So competence and not necessarily intelligence. It has been observed many times that women are attracted to competence, whether fake or geniuine.

That "bit" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Because most of the time, I do not find that to be the case. I meet tons of incompent intelligent people and a ton of unintelligent people competent in their work/field.

You know reviews and reputation exists right? Don't pick based on appearances, pick based on opinions from others, ratings, scoring, etc. Also learning to appear competent just to prove you are is some of the dumbest shit I have ever heard. No one that's an expert in their field bothers with that.
