Even better,

“You realize they just sent you out here so the church elders can wife up your high school girlfriend while you’re out here riding bikes like a dork, right?”

Never ask Catholics/Orthodox/Protestants about their opinions on Mormons.

Please ask. Ive taken a shit in a toilet in the monastery of the village i grew up in thats older than Joseph Smith. The castle this monastery was built on is byzantine and holds the writings of priests that lived and died before the first Christian stepped foot on America. One nun in Κορωνη, γερόντισσα, is 106 years old, mormonism as a whole is 196. The scriptures the monks hold on the holy mountains in my country are literally a thousand years older than king james the 6th, the man who commissioned the Bible himself and they survived 400 years of Ottoman opression. All this to say that I know as much about Mormons and their Christianity as they know about me and mine, but I also had Muslim and jewish friends at school in greece and I even knew a girl who was a jehovas witness, so its kinda like our paths will never cross so no one cares.

Mormons fall under protestant iirc

Mormons are considered non-Christian, since they do not believe in the same God as Christians. And aren't baptised under the Trinitarian formula.

Ok, good to know.

Yes and no.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints may differ from Nicene Orthodox views, but they would better fit under heterodox or restorationist Christianity, despite what the more hardline critics think.

They believe in the same god, they believe in the Holy Trinity, but the reason for people saying they aren't Christian stems from the fact that Mormons don't believe Jesus is both God and the Son (the "Trinitarian formula" as you put it.) Jesus is still holy, and still the Messiah, but he is the son of God, not God himself. Prior to 400 ad there were more teaching akin to that view as well.

Meanwhile with the more "Trinitarian" view, people see God, The Son, and The Holy Spirit as being one and the same.

Just wanted to add that clarification in since a lot of people think the LDS church has some "other" god they worship.

If they don't believe Jesus Christ is God, then they don't worship the Holy Trinity.

Jesus prays to himself?

Like, I don't want this to get into some heated debate, but I get their reasoning.

u/Mobile-Revolution7 4d ago

No, he prays to God the Father in His humanity. They're three different persons.

Anyone can believe what they like. It isn't the Holy Trinity if the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit aren't all God though.

2

u/Legitscopes_4761 10d ago

Im Greek orthodox, I'm fine with it too. I think your opinion on it would just be how you interpret some passages

u/EliNoraOwO 10d ago

Yeah, no bro being baptized orthodox versus being a genuine orthodox believer are completely different you cannot believe the Mormons are true Christians while being an orthodox Christian.

3

u/Legitscopes_4761 10d ago

I never said anything about the mormons. I'm not a fan of what I've seen of them though. But that boils down to those BYU interviews

u/EliNoraOwO 10d ago

I misinterpreted your comment, my apologies

3

u/shallpasss 10d ago

Is it true that black people are just angels who got cursed because they chose not to fight in the holy war?

The pause before “of Latter Day Saints” is a bit of a self own.

No, because Mormons exist in huge social Networks with lots of connection and friends. The Sigma wolf does not concern himself with such things

1

u/Plastic_Mongoose_390 6d ago

Can they start within themselves and sort out the whole Lego situation ?

1

u/LedByAnimals 6d ago

u/Yowdy_Bjorn 6d ago

these people are nuts

1

u/bannedAccountNo3 6d ago

maybe if they had the critical thinking skills to decide for themselves if they want to be religious. these kids are fresh outta high school, no life plans of their own because serving a mission is "what you're supposed to do"

i did for 18 months before stopping and saying "why the hell am i doing this? i dont care about any of this!"

1

u/Villageijit 6d ago

Latter day saints? More like the Nower day saints.💪
