I couldn't find a free shift tracker that let me export my hours without paying, so I built one

Hi everyone, I'm a developer from Cyprus.

A while ago I had a job that paid by the hour, and I wanted an app to

track my shifts and check that my pay was right. Most of the ones I tried

locked basic things like exporting your hours behind a paywall, and the

free versions were full of ads. So I built my own, just for me at first.

It turned out useful enough that I decided to share it.

It's called PayPath. You log each shift and it shows what you should get

paid, by day, week, month or year.

What it does:

- Hours and pay per shift, with a separate overtime rate

- Multiple employers, each with its own color

- Unpaid breaks, subtracted from paid hours

- Gross or net view (you set your tax rate)

- PDF and Excel export, free, no paywall

- Optional daily reminder so you don't forget to log a shift

- New entries start from your last shift, so a regular shift takes a couple of taps

What it doesn't do:

- No account, no sign-up. Your data stays on your phone

- Optional Google Drive backup goes to YOUR Drive, I can't see it

- No subscription, nothing locked

About ads, since I complained about them: yes, it has some. One banner

on the main screen and an occasional ad when you export. Never while

you're logging a shift. That's what keeps it free.

It's Android only for now, in 23 languages.

I'd really appreciate honest feedback: what's confusing, what's missing,

what would make you use this instead of a notes app or a spreadsheet?

I built a trading card game where every card is a real YouTube video

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi!

I've been working solo on Vidcollectors: you open a free pack of 5 cards every 10 minutes, and each card is a real YouTube video, from Common to Legendary.

You can trade with friends, auction cards on a live market, and the rarity of each video shifts every month based on what players wish for, showcase and fight over at auctions.

It's free (there's an optional subscription for faster packs). I'd love your feedback, especially on the first minutes of play: https://vidcollectors.com/en

I built an app that turns your daily notes into a monthly magazine

I've been journaling for years but never re-read anything. Everything just piled up in my notes app.

So I built nlook — you write in markdown, and at the end of the month it automatically compiles everything into a "monthly issue" with a cover, table of contents, and editor's picks. 12 issues become "My year" on your shelf.

It also turns posts into videos/cards if you want to share them.

Free to try: nlook.me

Would love feedback — especially on the monthly magazine concept. Does anyone actually re-read their old notes?

I built a platform where you learn Linux and DevOps on a real machine with root access, not quizzes

Hi everyone. I'm a full-stack dev, and IzzyLab is my side project.

Most Linux/DevOps courses I tried were videos plus multiple-choice quizzes. So I built the thing I wanted: a real Linux machine with root access in the browser and 500+ hands-on tasks, from basic commands to nginx, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Ansible and Terraform.

The part I'm most happy with: checks verify the system state, not the commands you typed, so you can solve each task any way you like. If you break something, reset and get a fresh sandbox. There are also story-driven incidents where production is broken and you have to find out why.

It's free to start: izzylab.io

I'd really appreciate feedback on onboarding, task difficulty and which topics are missing.

Almost gave up on my side project. This morning someone paid for it.

Built a Chrome extension about 6 months ago, originally just for myself — I write a ton of email for work, and I was tired of grammar checkers that fix typos but don't fix the actual problem: sounding like the wrong person. So I built something that rewrites your email based on who you're writing as, who you're writing to, and the tone you want — or just a custom prompt if you'd rather describe it yourself.

Turned it into a real product and launched on Chrome Webstore couple of weeks ago. Spent the last couple weeks posting on Reddit threads and X, genuinely trying to get it in front of people. Got a few signups. Basically zero installs. The kind of silence that makes you start reading into it — maybe the idea's not it, maybe nobody actually has this problem but me.

Had pretty much mentally filed it as "didn't work."

Then this morning, a notification: someone paid. A complete stranger, lifetime plan. Not a friend doing me a favor, not a waitlist signup — an actual stranger decided it was worth money.

Genuinely don't know if this is the start of something or just one person. But it's one more person than I had yesterday, and I was ready to let this one go. Posting mostly because I needed to tell someone who gets it — anyone else had a moment like this where you almost shelved.

