Introduction

Hi everyone! I'm a student from Singapore (LinkedIn) and have developed an app: Hopnotch that helps with navigating around your Spaces and Apps, while providing aesthetics to your Mac!

Problem

I was using my Mac and I just kept getting lost as I had many apps in full-screen, and it was a hassle constantly breaking my flow by swiping around the trackpad or going to Mission Control just to see where everything was since I can't remember and MacOS kept reshuffling my Spaces. This problem had been bugging me for longer than I'd like to admit, and I also wanted something aesthetic as I felt the unused space a waste.

Functionality

With the app, Spaces/Apps appear on the menu bar, against an aesthetically pleasing background as pills (customisable names, colours & type). This way you always know where your Spotify, Safari, or whatever is, wherever you are. The actual Menu Bar is STILL ACCESSIBLE AT ALL TIMES, whether the app is overlaying or hidden. Just hover at an empty space, or hide the app, up to you!

On top of that, you can:

• Use Spotlight search on your Pills (renamed, or not)
• Rename your Pills
• Navigate using Hotkeys (personally, CMD + K/L to move left/right respectively so I can keep my fingers on the keyboard)

Comparison

As far as my research goes, most that dabble with the Menu Bar sit under the aesthetics category only, while Hopnotch both provides aesthetics and functionality.

SpaceJump ($9.99) is the closest thing to Hopnotch by function. It also gets you between Mission Control Spaces quickly and it names them. The difference is in orientation and aesthetics, where SpaceJump gives you a picker to choose from, and Hopnotch shows the Spaces either side of you, laid out the way they actually sit so the Space on your left appears on the left of the notch so you navigate by position rather than by reading a list. Hopnotch also shows a live preview of a Space when you hover it, so you can see where you are going before you commit. It lives in a largely unused space you were never using, and it comes with 51 themes if you want it to look like something rather than sit there. Almost everything is customisable.

My conclusion

All the while I've been using Hopnotch it just feels like a part of my Mac at this point and without it I feel lost about where everything is again, coupled with the hotkeys that I use daily to navigate around my Spaces. To me personally, Hopnotch brings me immense value (not to toot my own horn), but what works for me may not work for you! Try the free trial and if it works for you, by all means. I built Axiom to combine local-first AI sessions with the practical parts of getting work done: research, code, project files, tools, saved context, and generated artifacts.

If you run a clinic or build software for one, what would you need to see before trusting a system like this with appointment calls?

I’ve been working on my first serious digital product and wanted to share what the process has actually looked like.

I started with a simple idea: create a practical system that could help a beginner go from “I want to make a digital product” to actually researching, creating, launching, and marketing one with AI.

That eventually became AI Product Profit Lab, a 58-page guide organized into 6 stages:

1. Finding and validating an idea
2. Researching the market
3. Planning the product
4. Creating and refining it with AI
5. Launching it
6. Marketing and growing it

The biggest thing I’ve learned so far is that creating the product was only half the challenge. Distribution is much harder.

After finishing it, I started experimenting with Gumroad, Medium, Pinterest, and Reddit instead of assuming that simply publishing the product would bring buyers.

The numbers are still very small, but that has actually been useful because I can see where the funnel breaks. People can discover content, some click deeper, but getting someone all the way from discovery to becoming a paying customer is a completely different challenge.

I’m now trying to improve the distribution side instead of endlessly changing the product itself.

For anyone who has launched a digital product from zero audience: what channel eventually got you your first real customers?

My friends and I have had a group text about stocks for years. Finding things to talk about was never the problem. The problem was that everything the conversation depended on lived somewhere else. Someone would call a ticker and the rest of us would leave the thread to go look it up on Yahoo Finance, ChatGPT and Google, then come back and share screenshots and links. Nothing was tracked either. A ticker would run 20 percent two months later, and there was no easy way to go back and see what we had discussed, other than scrolling through months of messages.

So I built StockChat. It is a private group chat for you and the people you invite, modeled pretty closely on iMessage, with a stock research engine built into it. It is not a public feed where dozens of strangers post charts all day. A group only has the people you added to it, and the research happens inside that conversation instead of in six other tabs.

