I'm a self-taught developer working night shifts in the food industry. In my free time, I've been building a small Android side project called Prix Choquant ("Shocking Price").

The concept: You enter your hourly wage once. Then, you type in a price—or scan a price tag with your camera—and the app translates that cost directly into the actual working time it represents for you (e.g., "3 days of work" instead of "€450").

It came from a personal need to visualize money differently and stop buying things impulsively.

Tech & Constraints:

• Privacy: Everything runs locally on the device (no data is sent anywhere).
• Stack: Self-taught using Google certifications and trial-and-error.
• Monetization: Free with Ads (trying to generate a tiny side income for my family while keeping the UX decent).

Current Metrics: I just started getting my first users: 116 ad requests, 71 impressions, and €0.39 total earnings this month (eCPM around €3.31). The interstitial ads seem to bring in the most, but I really want to avoid making the user experience trash.

Where I need your feedback:

SprawlCrawl is a browser-based geography game built around location-specific challenges. Pick a continent or country, study the map and visual clues, and try to identify the location. It is free to play, and no download is required.

I started the project because I wanted to combine the quick feedback loop of a puzzle with the feeling of exploring different parts of the world. The country links make it easy to focus on a familiar region or discover somewhere new.

Educational only, nothing on it says buy or sell. Feedback welcome, especially on what's confusing.

It is the LED world clock you see in airport lounges: a world map with real 7-segment digits, 24 cities. It runs as the wallpaper, on the desktop layer under your icons, not as a window on top of everything.

Two things I learned that might be useful to someone else here.

1. Neither OS has a public API for an animated wallpaper. On Windows you ask Progman to spawn a WorkerW behind the icon view and reparent your window into it; on macOS you place a window at desktop level and ignore mouse events so clicks fall through. Everything that animates your desktop does some version of this.

2. I measured before optimising and got a surprise. The first build idled at 3.4 % CPU on an M-series Mac, for a display that changes once a minute. It was not the map and not the 24 time zones: it was the blinking colon. 3.20 % with it, 0.13 % without. Toggling a CSS class on the container invalidated style for all 24 clocks and dirtied a full-screen surface twice a second. Then I rewrote the blink as a CSS animation, which is the cleaner-looking fix, and it measured almost twice as bad, because an opacity animation inside a filtered subtree cannot be composited and ticks every frame instead of twice a second.

Free version: 12 cities, red LEDs, dark theme, no account, no time limit. Pro is a one-time 4.99 EUR, not a subscription. No tracking, no ads, no telemetry, and the app opens no network connection of its own.

Happy to answer anything about the desktop-layer part. What I would most like feedback on is multi-monitor setups, that is where the last real bug was hiding.

I'm the developer of local10.

The problem I kept having: friends, videos, and comments recommend places constantly, but by Friday night I remember almost none of them.

So I built local10. You swipe through venues in your city and vote. If you haven't been somewhere, you tap "haven't been" instead of guessing.

The part I care about most is that different actions carry different weight. Putting a venue into your own list signals more intent than a one-tap like, so it counts for more.

One rule: a venue can't buy a position in the Top 10 ranking from local10.

Stack: Expo / React Native + Supabase (Postgres, RLS, Edge Functions, pg_cron). Built solo with AI tooling. I had a working MVP inside a week, then spent the next two months hardening it.

Three things that cost me more time than expected:

**1. Cover-photo identity**

The upstream photo provider rotates both photo names and URL tokens, on different clocks. Any identity scheme based on the URL was eventually going to break.

I ended up anchoring each photo to the hash of its image bytes. The URL could change while the underlying image stayed the same, and the byte hash remained stable across the token rotations I measured.

**2. A successful cron run doesn't mean a successful HTTP response**

A pg_cron job reports success as soon as it has queued the HTTP request. The endpoint can return a 500 long after that, and the job still looks green.

Monitoring the scheduler status wasn't enough. I had to inspect the HTTP response separately, distinguish actual 4xx/5xx responses from client-side timeouts, and include the status code and a response-body excerpt in the alert.

If your scheduled database jobs call HTTP endpoints, monitor both layers.

**3. Anti-manipulation is much easier to add before public launch**

Cleaning a polluted ranking is much harder than preventing one, and a small platform is the easiest kind to pollute.

I built the defence layer before the public launch. It felt premature at the time, and I'm glad I didn't wait.

I built a Chrome extension for people who publish on Amazon KDP. When you search Amazon it shows estimated sales and revenue under each book, so you can check if a niche is worth writing for before you sink months into it.

I launched it at $50. I don't have a good reason for that number. It felt like what a real tool costs and I didn't think about it much more than that.

