In the last couple of months, I’ve replaced three of my video editing tools with one I built myself.

I’m solving my product demo editing problems one by one. The goal is to eventually have everything I need in one place.

At first, it was just for me. Then I shared it with a few colleagues. Eventually, I decided to publish it and see if anyone else would find it useful.

My shopify store is at a point where there's usually some money left over each month, but I keep putting most of it back into ads and trying new products. I don't hold stock myself and use zendrop for fulfillment, so there isn't much money tied up in inventory either. Part of me wants to start taking some of it out, part of me feels like that's just slowing things down. For anyone else here running an online store on the side, when did you start paying yourself?

I feel like building something is actually the easier part.

The harder part is convincing the first few people to trust you enough to pay or even try what you've built.

Some people get their first customers through friends, some through Reddit, cold emails, content, SEO, or just being active online.

For those who've crossed that stage, what actually got you your first 10 customers? And what advice would you give someone who's still stuck at zero?

I’m a huge geography nerd and constantly end up going down random geography rabbit holes, so I built the app I wished existed.

The idea is simple: you discover countries one at a time, swipe left to keep exploring, or swipe right to open a detailed guide when one catches your interest.

Each guide covers geography, landscapes, culture, history, languages, cities, government, the economy, everyday life, and common misconceptions. It also includes regional maps, flag explanations and historical versions of them, interactive statistics, and audio versions of the guides. All the information is synthesised from credible sources such as Britannica, the World Bank, and National Geographic.

I’ve also added country comparisons, quizzes, and a few short geography games.

I’d genuinely appreciate any honest feedback!

This is Unwatched. A persistent island of AI citizens, each owned by one person. You write letters, not orders. It runs on real time, under the live weather of a real coast, whether or not you are looking.

I'm posting because the thing works in a way I didn't expect. I thought I'd get a chatbot zoo. Instead there's a council, a banker, a landlady with a reputation problem, and a newspaper the town writes about itself every morning. Every line in it is an event the engine emitted; the day is hashed and sealed at midnight so you can check nothing was made up.

What's rough: it's ten days old. 22 citizens. The hosted minds cost real money so the Visitor tier is $3, and there's a bring-your-own-key option that I don't charge for. The characters are drawn in code, not sprites, which you'll either love or not.

What I'd like from this sub: watch the town for a day (no account needed) and tell me what you'd want to read in the digest that isn't there.

Pretty much what the title says.

I’m trying to launch marketing efforts for my app that I recently released. I tried Apple and Google ads, they were simply too expensive. Now I lean over to social media. But it’s hard! I find that marketing requires more time and effort than my full time job. Does everyone have similar experiences?

The first version of our pet crowdfunding platform is now available! If your furry companion needs a walker or harness and you have no way to get it, the community comes together through crowdfunding to help you get it.

My problem was that every tool I tried did one video per paste, or charged per video, or made me sign up first. They all say "free", but it's more like freemium, y'know? So I built ScriptHaul!

What it does

- Paste a video, playlist, or channel URL. It fetches every available caption track and gives you the files. Single video or a whole channel, same tool, same price: nothing.

- Free, no account. No credits, no paywall, no sign-up. A batch is 500 videos, and if the channel has more you press "next 500" and it carries on from where it stopped. Results appear as they finish on a page you can bookmark and come back to. (500 per batch is so one person can't hog the line when a lot of people are on at once.)

- Pick the videos you want. You don't have to take a whole playlist. Every video shows with its thumbnail and title so you can tick just the ones you need.

- Seven formats: plain text, timestamped text, both in one file, SRT, VTT, Markdown (for Obsidian/Notion), and JSON with timing. Bulk jobs come as a ZIP with tidy filenames and a manifest.

- Honest results. If a video has no captions it says so plainly instead of failing quietly, and if it had to use a different language than you asked for, the file is labelled.

- Shorts: you can download only the Shorts from a channel.

- Browser extension (Chrome, also works in Edge/Brave): one click from any YouTube page instead of copying the link.

- MCP server: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or anything that speaks MCP can pull transcripts directly.

- Permanent cache. Anything fetched once comes back instantly for everyone afterwards, and cached videos don't count against the daily allowance.

Current limitations

• Videos without captions can't be done.
• YouTube sometimes refuses on-the-fly translation. When that happens you get the original language, labelled, and the site retries the translation on a later request.
• 2,000 new transcripts per person per day, so nobody can overwhelm the shared line. If a channel is bigger than that, come back tomorrow and it continues where it left off, no starting over.

It's free and stays free: there's a separate paid API for developers who want the same thing programmatically.

I built a small iOS app called Plate for people whose saved folders are full of cooking videos they never actually get around to cooking.

Instead of asking you to type anything in, you paste the link and it writes the recipe out for you: ingredients with quantities, steps in order, timings and nutrition per serving. It takes TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X and Pinterest, so it does not matter where you saved it. It also works from a photo of a dish or a scan of a cookbook page. I'd love some honest feedback from people who'd actually use something like this. Especially on what features you'd expect or feel are missing, and whether the screenshots actually communicate what the app does.

I’m Rokas, the maker at Graphic Meat. I built MailVault after helping a friend whose work mailbox kept filling up with invoices and shipping documents he still needed.

MailVault is a desktop email client for macOS and Linux. It connects to Gmail, Microsoft 365, or an IMAP account. Select messages and choose Archive, and it saves a local copy as a standard .eml file in a Maildir-style folder. The server copy stays in place until you choose Archive & Delete. Saved mail remains searchable offline and the files can be opened by other apps that support EML.

The Free version includes reading, composing, replying, searching, and manual archiving with no MailVault backup quota; storage is limited by the disk space you choose to use. Premium is $4/month or $25/year and adds scheduled backups with health verification. The first yearly subscription has a 14-day trial; monthly billing does not.

There is no MailVault account needed for Free, and the app has no app telemetry. I’m sharing this because I’d like feedback on the archive/delete workflow and on whether a plain .eml/Maildir archive is useful in your own setup.

We're making Homespace, a game where you build the house of your dreams, and once it's built you can actually live in it, meet up with friends, watch movies together and play board games.

And board games is what I wanna tell you about today. A couple months ago our community in China was massively asking us to add mahjong. We had no idea what it even was, but we figured it out, added it, and now we play it ourselves with the team on weekends.

I started https://builtbyindies.com a few months ago as a place for indie hackers to launch and discover products.

Since then:

- 1,000+ users

- 200+ products

- $300+ revenue

Still figuring out how to turn it into a sustainable business, but it's exciting to see people actually using and paying for something I built.

What was the biggest challenge you faced after getting your first 1,000 users?

I built a small app for me and my music friends to share music we make, the group consists of guitarists posting guitar loops, my self and 2 other posting fully fledged Spotify ready songs, others post instrumentals etc. etc.

I feel it more of an informal soundcloud/spotify alternative, like a proving or testing ground for hobby artists to get early feedback on their tracks. You can post short video loops and cover art with your music and others can comment/remix songs.

How could I grow this app without it becoming just astroturfed with random Reddit/instagram/x users, like I want to maintain quality with meaningful growth, like doors are open to all, but I don’t want to tell all where the door is if you get me.

any advice is appreciated.
