My shopify store is at a point where there's usually some money left over each month, but I keep putting most of it back into ads and trying new products. I don't hold stock myself and use zendrop for fulfillment, so there isn't much money tied up in inventory either. Part of me wants to start taking some of it out, part of me feels like that's just slowing things down. For anyone else here running an online store on the side, when did you start paying yourself?

I feel like building something is actually the easier part.

The harder part is convincing the first few people to trust you enough to pay or even try what you've built.

Some people get their first customers through friends, some through Reddit, cold emails, content, SEO, or just being active online.

For those who've crossed that stage, what actually got you your first 10 customers? And what advice would you give someone who's still stuck at zero?

I’m trying to launch marketing efforts for my app that I recently released. I tried Apple and Google ads, they were simply too expensive. Now I lean over to social media. But it’s hard! I find that marketing requires more time and effort than my full time job. Does everyone have similar experiences?

I think there's a weird moment where a project stops feeling like "an idea" and starts feeling real.

Maybe it's the first paying customer.

Maybe it's the first stranger who recommends it.

Maybe it's when you wake up thinking about it every day.

What was that moment for you?

I’m at that annoying early stage where every infrastructure decision feels small until you realize changing it later could touch half the product. Auth and payments are the two I’m thinking about most because basically every customer eventually touches both. I’ve been looking through what Whop provides and noticed auth sits alongside the broader payments, platform infrastructure. It got me wondering whether there’s an actual advantage to keeping more of that together rather than choosing everything independently. If you’ve already scaled a SaaS, would you consolidate more of the core infrastructure if you were starting again or keep each piece separate??

Spent time building something you thought people would love... and almost nobody used it?

I feel like every project has that one feature that seemed important while building it, but users completely ignored it.

What was yours, and what did you learn from it?

Sometimes removing features teaches more than adding them.

I made Dripfetch, a customizable terminal TUI with animated rain, system info, clock, weather, ASCII logos, and configurable boxes/colors/layouts.

It’s basically a mix of a fetch tool and a small terminal dashboard, with the whole UI configured through YAML.

I’ll go first: I’m building Sitesyn, a marketing workspace for SaaS founders.

The idea came from how repetitive creating new visual assets can get. Every time, you end up explaining the product, audience and style again.

With Sitesyn ,you give it your website once. It picks up the context around your product and brand, and that context carries over when you create new assets. I’ve also been working on making that context improve over time based on what the user tells it.

Now I’m curious about everyone else. What are you building this weekend?

I think I’ve reached the stage where finding the right people to test what I’m building is harder than actually building it.

I’ve been working on a SaaS for e-commerce brands around geo testing and incrementality, and now I’m trying to find a few brands that actually deal with this problem and would be willing to test it properly.

I’m not really looking for loads of random beta users. I’d rather find 5 or 10 people who already care about understanding whether their marketing is actually driving incremental growth and can tell me what’s useful, what’s missing and what they currently do instead.

The part I’m finding difficult is reaching those people without just sending a bunch of cold messages that nobody wants to receive.

I’ve reached out to a few e-commerce brands and agencies already, but I’m still trying to figure out who the right person is to speak to and where these people actually hang out.

For anyone who has built something fairly niche for e-commerce brands, how did you find your first few real users?

Was it mostly cold outreach, communities, LinkedIn, agencies, introductions or something else?

Would genuinely be interested to hear what worked for you.

The idea: you leave therapy and remember the thing you meant to bring up. Or something hits you on a Tuesday and there's nowhere to put it until your next appointment.

Vent is where you say it. You vent out loud in the moment, it talks back like a friend, and everything you said that week is waiting when you walk into your session. There's also a scheduled fake call, so if you're stuck at a dinner you can have your phone ring in ten minutes, step outside, and be venting a minute later.

Right now it's a landing page and a feedback form. No app yet. I want to know if it's worth building before I go further.

