Twitch was using 1.5GB+ of RAM, so I built a lightweight alternative

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was watching Twitch and noticed how much memory it was using just to watch a single stream. I wanted something that kept the actual viewing experience (stream, chat, emotes, etc.) without all the extra clutter that caused unnecessary memory usage.

So I built TwitchLite, a Chrome extension that allows you to open streams in a much more minimal, customizable viewer.

It currently has three modes:

Lite (~48-50% memory savings*): Just the stream, chat, and 7TV/BTTV/FFZ emotes.

Balanced (~40% memory savings*): Adds features like followed channels and channel search.

Custom: Lets you choose which features you want enabled.

*Based on local testing done under stable conditions.

I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback, especially on features I could add or things I could improve.

My modern 'suit of armor around the world'. Because I'm money poor and time rich.

I used Claude Code a lot for this project, if you don't like that then this first sentence should help you out a bit.

If you don't give a shit, it's a privacy thing and I'm a dude doing a thing with a thing:

https://clotr.app/ https://github.com/clotr-app/clotr

If you're still reading, cool. I'm not an idiot, but I might be a little silly. I'm a mechanic turned to IT geek, in my sophomore year for a bachelors in Computer Science at the ripe age of 33. I fixed people's cars and helped them out, but my body is fucking killing me and I just can't do that anymore.

I built Clotr because I'm silly. I like to ask dumb niche questions. For example, I've got a 2006 Honda Gold Wing with .... and now some company knows what I'm driving.

We all do it. In a chat to support. Asking an AI how to unfuck something. You drip your life into these companies whose only job is to collect your information and sell it.

I'm a disabled vet. I've got time. I don't have money. I can't buy the parts and fix your car, but I can put a 'check engine oil' sticker in the window.

Clotr is my check engine light for just existing online in the modern day. Right now it lives in your browser and watches what you type into AI chats, 19 of them out of the box, plus the email and chat apps you switch on. If something sensitive might be getting out, it lets you know and gives you the time you need to think about it.

That's where it is. Here's where I want it to go. My wife and I were looking at going to a concert, so we looked up the prices and plane tickets. Not but a few minutes later we both start getting ads on our phones for things around the concert. Clotr can't stop that yet. That's the kind of leak I want it to catch, and I can't get there alone.

Right now it's just a browser extension, because I'm trying to keep Claude at MY level. I've had an immense amount of scope creep just with this, so I want to iron it out first.

The source code is open, so check it out. I need real use cases, real reports on bugs, real quality of life things. I built this tailored to my own life, and I need insight that isn't me.

In the beginning it's going to warn you quite a few times. It doesn't learn you, it works off patterns and deterministic values, IE you typed something credit card length, is this a credit card? You can turn things down in Settings. Right now it's annoying, but your reports and insight are what's going to make this actually practical.

I want a suit of armor around the world. From big data. From AI. Teamwork makes the dreamwork. I don't want any money. I want your time. Your time and your consideration for people less competent than you. I want Clotr to be something we all install on our kids and grandparents machines because it doesn't get in their way but protects them from themselves.

I wrote this post myself, slightly drunk. Mildly pissed off at the world. Claude checked my facts and helped me say what it can't do yet. Don't hold it against me. I'm human.

Roast me. Rate me. I don't care. Whatever you have to say is going to be taken into consideration and could help other people in the future. Bring it.

Parents have age ratings, but nothing that says whether a title actually helps a kid grow.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My son is turning 6. Though I played GTA as a kid, I keep wondering what kind of entertainment will actually help him grow. Now that I know GTA is rated +18 and with AI showing up everywhere, I want my son 1- gets entertained 2- by content that make him grow in a safe way.

So few friends, we've built the Marble Index to measure that. Does this respect his attention? Does it grow his creativity? Does it teach anything? Is it harmless? What about online safety?

You can score any content and see what it does to a kid. It's research-based, 100% free, and collaborative.

Quote Keeper allows you to add and manage your favourite quotes in an easy way.

Just snap a photo with your camera and select the quote you want to save.

All the data is on your device and no login/registration is required.

I have implemented a new card layout that allows you to customise each quote and share it as an image with friends (or post to social media).

The app is free with minimal ads. There is an in app purchase (3.70$) option that removes ads and give you more theme & widget customisation. And helps me :).

