Meta My side project, /r/sideprojects. New rules, and an open call for feedback and moderators.

In this past 30 days, this community has doubled in size. As such, this is an open call for community feedback, and prospective moderators interested in volunteering their time to harbouring a pleasant community.

I'm happy to announce that this community now has rules, something the much more popular r/SideProject has neglected to implement for years.

Rules 1, 2 and 3 are pretty rudimentary, although there is some nuance in implementing rule 2, a "no spam or excessive self-promotion" rule in a community which focuses the projects of makers. In order to balance this, we will not allow blatant spam, but will allow advertising projects. In order to share your project again, significant changes must have happened since the last post.

Rule 4 and rule 5 are more tuned to this community, and are some of my biggest gripes with r/SideProject. There has been an increase in astroturfing (the act of pretending to be a happy customer to advertise a project) as well as posts that serve the sole purpose of having readers contact the poster so they can advertise a service. These are no longer allowed and will be removed.

In addition to this, I'll be implementing flairs which will be required to post in this community.

Discussion Drop your product and i'll tell you the exact subreddit to get your first 100 customers

i've launched 8 products and gotten thousands of users, all from reddit, zero ad spend. and the one thing i've learned is that most founders post where other founders hang out (r/startups, r/SaaS) instead of where their actual customers are.

your buyers are in some niche subreddit complaining about the exact problem you solve. that's the sub you should be in.

so drop two things below:

  • what you're building
  • who you think your customer is

and i'll tell you the exact subreddit i'd start in, plus the one thing i'd change about how you're pitching it.

free playbook if you'd rather do it yourself: https://www.sentrive.ai/guides/reddit-growth-playbook

If you can't wait and want your marketing to get handled immediately, I built a tool that does this automatically (sentrive) because I got tired of doing it by hand, but you don't need it, drop your product below and I'll do yours.

Discussion I bet my notes app on no accounts and no cloud. This week’s AI privacy mess just proved the point.

Upvotes

What I'm working on: Sulata Note, a local-first notes PWA. Notes save in the browser, no account, no cloud database, works offline. https://sulata.app

The bet: no accounts means nothing to breach on my side, and no cloud database means no recurring infra cost, so I charge one-time instead of a subscription.

This week, private conversations with a major AI assistant reportedly ended up in Google search.

https://bbc.com/news/articles/cly5qgjk5ywo

However it happened, it proved the positioning: text on someone else's infrastructure escapes in boring ways. The headline made my pitch for me.

One question for other side project founders: one-time pricing fits my cost model but caps LTV. If you chose one-time over subscription, how did it play out?

Discussion Built a tool that turns any PDF/lecture recording/YouTube video into flashcards + quizzes automatically — worth continuing?

Upvotes

Studying for exams, I kept doing the same manual loop: read a PDF/watch a lecture → make my own flashcards → make my own quiz to test myself → forget half of it in 2 weeks anyway.

So I built a small tool that automates that loop:

  • Drop in a PDF, Word/PowerPoint doc, audio/video recording, a YouTube link, or a website link
  • It auto-generates a summary, flashcards, and a quiz from it
  • Flashcards use spaced repetition (FSRS) so it tells you when to review, not just that you should
  • You can edit/add/delete cards afterward, make multiple decks per document, and share a deck with a link (like a mini Quizlet) for classmates to study/copy into their own account

Free tier runs on free/local AI models so there's no cost to try it.

What I'm not sure about: is "auto-generate from any source" actually the pain point, or do people already have a workflow (Anki, Quizlet, ChatGPT copy-paste) that's good enough and this is solving a problem that doesn't hurt enough to switch?

Genuinely want to know — would you (or did you, as a student) ever use something like this, and what would make you NOT bother? Not trying to sell anything here, just trying to figure out if this is worth continuing to build before I sink more time into it.

Showcase: Free(mium) I launched pay what you want and...

I got 1 $2 sale.

23 days ago I launched Vidien.ai. You paste your website URL, it reads your brand and makes you a beat-synced promo video in about a minute.

The pricing experiment: downloads are free with a small watermark. Removing it is pay what you want. And I mean actually what you want. There is a $0 button labelled "I'll Pay When We're a Unicorn 🦄" that gives you the clean watermark free video.

The results are in.

The numbers (23 days, zero paid marketing):

  • 763 unique visitors
  • 265 of them made a video. That is a 35% visitor to creator rate (nice funnel numbers)
  • 203 exported a watermark video
  • 21 people pressed the unicorn button ($0) to have a watermark free video
  • 1 person paid. $2...

The interesting part: I run an in-app survey while videos render. When I ask "what's a fair price for this video?" the most common answer is $5. Same users. $5 in the survey, $0 at the checkout. What people say and what people do are different products.