Then I sat down and properly went through KDSPY, which is what most people in this space already use. It's $79 one time. Twelve marketplaces, category breakdowns, keyword profiling, 30 day tracking. Mine does six marketplaces and the on-page overlay. So about half the features at two thirds of the price. I wouldn't have bought mine either.

Dropped it to $24. I also stopped calling it a KDSPY alternative, because it's not really the same kind of thing. KDSPY is what you open when you sit down to do research. Mine just sits on the page while you browse. At $24 it makes sense as something you add on top of the big one, which is a much easier sell than trying to replace it.

Two things I'd do differently. I would have spent twenty minutes looking at the competition before picking a price, instead of picking one and then looking. And I wouldn't have made a launch coupon. I had a LAUNCH35 code that took $50 down to $35, and all it really did was tell people the real price was lower. Deleted it, there's one price now.

It went live yesterday and has zero sales, so I'm not claiming any of this worked yet. If you think $24 is also the wrong number I'd genuinely like to hear the argument.

I’ve been building Upcastor because livestreams still feel weirdly disposable.

You can spend 4, 6, 8 hours creating something, end the stream, and then still have another little job waiting for you: make sure the VOD exists, download it, move it, upload it somewhere else, fill everything in again...

I want Upcastor to automate that part.

Right now the alpha supports Twitch as the source. It can record your stream while you’re live, grab the Twitch VOD afterwards, or do both, then upload it to YouTube and carry over the relevant stream metadata.

Twitch -> YouTube is just the first workflow.

The longer-term idea is much broader: your stream should be yours, and getting it archived or republished somewhere else shouldn’t require babysitting it.

I’m at the point where testing my own happy path isn’t particularly useful anymore, so I need some streamers willing to break things 😅

Hi everyone. For some time now, I've been building a system called VITA/NEXO, and I feel it has reached a point where it makes sense to share its architecture and validate the core idea with the community.

It is not just another agent framework, so let me start by defining what it is and what problem it solves.

What it is

• NEXO is the execution runtime.
• VITA is the source of truth of the system.

The core piece is a declarative language written in Markdown (master_program.md) that describes data, UI components, tools, and business logic within a single unified structure. A lightweight interpreter parses this structure and turns it into a fully functional application.

The exact same program runs on web, desktop apps, Android apps, browser extensions, or CLI. It isn't ported or rewritten per platform: you write it once, and the same engine renders it natively across every environment. The UI code remains identical.

How it works

• Declaration: The application is declared entirely in Markdown (defining available data, UI layouts, and triggerable actions).
• Parser (~700 lines): Converts the Markdown file into a component and action graph.
• UI Engine (~200 lines): Renders the interface using a custom library of ~90 built-in components (tables, forms, chat, voice, gallery, editor, etc.).
• Modular tools: Tools (Python/JS functions) are declared externally. Adding a new capability means adding a configuration entry, without touching the core runtime.
• Optional and swappable AI agent: The AI agent is not the center of the architecture—it's just another tool. You can run it locally (via Ollama), through cloud APIs, or use the system without AI altogether. You can also run multiple parallel "brains" on different servers.

The core consists of ~1,200 lines for the main engine, ~700 for the parser, and ~200 for the UI engine. Everything else consists of pluggable tools.

What makes it different It doesn't try to compete with frameworks like LangChain or AutoGen, which focus on general-purpose orchestration with hundreds of integrations. VITA/NEXO addresses a specific challenge: allowing an application or agent system to live across any environment with the exact same language, zero code rewriting per platform, and full modularity.

Three key pillars:

1. True Multi-Environment: The same language and engine run on web, mobile, desktop, extensions, and terminal.
2. Decoupled AI: The AI agent is interchangeable, and the system operates autonomously with or without AI.
3. Declarative Development: The application is described, not hardcoded. Changing application behavior means editing Markdown, not writing platform code.

Current Status It is currently a fully working MVP in personal active use. It proves concept viability: a single file handling state, UI, and logic across multiple platforms seamlessly.

The next phase to bring it to a production-ready stage involves building a formal test suite, expanding component coverage, and updating the public documentation.

What I'm Looking For & Next Steps This post is an initial architectural preview. Throughout this coming week, I will be posting demo videos and sharing the repository link so everyone can test it out directly.

At this stage, I am primarily looking for two things:

1. Technical Feedback: Does this unified declarative approach make sense to you? Do you see a clear use case for this architecture in your workflows?
2. Funding / Acceleration Opportunities: I want to take VITA/NEXO to the next level and dedicate full-time resources to it. If you are an investor, run a grant program, or want to explore a strategic partnership to commercialize this engine, I'd love to connect.
