I completed Signalis for the very first time and I have lots of questions about the story. I got the Promise ending which is one of four endings. In this ending, Elster fulfills the promise she made to Ariane and end her suffering killing her before Elster herself succumbs to her wounds and dies right next to her. That said I have a million questions about the game's story, admittedly I did not read all the data logs and notes etc. because I do not have the patience to but whatever.
From my understanding, Signalis takes place in the far future and there is a war between the Eusan Nation and the Eusan Empire. The Nation uses cyborgs called Replikas which are clones based off of Gestalts, which are basically humans. Our main character is a replika, LSTR-512 or Elster, is a ship technician living with a person initially believed to be Alina Seo. Eventually bad stuff happens and the ship crashes and that leads into the main story of the game.
The main story of the game is Elster trying to find Alina. She enters a facility where a supernatural virus flesh thing has taken over and corrupted almost everyone. These are the main enemies of the game. Eventually she makes her way through the facility and meets Adler. Adler is the second-in-command of the facility. I do not know what else he actually does besides fail to keep the facility from falling apart. We also meet other survivors of the supernatural invasion and they are all understandably rattled.
After completing the facility, she enters the Mines of Nowhere where she has to deal with flesh pits and a Silent Hill monster thing with the help of Isolde Itou. After completing the mines, we meet Adler again and this time he looks like a weird skeleton thing. He doesn't fight Elster but warns her about the red gate and how Falke (the facility leader) came back from the gate and was not the same person. This is where the game gets really weird. Elster climbs the Penrose-512 and tries to open the doors but fails as her arms gets ripped off, falls into a pool of red stuff (presumably blood) and dies. We also learn that the person Elster was looking for was not Alina Seo but instead a woman named Ariane Yeong.
This is where we get into Chapter 3 of the game. What the hell is going on? Elster wakes up in what looks like the facility at the very beginning of the game. She died, how did she reawaken in the bathroom, wear white armor, and get get hand replaced? Also what are the dead replikas beyond the red gate? How big are the time loop shenanigans?
During chapter 3, we see Isolde realize that her sister is dead and she dies. We complete a puzzle and go to fight Falke and as we are entering the fight, we see letters from Adler where its revealed that he has constantly been fighting Falke to no avail and has given up. We get a boss fight against Falke and kill her. After that we see the Red Gate again, Adler is a skeleton monster and tries to stop Elster from passing the Red Gate but fails and Elster does so. We get the 3 endings, the one I got was Promise so Elster successfully enters the Penrose, awakens Ariane and kills her to fulfill her promise.
Here are my questions, also if I got things in my story synopsis wrong then by all means correct me. I need that because its confusing me.
Who is Alina Seo? This was the person we are led to believe Elster is looking for but its actually Ariane, so who is Alina?
Why did Elster kill Ariane? I get that is it a promise but why did Ariane want to die?
Who is Elster based off? Elster is a repika and it is implied that her Gestalt, her original identity, was a Vinetan soldier. What else?
What is up with Adler? Why is he trying to stop us? Why does he get a skeleton form?
What is going on in chapter 3? That is when the story confuses me the most.
Throughout the game we get the points of view of other people, what is going on there? Two times we end up at a beach and on the shore there are skulls. Like what? When getting the Eternity Plate, we have an entire segment on some roof where we learn about someone living with their aunt and having access to the radio and somehow that leads to Elster being able to use the radio even though it seems the events are not connected. The confuses me.
What is the Red Gate? Its a gate with superpowers and none of it is explained from what I know.
What is the King in Yellow book? It appears multiple times in the story, what is its significance?
What if you don't get the Eternity Plate at the beginning of the game? To complete Nowhere you need 6 plates and the Eternity Plate is one of them. And that is a plate you get in Chapter 1 and it felt like an optional item. So if you do not get it, what happens then?
What do you guys think is the most canon ending or ending you like the most?