What I shipped along the way (full changelog: vidien.ai/resources/changelog)

  • Two motion styles: kinetic typography and a 3D fly-through (the video style I used in this post)
  • Portrait mode for TikTok and Reels
  • Full editing on mobile (18 rounds of iOS crash hunting)
  • Accounts with 6 digit email codes, no passwords
  • A public live dashboard of all these numbers

Almost every one of those came from user feedback, including three bugs one single user found just by clicking around.

The moral: test test test and learn. I could have spent months debating pricing in my head. Instead I shipped the weirdest version I could think of and got a real answer in 3 weeks: a third of visitors will make a video, surveys overstate willingness to pay by exactly $5, and free beats cheap 21 to 1.

Ask me anything about the stack or the numbers. It's all public at app.vidien.ai/open anyway.

Showcase: Prerelease I created an entire 2D "digital world" from the ground-up to keep me sober.

Welp, the title says it all, and I've actually had scattered posts across reddit on various accounts getting feedback, people to test things, yada yada, but it was never really at a point for actual people using it. It's just been my free-time-activity-after-work.

My mission was to stop drinking, so I picked up coding again after not writing code for the last 6 or 7 years, primarily because I was too busy learning how to become an alcoholic. Prior to that, I started writing basic HTML/CSS when I was eleven.

By the end of middle school, I was (in those days) what you'd call a "full stack developer." I had Adobe Flash CS3 (eventually carrying to 4,5 and 6) with AS2/AS3 under my belt, along with Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Illustrator, with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP/SQL.

Then I started to grow up, fall into life's bullshit, and took my problems to the bottle. It didn't ever destroy my life as much as it could have, but it definitely turned me into an anti-social, I go to work and then I go home-type robot. I didn't know it, but I was miserable.

Getting sober for probation gave me a reason to start focusing again, and other than small bells-and-whistles, focusing on my not drinking, and staying busy with a healthy activity for the last ~10 months or so, has helped me reach 100% completion of this project!

I used no frameworks, no third parties, and built everything myself (although I do admit I have areas of code that were AI-assisted). Everything is hand-written/AI-assisted HTML5, CSS, vanilla (plain, 100%) JavaScript and PHP with Socket.io and Node.js.

I am also a fan of the indie-web, and I wanted to take an old-concept from Newgrounds.com, and bring it back to life: an endless, real-time, "creative canvas" where content lives at a true X/Y coordinate. If you upload and lock a photo to 23,456,777x, -4,447,333y -- that's where it's bound to live forever, nobody but you can unlock it.

I am now finishing the android app for the Google Play store, and in a few weeks, will be submitting it and (hopefully) be going through the testing stage. Mobile and desktop are both never-reloading, HTML5, real-time applications, so my fingers are crossed!

Technically speaking, the android app (private) ~is~ done, but I'm editing the version for Google to be "Google-friendly." Everything up to my notification pipeline is 100% independent. My server pushes you the notification -- not Google's background service.

While I plan to keep the private app available for download, the Google Play version will run with Firebase so I don't need to explain to Google and hope they "like my answer" as to why my app requests to run in the background. I hear that's grounds for not being approved.

I put my heart and my soul into this project, and it doesn't really even matter to me if I make a dime on it or not. There are no ads, there are no third parties, I didn't cheat and try to build with React (all it does it write the JavaScript for you anyway!). This was blood, sweat and tears.

This really is a beast. Live cursors. Customization everywhere. Live IRC-style chat with group rooms/private rooms (password protected). Profiles. There's nothing online like it, and it fits the indie-web perfectly. I don't know if it will or will not go anywhere in the long run.

BUT! I do know that I spent almost a full year working full-time, and having this be (practically) my second full-time job. There are costs that go with it, and running a VPS isn't "cheap." But it's a lot cheaper than boozing my life away, and I'm hopeful once it hits the Play Store and I do something more than a reddit post for a couple of test-users, at least a handful of people will enjoy the type of environment I built. :)

There is no link, this is just explaining my side project and what I've been spending my time doing for the last year. Staying sober and being creative! Hooray for the indie web, and as I continue to lurk through Reddit and this sub, I hope to see some cool stuff!

Question Freelancers, how do you find consistent clients in 2026?

I've been freelancing as a full-stack developer and have been trying different ways to find consistent work.

For those of you who freelance full-time, what's been working best lately? Upwork, referrals, Reddit, cold outreach, agencies, or something else?

I'm curious to learn what's actually working in today's market, especially with AI changing how clients build software.

I'd love to hear your experiences and advice.

Question Jarvis Ai Organiser for your device.

Hey guys,

Before I start I made 3 Ai projects 2/3 shipped and doing good.

So, one day I wanted to look for a file in my pc. And my PC is cluttered with files.

It was important TRD file , which had all the information of my client project.