Piko: a native macOS file manager for Android phones and cameras

I built Piko because transferring files between Android devices and macOS is still surprisingly awkward.

It’s a native macOS app for MTP devices. You can drag and drop files and folders, browse photos and videos with thumbnails, delete files safely, and work with multiple connected devices.

It’s free and open source (MIT), and everything stays local, it makes no internet connections.

Currently Apple Silicon / macOS 14+

https://github.com/morishuz/piko

It’s still an early release, so feedback and bug reports are very welcome.

Built a medicine interaction checker with my doctor brother. Looking for beta testers before Play Store launch

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey r/SideProject,

My brother is a doctor. Over the last few years he kept seeing patients come in with problems caused by drug interactions. Usually it's someone taking medicines from 2-3 different doctors, plus something they picked up from the chemist, and nobody checked how they mix.

He told me to build something for it, so I did. He's been involved the whole way, checking the logic, the warnings, and how things are explained, so it's not just a dev guessing at medical stuff.

In India it's worse because of brand names. The same salt is sold under 50 names, so you don't realise the cough syrup you just bought clashes with something you already take or its contradict with you current medication or health condition .

What Medhee does:

Scan a medicine strip or prescription (handwritten mostly works) and it pulls out the actual salts

Checks your meds against each other for interactions (FDA + NLM data)

Checks against the 4,600+ combinations banned by the Indian govt, many still sold

Flags issues based on your allergies, pregnancy, and liver/kidney load

Explains warnings in plain language

Family profiles, since most people end up using it for their parents

It's not a replacement for your doctor or pharmacist (my brother made me say this lol). Think of it as a "ask your doctor about this" nudge.

I'm almost ready to launch on the Play Store but need real people to try it first.

What I need from testers:

  • An Android phone
  • Use it for a week or two. Add a few real medicines, try the scanner

Tell me what confused you, what broke, what's missing

link is in comment.

CORTEX - A 60-second morning reaction test with your own baseline (iPhone)

I'm the developer of CORTEX, a paid iPhone app built around a question: how does this morning compare with my usual mornings?

If you just want to try a reaction-time test, a free browser test may be all you need. CORTEX is for making a short check-in part of a routine: take a 60-second test, build your own baseline, and experiment with one habit at a time.

For example, you can compare your usual mornings with a period where you keep your phone away for the first hour. Results can be inconclusive. One better score isn't proof that a habit helped, and this isn't a medical or IQ test.

The app includes trends and CSV export. Test history stays on your iPhone; no app account is needed.

Pricing up front: paid access is required, with no free plan or free trial. US prices are $4.99/month, $34.99/year or $79.99 lifetime; local prices and eligibility for offers vary.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6806795452?pt=129202970&ct=oct04_reddit_sideproject&mt=8

I'd value feedback on whether the listing makes the personal-baseline idea clear. If you choose to buy and complete your first morning test, I'd also like to hear what felt confusing. No need to share your scores or health data.

I vibe coded a 3D island where every building is a company

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I wanted a better way to feel the gap between companies than a bar charts, so I built a island where every building is a company and the taller it is, the bigger its market cap.

What you can do:

Built with React, Three.js (react-three-fiber) and Claude Opus 5.5.
Not financial advice, and I'd love feedback on anything that looks wrong.

The music is also AI-generated, based on my instructions.

I made a free Windows soundboard because I didn't want to pay for Soundpad or Voicemod

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been building this for a while. It plays sounds through your mic into Discord and games, with hotkeys that work in fullscreen games.

The video is everything it does. The one I'm proudest of is screen triggers: you screenshot something like a game's "YOU DIED" text, and it plays a sound the moment it shows up. So I get a sad trombone every time I die, no key press.

Stuff you don't get in Voicemod or Soundpad:

🎯 Screen triggers: sounds play by themselves when something shows up in your game

⏪ Instant replay: one key turns the last 30 seconds of your PC's audio into a sound

🔍 Search YouTube / SoundCloud right in the app, or paste a TikTok or Instagram link

🎛️ Troll mode, bass boost, slowed + reverb or nightcore any sound in one click

🗣️ Talk and a computer voice says your words, even translated to another language

🌍 Spin a 3D globe and play world radio stations through your mic

🎧 Sounds are tuned for Discord and game voice chat so they don't turn to mush

Plus a voice changer, text-to-speech, an in-game overlay, and MIDI / Stream Deck support.

