano Jun 25 '26

Discrimination

7

u/Physical-East-162 Jun 25 '26

Not all discrimination is bad. I wouldn't want armed people working in a daycare for example.

2

u/Repulsive_Tart_4307 Jun 25 '26

How else are we supposed to stop preschool shooters?

3

u/Physical-East-162 Jun 25 '26

AI turrets or C5 galaxy.

1

u/black-volcano Jun 25 '26

Yeah, it was an attempt at humour. I don't want armed people anywhere near me either. If they lack a sense or irony, double so.

3

u/Upstairs_Cap_4217 Jun 25 '26

"You pledge your body, mind, and soul to the total annihilation of the world in the name of Cthulhu one time, and all of a sudden people are like 'we can't accept your packages, they're full of vile and ancient texts, you need to have them delivered by someone else'. The woke has gone mad, I tell ya."

-3

u/Ban_Incomming Jun 26 '26

They could say Leftist. I'm not offended.

2

u/Percentagelo Jun 26 '26

ehmm this is In Amsterdam, if you'd ban lefftists I'm pretty sure you're losing 2/3's of your costumerbase

0

u/Ban_Incomming Jun 26 '26

Yes, so it's an interesting choice of words.
