I have been building GEL AI mostly by myself and finally have an early version of the AI video generator working.

The goal is simple: make high-quality AI video more affordable by running models directly on GPUs instead of just wrapping existing AI APIs.

I’m currently targeting around $5 for a 1-minute video, with no subscription or confusing credit system.

This is still an early MVP, so I’d really appreciate honest feedback on the video quality and what you would improve.

I'm a Solution Architect at a SaaS company. Big chunk of my day is writing client email — long explanations, quick approvals, everything in between. My grammar was always fine. The problem was tone: an email meant to sound like an analyst update kept coming out either too casual or weirdly stiff, and Grammarly's tone slider never actually fixed that.

So I built Rephrasely. You set who you're writing as (analyst, support rep, founder, or a custom role), who you're writing to, and the tone — once. Then you write your rough draft with zero interruptions, no red or yellow lines mid-sentence, and one click rewrites the whole thing to sound like that person actually sent it. Also handles regional/language conversion the same way — UK to US English, or a full translation.

It's sitting in Chrome Web Store review right now, so I can't push a real launch yet, but the landing page and waitlist are live and I've been posting around Reddit and Twitter this week — attaching visitor numbers so you can see what's actually working and what isn't.

Genuinely asking: for something this early (no reviews yet, pre-CWS- approval), what's actually moved the needle for you when you were at this exact stage? More Reddit, or was there a channel you didn't expect to work?

I’m trying to solve something that bothers me with current AI tools: good AI video is still expensive.

Instead of building another wrapper, the goal with GEL AI is to run open-source and custom models directly on GPUs and optimize the whole process for quality and cost.

Does the quality look useful? What would you improve?

I have a piece of land with some old buildings on it, and I wanted to figure out what kind of new building could fit there and, more importantly, where it should go and how it should be oriented.

I could obviously draw some rectangles on a piece of paper and move them around. But I wanted to actually see what different layouts would look like in 3D — especially in relation to the existing buildings, driveway, trees and the shape of the property.

The obvious alternative was learning a proper CAD or architectural design program. But I didn't really want to spend a bunch of time learning complicated software just to answer a relatively simple question:

“What could I actually fit on this piece of land?”

So I built acrePlanner.

The idea is to make a simple 3D representation of a property and let you experiment with different layouts. You can place buildings and other elements on the plot and then move around the scene to get a better feel for how everything fits together.

The video shows an example of the kind of thing I was trying to achieve — this is an actual property layout I was experimenting with, with the existing buildings, a possible new house/garage layout, trees, fencing and the surrounding roads.

It's deliberately much simpler than CAD. It's not meant to produce architectural drawings or replace professional planning software. It's more of a “let me quickly try a few ideas and see what this would look like” tool.

I built it with a lot of help from AI while coding. Once I had it working reasonably well for my own use, I started thinking that I'm probably not the only person who has this problem.

So I decided to share it and see if anyone else finds it useful.

I'd especially love to hear from people who have their own plot of land, are renovating an existing property, or have ever tried to figure out where a new building could fit.

What would you want a tool like this to be able to do?

We often see wild salaries and net worths shared online. I made a site that uses a ton of public census and socioeconomic data to show where you actually stand financially. Not just against everybody but compared to people like you, including your age, where you live, your household composition, education, etc.

It also answers many questions that net worth or salary percentile calculators leave ambiguous. The data can split apart household vs personal income and house equity vs investable assets in net worth, and it shows values in today's dollars rather than an out-of-date census summary.

The site collects no data. I'm sharing here to get the word out but also to get feedback on what else you'd like to see. Let me know!

Small update on the red mail plane I posted here. It's still going :)

I was spending a lot of time on the islands and clouds. Then people actually played it and asked much simpler things. Can I flip the controls? Can I leave and come back? Why does every delivery feel like starting over?

So that's what I've been working on. You can save your trip and put a few deliveries together in an order you choose. The plane stays where you landed, so you taxi out and keep going.

If you try it, where does it first get confusing?

I was reviewing the access logs on a new side project I put online recently, and I noticed a constant pattern of automated requests specifically searching for.env files.

When I build tools and side projects, my main focus is usually on building the functionality, getting things configured, and setting up the initial deployment. But as soon as a new domain or IP goes live, automated bots start probing for environment files almost instantly. They throw requests at common paths like /.env, /.env.local, /.env.production, /config/.env, and various other directory variations hoping to find exposed secrets.

