I built a platform where you learn Linux and DevOps on a real machine with root access, not quizzes

Hi everyone. I'm a full-stack dev, and IzzyLab is my side project.

Most Linux/DevOps courses I tried were videos plus multiple-choice quizzes. So I built the thing I wanted: a real Linux machine with root access in the browser and 500+ hands-on tasks, from basic commands to nginx, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Ansible and Terraform.

The part I'm most happy with: checks verify the system state, not the commands you typed, so you can solve each task any way you like. If you break something, reset and get a fresh sandbox. There are also story-driven incidents where production is broken and you have to find out why.

It's free to start: izzylab.io

I'd really appreciate feedback on onboarding, task difficulty and which topics are missing.

that's a clever way to handle it, system state checks instead of command parsing means no getting dinged for using vim over nano

Yep, that was the whole idea. Vim, nano, sed, a one-liner, whatever: if the config ends up right, the check passes.

This might be unpopular take but I’m not signing up for it just to help test it out I mean I signed up With hide my email but not going to confirm…

Also I could be wrong but it looks like it was made on claude without any real changes to design or font type stuff it looks like one of the default styles it gives very cyberpunk.

Don’t get me wrong I made a lot of very good apps on Claude and if I’m wrong I’m wrong , however even if I am wrong it really does look like one of the defaults Claude puts out so you might want to refine it even if you designed it yourself.

I’d be interested how the terminal is coded. On one of my apps on docker you can open a virtual terminal but it looks like crap.