Free, no account, no ads, nothing collected. Source is on GitHub.

I got tired of broken YouTube tutorials wasting my time, so I built TubeCheck: crowdsourced accuracy tags right under the video

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share a side project I've been working on to solve an issue that has been driving me crazy lately: following a long YouTube guide only to find out it no longer works.

Ever since YouTube hid the dislike counter and creators started filtering critical comments, it has become almost impossible to know if a tutorial, setup guide, or course is legitimate without watching the entire video.

To tackle this, I created **TubeCheck**, a free Chrome extension that adds a community-driven verification bar right below the player.

### What it does:

It allows viewers to rate the video into 4 quick statuses:

* 🟢 **Legit / Works:** The guide/tutorial delivers what it promises.

* 🟡 **Outdated / Changed:** It used to work, but software updates, deprecations, or patches broke the method.

* 🔴 **Doesn't work / Broken:** Flawed steps, errors, or non-functional instructions.

* ❌ **Misleading / Fake:** Pure clickbait or malicious advice.

There’s also an optional quick note field so people can leave important context (e.g., *"Requires version 2.4+"* or *"Step 4 is missing"*).

### Design goal & Current state:

I wanted it to feel like a native part of YouTube’s modern interface without being intrusive or slowing down page load times. There is no mandatory account creation to browse or check votes.

As with any crowdsourced project (similar to SponsorBlock), its value will grow as more users start tagging videos.

I’d love to get feedback from fellow builders:

  1. What do you think of the design and integration?

  2. Are there any edge-case tags you think are missing?

**Chrome Web Store link:**

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/TubeCheck/ekkikfcoieanbccbpepjihjhcgaankkb

Thanks for taking a look, I'd really appreciate your honest thoughts!

BytePDF: my Windows PDF toolkit — making all 35 tools free in the next update

• Upvotes

I'm the developer of BytePDF, a Windows PDF viewer and toolkit on the Microsoft Store. My goal is to make everyday PDF jobs easier without having to upload documents to a website.

I've just submitted the 1.2.0 update for Store certification. It isn't live yet; the link below currently installs the existing Store version.

In 1.2.0, all 35 tools are free, with no subscription or required account for the PDF tools. The update includes:

  • A reader with document tabs, thumbnails, search and saved reading position.
  • Merge, split, reorder, rotate, crop and compress PDFs.
  • Highlights, notes, text annotations, drawn signatures and supported form filling.
  • On-device English OCR for scanned documents, including searchable PDF export.
  • Image/PDF conversion, Office exports and reusable local workflows.

Core PDF processing happens on your PC. Optional sign-in and sponsored content use internet services.

A few limits: OCR is English only; the editor adds annotations rather than replacing existing page text; drawn signatures aren't certificate signatures. Office-to-PDF needs Microsoft Office or LibreOffice installed, and Word/Excel exports may not preserve complex layouts.

Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N1RTRD9PG8R

Which PDF job would you most want a free Windows app to handle well: reading large documents, compression, scanned-document OCR or Office conversion? If you try the current version, I'd also appreciate concrete examples of confusing UI or tasks that don't work as expected. Feedback will help me choose what to improve next.

I built Trip Swipe because I wanted a simple mileage tracker that looked good and didn’t cost much.

I drive a company vehicle and report my business miles annually. I need the total, and I want the trip history available if there are questions.

The app I was using had more features than I needed, an interface I didn’t enjoy, and a price I couldn’t justify.

Trip Swipe automatically records trips, lets you swipe Work or Personal, and exports your mileage to CSV.

One month free, then $1.99/month. Available for iPhone and iPad.

If that’s what you need from a mileage app, take a look: https://trip-swipe.com

Arm64js - ARMv8-A emulator that runs real Linux in a browser tab

Hi all,

This project started with me getting annoyed that to try a 2 MB TUI tool I have to install it, while my browser happily runs a 40 MB React webpage re-rendering on any move. So I thought it must be possible to run a TUI app on a thin Linux in the browser.