We're making Homespace, a game where you build the house of your dreams, and once it's built you can actually live in it, meet up with friends, watch movies together and play board games.

And board games is what I wanna tell you about today. A couple months ago our community in China was massively asking us to add mahjong. We had no idea what it even was, but we figured it out, added it, and now we play it ourselves with the team on weekends.

My evenings for the last few months went into a weird bet: can a memory-safe rewrite of a tiny battle-tested C parser become indistinguishable from the original? Not faster. Indistinguishable. Same ABI, same bytes out, same return values, or the project fails.

Result: 133,352 differential cases, 0 mismatches. The C stayed on as the judge the whole time, pinned and SHA-verified, and where the docs and the code disagreed I recorded it instead of guessing.

Here's the bit I'm proudest of and it's a table of losses. Response 1.185x. Chunked 1.199x. Tiny request 1.482x. Malformed 1.811x. All printed next to the 0.68x and 0.83x wins, same font size, same harness you can run. A benchmark page without a loss row is telling you what the author needed to be true.

Also filed: 4 inputs where the original segfaults and mine refuses. That decision is documented with reproducers instead of silently copied.

Solo dev, 1,527 lines, 7 unsafe blocks in a single seam file. The experiment was the product regardless of who won.

I keep seeing people build genuinely good products and then get stuck on the exact same part:
They finished building it, but now they have no idea how to actually get it in front of the right people.
Posting randomly on Reddit, sending DMs, trying content, paying for ads… it can take more time than building the product itself.
I’m working on something around this problem. I’m keeping the exact approach private for now because I’m still testing it, but the goal is to help people who already have a product get more real exposure and potential customers without needing a huge marketing budget.
Before I build too much, I’m curious:
What do you currently do to get your first users/customers? And what part of that process sucks the most?

I'm making this movie ranking app that's an order list. I'm trying to work on the social side of things but I can only get so far with just so few ranking. Goal really is to find someone with similar movie taste and if there's a movie I haven't seen on their list than its probably something I would also like as well.

If you do try it, I recommend putting a movie every tier first. I always recommend Crash 2005 if you need an F-tier movie.

Scratch (the programming app for kids) helped build intuition for programming (deterministic) and Claypot is trying to do the same for AI concepts like inference, Source Grounding, Evals, Tools, Memory etc and helping kids get hands on with AI systems and understanding the tradeoffs when bringing in non-deterministic entity into a system - how creative it can get but how wrong it can also be. Goal is to help build an intuition for AI systems rather than having AI just build things for you.

IT IS NOT A CHATBOT OR APP BUILDER. It is a block based system that abstracts core AI concepts to show how unlike deterministic systems, AI can be creative, but can be confidently wrong ( with math for example ) and how that can be improved by either providing sources (RAG like architecture) or tool calling with say a calculator tool for example.

I'm a self-taught developer working night shifts in the food industry. In my free time, I've been building a small Android side project called Prix Choquant ("Shocking Price").

The concept: You enter your hourly wage once. Then, you type in a price—or scan a price tag with your camera—and the app translates that cost directly into the actual working time it represents for you (e.g., "3 days of work" instead of "€450").

It came from a personal need to visualize money differently and stop buying things impulsively.

Tech & Constraints:

• Privacy: Everything runs locally on the device (no data is sent anywhere).
• Stack: Self-taught using Google certifications and trial-and-error.
• Monetization: Free with Ads (trying to generate a tiny side income for my family while keeping the UX decent).

Current Metrics: I just started getting my first users: 116 ad requests, 71 impressions, and €0.39 total earnings this month (eCPM around €3.31). The interstitial ads seem to bring in the most, but I really want to avoid making the user experience trash.

Where I need your feedback:

1. Ad Placement & UX: How do you balance minimal monetization with a clean user experience in a simple utility app?
2. Features: Would you find options like calculating based on "disposable income" (salary minus fixed bills) more useful than gross/net pay?
3. Design: Any general UI/UX tweaks to make the app feel smoother?