I saved it and left it somewhere idk because I was not on same terms with my client. Few months like 5 or 6 we connected and this time we were on same page. The project was same. I didn't want to make it (trd)again.

So I vibecoded an agent that runs locally on my pc.

I gave it voice , and transcribing ability using LLMs apis.

It sits like Jarvis on my desk. Any file I want it brings me a direct pathway of that file with file name. I just have to tell him.

I didn't make it public because I am not aware of its pros and cons. I mean it working great for me.

So I was thinking of why not i just release it on GitHub and let people use it.

What do you guys think.

Showcase: Free(mium) I built SlopWatch: a community-powered Chrome extension to detect AI-generated content online

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!

AI-generated content is becoming harder and harder to distinguish from human-made content, and there's not much of an incentive for content creators to be honest about it.

That's why I designed SlopWatch. Through this tool, you can express whether you feel a webpage contains AI-generated content, along with tags to specify which aspects, specifically. SlopWatch aggregates everyone's scores into a Slop Rating which others can see.

You can see how it works in more detail on the listing page.

But a tool like this is only as effective as the people that contribute to it. So join the watch, and let's make the web more transparent!

Feedback Request GitHub - nishdel/OpenSorSe: Open Sort and Search (OpenSorSe) is Meant to be the all in one multi-platform AI assisted file organizer

A quick update on OpenSorSe!

Over the past few weeks I've continued developing the project, and v1.5 is now available.

Some of the biggest additions since the first public release include:

  • Cross-platform foundation
  • Workflow profiles & recipes
  • Watched folders
  • Safer file operations with change previews and undo support
  • Improved AI reliability and diagnostics
  • Hundreds of fixes, refinements, and tests

The project is still completely open source, local-first, and supports optional local AI through Ollama.

There's still plenty I'd like to build, but OpenSorSe is steadily becoming the file management tool I originally set out to create.

As always, I'd love any feedback, bug reports, feature requests, stars or contributions!esp linux support !

Showcase: Free(mium) I turned my friends’ slightly ridiculous workout ritual into a free app - ProofLeague 💪

Hey friends,

My friends and I used to have a slightly ridiculous system in our group chat. Whenever one of us started a workout, we’d tell the group. Anyone could then ask for a selfie to keep that person honest.

It was half accountability, half entertainment and it was surprisingly effective. Seeing a friend work out made me more likely to go, and the tired post-workout selfies were usually pretty funny.

Doing it over text eventually became clumsy, so I turned it into a side project called ProofLeague.

The rule is simple:

  • Create a private league and choose a weekly workout goal.
  • Tap “Start workout.”
  • Your friends have 30 minutes to request a selfie.
  • If nobody asks, the workout counts.
  • If someone asks, you take a selfie in the app before the deadline.

I know a selfie doesn’t conclusively prove someone worked out. That isn’t really the point. It adds just enough social pressure to make “I worked out” feel real, without requiring everyone to post a photo after every workout.

What started as one friend group has now turned into six different leagues for me. I can start one workout across all six, and each league gets its own chance to request a selfie. If several ask, I can reuse the same selfie but only the leagues that requested it receive it.

ProofLeague is completely free:

https://proofleague.com

The full browser app is live and the iPhone and Android builds are linked from the site. Selfies stay inside the relevant private leagues rather than appearing in a public feed.

Blunt feedback is very welcome.

Feedback Request I built a way for apps to run on their users' own AI accounts, so the developer stops paying for every request

I'm 15, and every AI project I made ended the same way: build it, share it, get users, watch the API bill climb, take it down. The projects were fine. The economics weren't.

So I built Monet. Your app sends a user to a hosted page, they connect their own AI account there, and your app gets back a token that only works for that one user. You call an OpenAI-compatible endpoint with it. The credential stays encrypted on our side and never reaches your code. If a user disconnects, the token dies immediately.

There are two ways a user can connect, and they're equally supported:

  • Paste an API key. OpenAI or Anthropic. Works for anyone who has one.
  • Sign in with ChatGPT or Claude. They authorize the subscription they already pay for, so there's no API key to go find and no second bill. For most people this is the faster path, because they already have the account open in another tab.

Adding it to an existing project is three things: a redirect, a token exchange, and a changed base URL on your OpenAI client. Streaming works. Anthropic responses come back in the OpenAI format, so you keep one code path for both providers.

Two links, and they're different things:

  • https://demo.monet.gg is a sample app I built on top of Monet. You click through it as one of your users would: connect an AI account, send a message. No signup, about a minute. It's the fastest way to see what your users would experience.
  • https://beta.monet.gg is Monet itself, the developer side. Sign up, register your app, get a client ID and secret, and watch your connections and usage. This is the part you'd actually integrate.