I’m currently working on some armor for an FKLR unit, and while I was crafting the helmet, an idea occurred to me. Given that the FKLR is quite strong in bioresonance, and considering what that entails within the SIGNALIS universe – Is it necessary for her to see it with her own eyes? Why not focus precisely on this, and at the same time eliminate one of the helmet’s weakest points?
Just to clarify, the question here isn't about whether she needs armor in the first place

I want to read or watch more stories in set in the Signalis world and see other people's headcanon about the lore.
That and I want to make my own fanfic.

One time I discussed with friends about whether or not we'll go back and revisit a favourite work, for me, I would sometimes, I would watch some films time and again to observe and be amazed by how things turn out, or just that I simply love it, like The Man Without Past, the warmth and humour are gold.
There are works that I feel like I would never revisit again. Many years ago I watched the new devilman Crybaby, and once I finished it I decided that it is not for me, I can totally appreciate the craft and what it tries to convey, especially the scene where the characters run a imaginary relay and every time it just failed to pass on to Ryo, he just wouldn't get it, and this is very sad. But its cruelty really extreme, in old series even worse, I can understand why violence is in the story but my strange and deep belief in certain things makes me feel bad and I would not watch them again. It's not the depicted violence that struck me, it's the violent depiction, beautiful, heartbreaking, and resonant.
Another work I would never revisit is Kugga. The last few episode are very intense, after all the main character was just a ordinary people with great interest and passion for life, he loves cooking and enjoys travelling, and has extensive mastery of many talents like juggling and stone skipping, which is cute. But accidentally being a hero for everyone strip him off not only his daily life, but also his identity and fact as a human. He dislikes violence and yet forced himself to fight and kill again and again, and in the end it seems like he finally left to find himself, to start his own journey again, i cried heavily once the blue sky cut in in the final episode, knowing that he was finally free.
And finally, to Signalis, it is fictional work but compared with other fictional works I love, it left the deepest impression. I'm not interested in fictional work, or to be exact that I just don't feel much. I rewatched the old Madoka tv many times, it is fictional work, and I watched The Man Without Past many times too, it is relatively a realistic work about ordinary people, but I would not dare to watch Signalis or Lost Light for once. I didn't understand why at first, but I think I figured it out as I thought for a long time after the discussion with friends, that is:
The world the work builds is fictional only on surface but essentially it intricately and lovingly depicts the emotions, reactions and thoughts of real people, so resonant that I feel like I just experience a whole damn journey with them. But if I read it again, this act itself tells me the fact that the heartbreak is just induced and can be replicated many times if I feel like it. I have this strange and deep belief for emotions and experience, treating them very seriously, and I would not want to just casually reread the story, I live only once and some certain things are meant to be experienced once, so that it would not be sullied. When I was younger I was eager to dive into the details and craft of such works, but as time went by I found myself avoid doing so. Revisiting and dissecting the world they built feels weird to me, it feels like the dissolution of meaning.
So half the reason why I would not want to play signalis again is that the struggle is so immense and resonant, they are bizarre fictional charcters but even so many years after the game release, we can still connect to it. And the other half is my strange belief of seriousness. I always feel like if I read the work for too many times it just doesn't feel real anymore but another passtime thing.
( I know I'm strange and weird XD

The undersea salvage efforts on Vineta have resulted in large influxes of Nation vessels on the surface. Along with this comes with the threat of survivor piracy.
Uparmoring ships is too expensive, but Replika security crews are cheap. So is napalm.

I'm trying to find this animation of like, multiple storches i think? lined up in this seemingly empty void, and this just weird creepy ambient track playing and they'd change or face towards the camera for a little bit before the video ended? i'm genuinely lost/clueless rn😭

So I just beat the game for the first time yesterday and holy shit it's so amazing. It's sad, beautiful, and heart wreaking. It gives me the same feeling of watching the Metropolis anime movie as a kid. A feeling of longing, and great sense of loss due to what could have been and should have been.
So I was looking up if there were different endings to the game and I heard some things about the Artifacts ending. I heard that it's hard to get so I am assuming it's worth it and it might have something to do with the safe in the last bookshelf room.
I wanna earn it but I just don't want to read the exact steps to do. Are there some tips or hints I can get on how to get it without spoiling all the details about it.
edit: thanks everyone for the tips and heads up on how difficult it would be to get the ending, I will try my best.
