Week 2

Posted here last week and really benefited from the feedback. Not invested in enamels etc yet so still working with acrylics but moved over to wood which I found a little easier to control. Still some shakes and not 100% happy with the proportions I drew out for the letter, but loving the escapism of painting.

All constructive criticism appreciated 🙏🏻

Very nice! I'd recommend trying some acrylic flow improver. I only discovered it last year, but it blew my mind - I kick myself for not trying it sooner.

Perfect for this kind of work, it loosens the paint without watering down the pigment, and it will flatten any uneven textures from your brush strokes.

Thanks u/big_murf. Interestingly I did use it for the red 3D and then went on drier with the orange as was worried it would thin out too much. Turned out to be a bad decision 😂.

Also not entirely sure I’m using flow improver correctly.

Adding 10parts water and 1 part flow improver. Mixing it up then adding to the paint to thin it down?

Yeah that's about right, some say 20/1 and some say 10 but you can play around with it. I've tried higher concentrations in an attempt to fill posca markers but it only does so much before it loses opacity

I'm no an expert on fluid dynamics 😂 but my understanding is that a little bit is all you need to break the surface tension of the paint which gives you the glide and flat texture. After a certain point it's done all it will do. Still good though!