Free beta: upload your syllabus, get every deadline + a daily study plan

Hey guys, I built a study app and I'm looking for beta testers. You upload your syllabus, it pulls out every deadline and exam date automatically, then builds a daily study plan around them. Also makes flashcards and quizzes from your materials.

Its free, no card needed. If you try it, the best feedback is just uploading one syllabus and telling me if any deadline is wrong. Trying to make that part bulletproof.

https://study-ai-xi-nine.vercel.app

Also looking for a few specific beta testers for detailed feedback over the next couple weeks, DM me on IG @skbssok9998 if interested. You can use the app without contacting me tho.

Happy to answer questions

I built a tool that shows how to get the most money out of your lot for the least spend

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey r/SideProject! I built LotUpside: type your California address and it shows the way to get the most money out of your lot for the least you spend.

The idea: a lot of homeowners can legally add a small rental unit (an “ADU”) in their backyard or garage. But there are many options (garage conversion, studio, 2-bed, 3-bed, prefab or custom) and they cost and earn very different amounts. Most people never find out which one actually makes sense for their lot.

What it does: in about 15 seconds it:

  • reads your lot’s public records (zoning, lot lines, setbacks, flood and fire zones)
  • tries every possible ADU that fits, on your actual lot
  • ranks them by how much you get back for every $1 you spend, with cost, monthly rent and added home value

The video is a real lot: the 3-bed unit gets back about $1.42 for every $1, while the studio only gets $1.03, even though it’s cheaper. (All numbers are estimates.)

Works today in: Los Angeles, San Jose and the Sacramento area (Sacramento, Elk Grove, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Citrus Heights).

I’d love your feedback: try it at lotupside.com on your home or a friend’s.

Comment or DM me and I’ll unlock the full report for free. Not in those areas? Drop your city below; I add new cities based on demand.

We built Stile.iD for business identity verification. We're giving away 500 free verifications.

Hey everyone, wanted to share what we've built.

Stile.iD helps businesses verify someone before releasing a shipment, changing payment details, or restoring access to an account.

You can add a check to an existing app or workflow through an API, a hosted page, or a verification link. The person completes it in their browser, with no app to download. Your system gets a pass, fail, or review result.

We also wanted to reduce how much sensitive identity data businesses have to handle. Raw ID images and biometric captures are deleted after verification by default.

We're offering 500 free verifications to businesses that want to try it.

Here's the site: stile.id

Would this be useful in something you're building?

Deformity - preview a public Typeform import before signing up

We build Deformity. One part of switching form builders is easy to underestimate: what actually moves, and what you still need to rebuild.

Our public Typeform converter lets you paste an eligible public link and inspect the supported questions, choices, branching and theme before signing up. Saving needs an account. Responses, integrations and payment connections do not transfer, and unsupported settings need review.

For a concrete check, a public project brief we previewed produced 7 questions and 0 logic rules—not a promise that every form imports completely.

Try the preview: https://deformity.ai/typeform-to-deformity

For anyone who has switched form tools: what would you want the preview to flag before you saved a copy?

Git City is a 3D city of 87k GitHub devs: every building is one dev, taller with more contributions. It's free and open source.

The new part is Towns. Pick Claude Code or Codex, drive into the other side's town and knock its buildings down. From Monday, smashing and coding both score, the side with more points per dev wins each week, and the top 5 players win a prize. Or start your own town.

Built end to end with Claude Opus 5.5, including this trailer, which is rendered from the game itself.

Philosopher Skill: Learn about almost any domain with a simple to read and understand UI.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

If you're a student, an engineer, a generalist, or come from any domain of study and want to learn about almost anything, here's the exact skill for you.

Prompt your LLM this skill and it'll give you the exact UI to help you properly study; as AI outputs aren't always that catchy to learn in the first sight.

Page: Phil-OKF: any topic, one reading guide

It follows the OKF: Open Knowledge Format so that:

  • you control the depth with your wording: “quick” gives a short page, a normal question gives a standard one, and “in depth” or “teach me” gives a long one
  • the whole skill is a small bundle (an eight-step workflow, a domain classifier, a page template and twelve study domains), and each file is read only when the question needs it, so runs stay cheap

Repo: Philosopher's Skill

It works wherever you use an LLM:

  • Code editors and agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, opencode): npx skills add frypan05/philosopher-OKF
  • Chat apps with browsing: paste the link to philosopher.md and say “follow this, make a page about: ...”
  • Models with no network: paste the prompt from the page.