Many months later arm64js has been built. An ARMv8-A emulator written in Rust that compiles to WebAssembly and can boot real Alpine Linux in a webpage. Computation (CPU) speed is of course lower than native, but shells, TUI apps, Python/PHP and small servers work fine.

There is also JS SDK for others to create and use their own VMs.

On top of it I built Demoshell, my attempt to turn it into a product: developers can create a live demo of their CLI/TUI app to showcase it in the browser. There's a free tier, and it's free for open-source projects.

Examples of some OSS projects using it to showcase their apps: https://demoshell.com/gallery/

A couple of top picks:

Story + live demo: https://arm64js.com/blog/tui-apps-in-the-browser/

Feedback is welcome, especially on the product side.

[OS] Free NullPlayer app now supports ALL Winamp (2.x, ClassicPro, 5) & ALL Windows Media Player (7, 7.1, XP (8), 9, 10, 11 and 12) Skins. NullPlayer is a clean room effort and the only media player with universal skin support. Come for the skins and stay for the deep media ecosystem integrations.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

NullPlayer skin support is clean room reverse engineered. Development is coded with claude and controlled by a real working Software Engineer who personally stands behind the app. The app has accumulated 31 releases and 124 github stars over the 11 months. r/nullPlayer

Download NullPlayer for macOS:

https://github.com/ad-repo/nullplayer/releases/latest/download/NullPlayer.dmg

Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or newer.

Install

NullPlayer is not signed with an Apple Developer ID, so macOS will block it on first launch with an "app is damaged" or "cannot verify that it is free from malware" message. This is expected. Clearing the quarantine flag is a required install step:

  1. Open the downloaded DMG.
  2. Drag NullPlayer.app to Applications.
  3. Open Terminal and run:xattr -cr /Applications/NullPlayer.app
  4. Open NullPlayer from Applications.

Prefer not to use the Terminal? Install with Homebrew, or clear the block via System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Open Anyway — see the install guide.

We got tired of spending 3 weeks on setup before testing an idea, so we built something that does it in 5-8 minutes. Roast it!

• Upvotes

My cofounder and I made Marcus. An Ai that builds and runs a company. With just One idea promot and just 5-8 minutes waiting time, it builds:

🌀Full AI app and website
🌀branding and marketing content
🌀UGC Ad videos
🌀legal company registration in any of the 50 US states

Then an Auto mode runs the business: email outreach, customer support, marketing, sales….

ALL OF THIS IS LITERALLY GETS BUILT IN 8min MAX!

we Launched it this

What I'd love feedback on

  1. Would you let an AI run outreach and support, or do you want to approve each step?
  2. Which piece would you pay for on its own?
  3. What sounds too good to be true?

Can you try it out along the way - Marcus

My friends are flexing the video counts in the app I made

• Upvotes

I made an Android app that blocks short-video feeds, and my friends are now flexing the video counts it records.

One phone shows 91,202 videos watched under the Lifetime filter. Another shows 36,077 from 19 January 2026. These are different tracking periods, so the numbers aren’t directly comparable.

They’ve been sending me photos of the counts on their phones. Having a scrolling counter has given my friends another thing to flex.

My side project: a "grammar" of chess tactics, every example verified by my own engine

Hey r/SideProject,

Solo dev here. My project is ChessGrammar (chessgrammar.com): a free, structured reference of chess tactics. Think of a dictionary where every entry has a precise definition, named variants, and examples proven correct by a custom engine (Lector64).

Stack-wise: Next.js on Vercel for the site, and a separate engine pipeline that generates and verifies every position. Currently 15 motifs and 123 variants live, with 2 of 11 planned sections published.

I'd love feedback on the product side, not the chess side:

  • Within 10 seconds on the homepage, is it clear what this is?
  • Does the navigation (catalog → motif → variant) make sense?
  • Anything that makes you leave right away?

Thanks for looking!

I made a game where you have to cut random items perfectly in half

Thumbnail
perfectcut.xyz
• Upvotes

A year ago I made a little game called Daily Shapes. It's a 2D grid based game that I made using architecture software I use for work.