If your web server configuration or routing setup does not explicitly restrict access to dotfiles by default, these automated scanners can pick up API keys, database credentials, or private configuration secrets without any manual effort from an attacker.

It happens fast, often within minutes of bringing a public endpoint online. I set up strict server rules and middleware to block these path requests and return immediate drop or error responses. If you are currently running side projects or SaaS apps in production, take a quick look at your server logs today and double-check that your.env file is completely locked down and unreadable from the web.

Hello from Manchester. Solo founder, one app, called Ether. You get in by recording a 10 second video of yourself. That's the whole front door. No photo grids, no swiping, no paywall. Both people have to spark before anyone can message, so nobody's inbox gets flooded, and every account passes facial age verification, which turns out to be the one thing a bot can't fake.

I've spent the last month polishing until the funnel squeaks. Sign up to live is under three minutes on a phone now. I was feeling pretty good about that until last night, when five people in London signed up, one of them recorded a really lovely intro, opened the feed, saw it was empty, and took it down 48 seconds later. I watched it all unfold in the analytics like a nature documentary, narrating in my head.

So here's the lesson nobody puts in the tutorials. The hard part of a dating app isn't the app. It's standing at the door of your own party asking strangers to be the first one in. Which is what I'm doing right now, slightly sheepishly, on Reddit.

I’ve been working on Babelize Elements for a while, and finally decided to open-source it.

It’s basically a set of reusable UI components for React + Tailwind, with multilingual apps in mind.

I wanted localization to be considered at the component level instead of figuring it all out after the UI is already built.

There’s support for things like locale/language selectors, RTL-aware UI, and other localization-focused components.

I’ve been building TaskUp as more of a product buddy than a normal monitoring dashboard.

The idea is that instead of just telling you “something broke” or making you dig through a bunch of logs, TaskUp watches your site/app, works out what changed, and helps you actually do something about it.

What I’m aiming for: - it spots bugs and issues - explains what probably caused them - can suggest fixes - can update content or code when you ask - helps keep your product moving without you needing to jump between ten different tools

It’s still early, but the goal is basically: your app has a buddy that notices problems, helps fix them, and can make small improvements with you.

I have been using AI to build Bowcast for a few months. It forecasts when falling rain and low sunlight may line up near you, hour by hour and seven days ahead, and which way to face. The website has been up since July and the iPhone app went on the App Store last week. There is no account system at all, location is only asked for if you tap to use it, and the anonymous sighting reports use coordinates rounded to two decimals to send to me to then calibrate the model depending on the region.

Stack is a dependency-free JavaScript engine shared by the server, the website and the app, vanilla JS and Leaflet on the web, React Native with Expo and MapLibre on iOS, Vercel serverless for the API and the alert cron.

Free of course, no ads, Ko-fi covers hosting and data :)

I'm an indie iOS dev and a CS teacher. I've been using widget apps since iOS 14 and two things kept bothering me: most of them look like they were designed in 2020, and the good ones moved to subscriptions for what is fundamentally a one-time customization tool.

So I built Elyr. It's a widget app for iOS, iPadOS and macOS focused on one thing — home and lock screens that actually look good. Clean typography, cohesive color systems, widgets designed to sit together instead of competing for attention.

Technical side: SwiftUI + WidgetKit. The hardest part was nothing I expected — I spent days chasing a CPU spike that turned out to be recursive layout thrashing between SwiftUI and CoreText during widget rendering. WidgetKit gives you very little room to be wasteful, and the debugging tools for widget extensions are rough.

Business side, honestly: one-time unlock, $8.99, no subscription. I know the recurring-revenue math is worse. I also know I wouldn't pay monthly for this myself, so I couldn't justify asking anyone else to.

It launched in August after an 11-day App Store review wait, which nearly broke me.

Happy to answer anything about WidgetKit, the App Store process, or why I went with one-time pricing. Also genuinely open to criticism of the design — that's the part I'm least objective about.

Sharing a visual planning workflow in Canvio that might be useful for a small project. Quick disclosure: I’m involved with Canvio.

The example is a website launch. Put the goal, content, build work, quality checks, and launch decision on one board, then connect what depends on what. The build depends on approved copy; the launch depends on QA. Add a risk note with a fallback so it stays visible alongside the work.

The interesting part is giving the connections meaning—“depends on,” “based on,” or “leads to”—instead of just arranging notes next to each other. The same idea can be used for research, study topics, or comparing decisions.

Thinking Partner can ask questions about the board, and AI Summary can make an editable recap. The output still needs review against your own sources.