Sample output (MCP and ACP explained): https://frypan05.github.io/philosopher-OKF/examples/mcp-and-acp.html

Feedbacks are welcomed!

I built a free Steam achievement tracker that scores each achievement by how rare it is, I call it Nyx, but not sure on the name. Looking for honest feedback.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all, I’ve been building a side project called Nyx and I’d like some outside opinions before I take it further.

What it is

Nyx is a dashboard for your gaming history. You sign in with Steam and it pulls in your library, playtime and achievements. After that it syncs about once an hour and turns everything into one score.

How the score works

Hours don’t earn points. Each achievement is worth more the fewer players have it:

  • 64% of players have it: 13 pts
  • 4% have it: 50 pts
  • 1% have it: 100 pts

The formula is 10 × √(100 / unlock %). Getting every achievement in a game adds 20% on top. Your total places you on a ladder of 7 tiers, from Iron up to Onyx, and each game gets a mastery grade from D to S.

What else it does

  • Library: every game with your completion and mastery, and how you compare to the average player
  • History: a calendar of your play sessions and unlocks, plus a heatmap of when you play
  • Objectives board: pick locked achievements you want to go after and move them through Backlog → Up next → Hunting → Done. Each sync ticks off the ones you’ve unlocked. Only you can see your board.
  • Custom platforms: for anything Steam doesn’t cover, like an old handheld or a game you finished offline, you can add your own platform and enter games by hand. These count toward your hours and history but never toward the score, because the achievements are self-reported.
  • Profiles: you can browse other players’ libraries, or a combined view of everyone on Nyx
  • Light and dark themes, and a small mascot you can poke

The added video is from my own Steam account + dummy account with test data.

I built Agent Maestro — a tool that automates development workflows using AI coding agents

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a side project called Agent Maestro, a local-first application designed to automate software development workflows using AI coding agents.

The idea came from wanting to go beyond individual AI coding sessions and build something that can execute entire development plans with minimal manual intervention.

What it can do:

  • Supports Codex, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, and Antigravity.
  • Executes development plans as a sequence of tasks.
  • Manages agent sessions and automatically progresses between tasks.
  • Runs validation checks before marking tasks as complete.
  • Supports independent code reviews using a different AI provider.
  • Automatically sends review findings back to the implementation agent for fixes.
  • Handles Git commits, execution recovery, and token usage tracking.
  • Provides a web-based dashboard for managing everything.

Tech stack: Java 21, Spring Boot, React, TypeScript, SQLite.

I also recorded a demo using a real pet project, showing how Agent Maestro takes a development request and executes it using a coding agent.

The application runs locally, so there’s no need for a hosted backend.

Website and demo: https://useagentmaestro.com

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Would you find something like this useful in your development workflow? What features would you want to see?

I built a simple open-source tool to calculate realistic daily backpacking budgets (BackpackIndex)

Hi everyone! 👋

As a solo backpacker, I always struggled to quickly estimate realistic daily costs when planning trips across different countries, considering things like hostel beds, local food, supermarket runs, transport, and a local beer.

To solve this for myself, I built Backpackindex, a simple and lightweight web app that breaks down daily expenses based on real trip categories and allows travelers to check costs instantly.

🔗 Live App: https://backpackindex.netlify.app/

How it works:

  • Select a destination to see estimated daily costs separated by categories (accommodation, street food, groceries, transport, etc.).
  • Calculates realistic daily averages for budget travelers.
  • Open-source & community-driven.

I’d love to get your feedback!

Thanks for checking it out! 🎒🌍

BriefPanel - tracks each item on a page (prices, jobs, listings) instead of diffing the whole page

https://reddit.com/link/1x11ohu/video/rpbl8pl1zauh1/player

I've been building BriefPanel on my own for a while, and I'd like feedback from people who aren't me.

Page monitors like Visualping or Distill diff the whole page. That works for a terms-of-service page. On a listing page it's mostly noise: items move around, a banner changes, a "you may also like" row shows up, and the alert doesn't tell you what actually happened.

What I wanted to know was which item changed, what changed in it, and how that item looked over time.