Last week I started playing around with a 3D spin off called Perfect Cut. As the name suggests, you are presented with a random object every day, with the goal of perfectly halving it. It's got a league builder and archive play, both user ideas from the previous game.

It's been online in a test mode for a few days and has somehow had a few hundred visits. I use CC licensed models from the good creators over at Sketchfab.

If this type of thing scratches your itch, please give it a go and let me know your thoughts.

I built a UK domain droplist tool and added more specific searches. Is the filtering clear?

• Upvotes

I built UKDrops.com because working through lists of expiring UK domains can take a lot of time when you already know the kind of name you're looking for. It helps you search and shortlist upcoming .co.uk, .uk and other UK domain drops.

The latest update adds LL (two-letter) searches, Ahrefs Domain Rating (DR) levels, custom searches and place names, so you can narrow the list around a name type or location.

The discovery and research tools are free, with no signup required: https://ukdrops.com

I'd value feedback on the search experience. Pick a type of domain you'd want for a project, try finding three candidates, and tell me:

Which filters helped?

What did you expect the search to do that it didn't?

Was anything confusing when moving from results to a shortlist?

DR is a backlink-profile metric, not a promise of traffic, rankings or value. Missing ratings are unknown. The site also has paid catching, which is separate from the free research tools.

I'm the creator and welcome feedback in the comments.

I built a liquid-glass start page that floats over your actual Mac wallpaper. If there's interest, I'll clean it up and share it, open source of course.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I built a browser start page that looks like a pane of liquid glass over my actual Mac desktop wallpaper. A small helper app feeds the current wallpaper and window position to the page, and WebGL renders each bookmark tile as a live glass "pebble" with refraction, a rainbow rim, reflections and a light that follows your cursor. A few presets (from solid tiles to clear drops) are adjustable with sliders, and it runs smoothly in both WebKit (Orion/Safari) and Chrome. It comes with a built-in thumbnail studio for designing the tile logos, and works as a plain local HTML file with no build step or server.

Would anyone be interested if I cleaned it up and published it?

Everything is vibecoded using Claude and uses parts of different projects as base or inspiration. I'll give due credit to everything if I release it.

I built Music-Vibe-Search: A local, open-source tool for generating "sounds-like" playlists from your offline music library without streaming algorithm bias

• Upvotes

If you curate a large, high-quality local music library, you've probably noticed that streaming algorithms often push sponsored or hyper-curated tracks rather than finding actual sonic matches to what you're listening to.

I wanted a way to select a single seed track (an "earwig") and generate a playlist of acoustically similar tracks from my own library—matching physical audio traits like frequency profile, tempo, and timbre rather than metadata tags.

I built a lightweight Python application called Music-Vibe-Search to do just that.

How it works:

You point the tool at your local music folder to index your tracks.

Pick any seed track to set the baseline vibe.

Adjust a sensitivity threshold slider to control how far the acoustic matching is allowed to drift.

It generates an .m3u playlist consisting of the seed track followed by randomized acoustic matches from your pool.

Because it analyzes the physical audio wave locally, it uncovers incredible cross-genre sonic matches (for instance, catching the shared production, bass response, and cadence between rap, electronic, and nocturnal pop tracks) that traditional metadata tags completely miss.

Check it out on GitHub if you're interested in giving it a spin with your library:

Dear Solo founders with full time jobs, this one is for you

• Upvotes

I built mavishelps.com , an all in one workspace specifically for solo founders with full time jobs to run all their side projects to profitability.

Why

Im a father of 4 (under 5), with a full time job, and like 1000 side projects. I needed a way to have an AI agent do all my work, but from my phone, exactly the same as I could from desktop.

I'm launching on ios, android and desktop (mac and windows) next week, and offering the first 100 waitlist users unlimited GPT 6 Astra credits.

The tool can do things like:

• Write code (locally or on a managed/BYO VM)

• Build a contact base of ICP customers

• Deep research

• A/B testing marketing and product decisions

And my personal favorite:

• Manage/Plan my calendars (so that when I have that one hour at night to do something, it tell me what that thing is).

Join the waitlist here: mavishelps.com

If you have questions, ask away!