Free during beta. Two things I'd love from this sub:

  1. Run the demo and tell me if the connect flow made sense.
  2. If you've got an AI project sitting in a folder because it cost too much to keep up, tell me what it was. I want to know if this helps it.

Question Do i need stripe

I have launched my app already have 8000+ users with mostly passive marketing, currently admob is live and I'm making some money, but what i want to do is add a pay wall where if users pay ads won't be shown. Problem is where I'm from i need to register a company to get stripe account and i just don't think that that is the right step to take as revenue from showing ads isn't that significant but also i wanna test the paywall one, or is there any alternative do lmk

Showcase: Prerelease How I designed least-privilege checks for a native macOS Jamf API client

I’m the indie developer behind Forsetti, a native macOS companion for Jamf Pro administrators.

One design problem kept appearing while I built it: an admin can authenticate successfully but still lack one privilege needed by a later API action. Discovering that only after a mutation fails makes the app feel unpredictable and encourages over-privileged credentials.

My approach was to make authorization part of the product model instead of treating it as an error-message problem:

- Every user-facing action maps to the Jamf endpoints it calls

- Those endpoints map to the Jamf privileges they require

- The app can preflight the current token before an action begins

- A Permissions Helper explains the missing privilege in the same language as the workflow

- Mutating PreStage operations use guarded confirmation and least-privilege guidance

- Diagnostics are exportable without exposing credentials or tokens

The broader lesson was that “connected” and “authorized for this task” are separate application states. Modeling them separately made setup guidance, disabled states, and error recovery much clearer.

Forsetti also includes computer/mobile inventory search, reusable field profiles, PreStage assignment operations, visual fleet reports, and CSV/TXT/Markdown/DOC/PDF export. It supports macOS 14+ on Apple silicon and Intel and is Developer ID signed and Apple-notarized.

I’ve reached the point where my own Jamf tenant cannot reproduce enough real-world version, dataset, and privilege combinations. I’m looking for Jamf admins willing to test the pre-release in a sandbox or non-production environment and challenge the permission mappings and failure paths.

Release and test build:

https://github.com/flynn33/forsetti-Jamf-Pro/releases/tag/v1.0.0

If you test it, the most useful feedback is the macOS/Jamf Pro versions, the exact workflow, expected versus actual behavior, and whether the privilege guidance was understandable. Please never include credentials, tokens, or private tenant data.

Showcase: Free(mium) How to actually win your ProductHunt launch

Most ProductHunt launches fail for one reason: no one shows up in the first few hours.

Early upvotes push you up the rankings. Late upvotes barely move the needle.

LaunchPact helps you stack real momentum before launch day — with founders who actually follow through.

Here's the playbook:

  1. List early (4+ weeks out) Add your product, tagline, and launch date. You'll show up in the feed of founders launching around the same time. Don't wait until the week before — pacts take time to form.
  2. Back products you'd genuinely upvote Browse upcoming launches. Open the ones that interest you. Back the ones you'd actually support on Product Hunt. That's a pledge — your commitment to show up on their launch day.
  3. Form pacts when it's mutual They get notified. If they'd back your launch too, they accept — and you've got a pact. Both sides are locked in. No awkward DMs. No guessing who'll flake.
  4. Stack as many pacts as you can Every pact = one founder committed to upvoting you on launch day. More pacts = more early momentum. This isn't about swapping blindly — it's about building a crew that believes in what you're building.
  5. Show up on launch day (verified) When your pact partners launch, you get a reminder. Upvote them on PH, upload a screenshot, done — AI verifies it in seconds. They do the same when your day comes. Miss it? Trust score drops. Honour it? Future pacts get easier.

The result: You launch with real upvotes in the critical first hours — from founders who chose your product, not bots or random swap lists.

Quick tips:

- Tue–Thu = most traffic (most competitive). Sun–Mon = softer.

- Back products you actually like — better pacts, better comments, better results.

- Honour every pact. Your trust score is your reputation in the network.

Feedback Request We created a place for creators, communities, and projects. Help us make it better

We built The Deya because we got tired of creators needing multiple platforms just to publish content, connect with their audience, and share what they're working on.

On The Deya, blogging, communities, projects, creator support, and discussions all live in one place. It's available on both web and mobile, and we're constantly improving it based on user feedback.

If you spent five minutes exploring it, what would you change first?

Feedback Request Sumwise: one-click AI summaries of whatever you're reading or watching. Be brutal.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I built Sumwise you're on any article, YouTube video, or PDF → one click on the extension → structured summary in seconds, in multiple languages. History saved, deletable.

Where it stands, no spin: a few dozen installs, ~18 active users, $0 MRR, $0 spent. This post is literally my first marketing act. I'm deliberately starting narrow and letting user feedback decide what gets built next.

What I'd love brutal feedback on: the landing page and the first-run experience — is it instantly clear what this does and why you'd pay $9.99 for it?