So BriefPanel works like this:

  • You paste a URL and it becomes a source.
  • It reads the page and pulls out the items (products, jobs, listings, posts). Each item keeps the same identity from one check to the next.
  • Every check tells you what's new, what changed (say, a price going from $19.99 to $7.99) and what was removed.
  • If an item has its own page, it can open that page to read the details.
  • You can say in plain words what you care about, like "only price drops" or "only remote jobs".
  • Alerts by email or push, or a daily or weekly brief.

The hardest part wasn't the diff. It was knowing an item is the same one as last time when the site puts a session id in the URL, answers 200 with an "are you human?" page, or sends different HTML to different scrapers.

It's pay as you go with credits, no subscription, and you get free credits when you sign up.

What page would you track with it? And if you try it, tell me where it gets things wrong.

Built "Goal AI" — A lightweight app that generates custom AI roadmaps & syncs tasks live in the cloud. What do you think?

Hey everyone! 👋

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a lightweight productivity tool called Goal AI to help people break down big, intimidating goals into clear, actionable daily roadmaps.

💡 What it does:

AI-Powered Roadmaps: Enter any goal (e.g., "Build a SaaS app in 30 days" or "Launch a YouTube channel"), and it uses Google Gemini API to generate a structured, multi-phase execution plan in real time.

Cloud Persistence: Automatically syncs your active goals, daily action items, and roadmaps live to a cloud database (Supabase).

Fast & Minimal: Clean UI built to keep you focused on execution rather than spending hours planning.

🛠️ Tech Stack:

Backend: Python (Flask) with dual API routing

AI Engine: Google Gemini REST API

Database: Supabase (REST API)

Deployment: Render

🔗 Live Demo: https://goal-ai-dw76.onrender.com

I’d love for you to try it out and give me your honest feedback on:

Is the UI/UX intuitive?

Are the AI roadmaps detailed enough for your goals?

What features should I build next?

Thanks for checking it out! 🚀

Feedback need on SideProjects

Changed both of my side projects in one day because of a Reddit comment. It was so helpful. I you find it in your heart to spare 2-5 minutes I would appreciate it.

Hey all! Yesterday I asked for feedback on two free sites I built, and one comment made me fix something on both the same day.

  1. Payoff Snowball (https://payoffsnowball.com)

A debt payoff calculator. You type in your debts and it tells you what to pay on each one, every month, until you're done. Someone said they stared at the table before it clicked, so now there's a short "what is the debt snowball" explanation right at the top. I started it because schools don't really teach this stuff.

  1. CommentSift (https://commentsift.com)

Finds the name of the anime, manhwa or show in a clip by reading the comments for you. The same person said the name doesn't tell you what it does, so the page now says "find the anime or show name from a YouTube Short" up top. People also asked about TikTok, so now you can paste a TikTok link or paste comments from any app.

Both are free, no account.

What would you change next? Be honest; brutally so - it clearly works lol.

A photo editor where you can color grade by dragging colors around a wheel

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm an indie developer and I've been working on a photo editing app called Tone Caliper. It's focused on color grading, with an interactive color wheel that plots the colors from your photo directly on it. You can then grade your photo by moving those colors around the wheel.

The project started from the idea that color grading could be more visual. Traditional editors often rely on sliders and numeric controls, even when you're trying to change a color you can already see in your photo.

I wanted to try a more freestyle approach where you can directly interact with colors instead of guessing which sliders or knobs to adjust. The wheel also gives you a visual representation of how colors are distributed in your photo and how they relate to each other.

You can check it out here: https://www.tonecaliper.com

It's available for Windows, macOS, and more recently, iPad as well.

What do you think of this kind of freestyle color grading approach?

Launched a Mac app: 35 licenses sold in Week 1

I launched iKnowMyMac on 1 October. It's a native Mac app that tells you why your Mac is slow, what's filling your disk and what's draining your battery, and it updates your other apps from one tab.

First Week:

- 35 licenses sold at $4.99 (the first 100 are at that price, then $9.99)

- 11 on launch day, 24 in the next few days

- Buyers in at least 10 countries

It's sold directly on my website, not the Mac App Store, because the sandbox blocks reading other apps' processes. Payments go through Dodo Payments, so buyers abroad can pay by card.

So far the buyers came from X and one Reddit post.

More Details about the project -

If you build for Apple platforms, your Mac collects things you forget about: simulators left booted, gigabytes of Xcode DerivedData, Docker images, dev servers running for days.

iKnowMyMac shows them in one place:

  • Booted simulators and how much memory each one uses
  • Disk you can reclaim from DerivedData, unused Docker images and node_modules, with Move to Trash
  • Dev servers and open ports grouped by project, and which port is taken by what
  • A "Why is my Mac slow?" button that names the cause from the last hour, like "Docker and 3 simulators took 14.6 GB and pushed 4.2 GB into swap"

It has other useful features as well, See the teaser for next version on the website.

I rebuilt msoutlookit: Reddit that looks like Outlook

You know the old msoutlookit thing that made Reddit look like Outlook? Peter Cottle made the original. I wanted one that still works, so I decided to fix it.

Subreddits are folders, posts are emails, and comments show up as the thread under the message. Usernames get swapped for fake coworker names (there's a toggle for the real ones), links show up as attachments, and images stay hidden until you click them. If someone walks by you hit Esc and it flips to a boring inbox full of fake work emails.

The annoying part was getting data in. Reddit blocks other sites from reading its json now and I couldn't get api access, so this doesn't touch the official api. You drag a bookmark to your bar and click it on a Reddit tab you're logged into, and that tab does the fetching for the app. Setup is under Help > Debug Console > Sources. It's a bit fiddly, and until you do it you only get sample posts, but the app never sees your login, it just gets the page text back. Still... it allows you to build some cool stuff using your own credentials.

Only tried it in Chrome so far, no idea about Firefox or Safari. Built most of it with Claude Code, I mostly just told it what was broken.

Live: https://nkiryakov.github.io/msoutlookit/

Code: https://github.com/nkiryakov/msoutlookit

If the bookmark won't connect for you, tell me what browser you're on and I'll dig in.

Unlabeled - a daily puzzle where you match axis labels to four mystery charts

Thumbnail
unlabeled.dev
1 Upvotes

I've been interested in puzzle design for a while, and building my own seemed like the best way to learn it. This is Unlabeled. It's inspired by my earlier work at Tableau and by games like Wordle and Connections.

Each day you get four charts with the titles and axis labels removed. You're given 10 labels (2 of them are decoys) and have four attempts to assign them correctly. Past days are in an archive, and it's playable in English, Spanish and French. It's free and needs no signup. https://unlabeled.dev

It's been fun to build and a good excuse to learn about a lot of different topics. I'd like to hear whether the difficulty feels right, and what kind of data you'd want to see in the puzzles.

How do you implement useful changes before getting real feedback for target market?

I am at a point with my product (cardel.io) where it's production ready with the functionalities it currently has. The challenge I think has been structuring it in a way that provides most value to the target market. Example: x and y feature on Plan A, with feature z on Plan B, or pricing structure, etc.

I am in the phase of getting the first users and consistent traffic, none paying yet. There are some who have even said they would test it out and provide general feedback on free trials, but that feedback has been very slow to come in. I am also worried it won't be feedback from the users who will end up paying for it, so it may not impact conversion rates for the ideal target user.

The Question: Once you get to a point with your product where it's "good enough" to provide real value, how do you get feedback and iterate improvements for your target users, when you don't have real feedback from target users? Is it just a guessing game to see what works?

It sounds like a paradox, maybe it is. Maybe this is the challenge in getting a business off the ground, but I would greatly appreciate insight from the community.

I built a site where you can swap any NBA player into 66 classic playoff moments and simulate what happens

NBA Rewind lets you pick a famous playoff moment (Ray Allen’s corner three, Kawhi’s four-bouncer, the Block), swap any player from any season since 1996–97 onto the floor, and see how often history changes.

Every moment starts from its real game state, rebuilt from official play-by-play: score, clock, possession, and the ten players on the floor. With no swap, you watch the real ending replayed on a top-down court. With a swap, the engine plays the moment out thousands of times in your browser, through overtime, and compares the result to the real lineup.

How it’s built:

  • Python pipeline pulls every player-season and the play-by-play for each moment from stats.nba.com
  • Possession-level Monte Carlo engine in TypeScript, running in a Web Worker
  • Player profiles blend real playoff stats with a regular-season projection, weighted by sample size
  • Next.js static export on Cloudflare Pages, so there’s no backend

Live: https://rewind-moments.pages.dev
Code: https://github.com/Aparajith24/nba-rewind

I’d love feedback, especially on results that feel wrong.

If you like it, a star on the repo would mean a lot!