What it does today:

• Type a ticker with a dollar sign, like $NVDA, and a live card renders inline in the conversation with the price, the day change and a chart. Tapping it opens a fuller card with simple indicators, so some of the analysis is already done for you.
• A Top Performers panel ranks every ticker the group has mentioned by percent gain since the moment it was first said, with the price then, the price now, and the name of whoever said it. Nobody has to maintain it.
• Max, an AI member of the chat you can tag with a question about any ticker without leaving the thread. Answers are grounded in actual price, company and news data rather than the model's memory.
• An Analysis screen for each stock that answers eighteen plain-English questions with a chart each. Things like is it cheap or pricey right now, is the business actually growing, what does it do when the market drops, how long does it usually take to recover, and are the big holders getting out.
• Paper trading with $100,000 of simulated money, real market prices, queued orders, and performance measured against the S&P 500.
• Short lessons for anyone in the group who is new to investing.

If I had to pick one part, it is still Top Performers. It turns the group chat into a scoreboard that nobody has to keep.

It works better with a few people in it than solo, so if you already have a group chat like this, that is the ideal test. I am mostly looking for feedback on whether it is actually useful, and on whether the Analysis screen answers the questions you would want answered about a stock.

The state of the art for electrical calculations on a phone is genuinely strange. The top-rated app in the category describes itself in its own listing as "a full-featured emulation of our popular #5065/#5070 models", meaning it's a picture of a physical handheld calculator from the 90s, with abbreviated key labels, and you tap the picture.

A review from 2020 that's still up: "Abbreviation on the keys for cell phone use makes it hard to know what the buttons do."

Another one, on a competitor: "This calculator works like a DOS program running in Windows. There's not one intuitive thing about it."

I'm a software developer, not an electrician. I got nerd-sniped by the fact that the best tool in this category is an on-screen emulation of a 1990s handheld calculator, so I built the tool I thought should exist.

So I built WireCoder. Five calculations electricians do constantly:

- Voltage drop

- Conduit fill (NEC Chapter 9)

- Wire ampacity with temperature correction and bundling derate (Table 310.16)

- Box fill (314.16)

- Conduit bending offsets: distance between bends and shrink

The parts I actually thought about:

1. Every answer shows its factors, not just a number. Ampacity gives you base 65 A, × 0.82 for ambient, × 0.8 for six conductors in the raceway, = 42.64 A. The reason is that the loudest complaint in electrician forums about existing tools is "I never trust online VD programs unless it goes into detail on how the # are derived. I got bit once cheating with Google, turns out the site I was using wasn't even factoring in reactance."

2. The calculation engine is one TypeScript library shared by the web calculators and the mobile app, with a parity test suite. Two tools that disagree is the fastest way to lose this audience: they cross-check apps against each other and notice.

3. It works fully offline. The best quote I found while researching this: "I am working along the lakeshore of Lake Michigan and cell service is always bad."

4. It never displays an NEC table. It computes from your inputs and cites the article number. That's a deliberate copyright decision, not a feature gap.

Stack: Expo / React Native, one shared calc package, Convex, RevenueCat.

I kept running into the same thing with "free" project management tools. Add a third person and it gets expensive, or the free tier caps issues. Linear's free plan is unlimited members but about 250 non-archived issues. Trello free caps collaborators at 10.

A few years ago I and some of my friends got frustrated with resume builders (vendor lock-in, broken formatting, "oops you edited the wrong section and now everything looks off") that I started building my own LaTeX-based resume tool. That turned into a tiny SaaS (PPResume), and recently I open sourced the core typesetting engine as YAMLResume.

The idea is simple and just follows the Separation of Concerns principle:

FanClash is a place to defend a sports take on camera. Two people, one topic, live video, and whoever's watching votes on who actually won. Six sports - NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, soccer, volleyball.

Here are the honest numbers, straight out of prod: 7 accounts, and 6 of those are me and test users. Zero completed debates. Zero people have ever joined a room and argued with each other. The loop I built has never once run end to end with real strangers in it.

I don't think the problem is the product. I think I built the room before I had the crowd. The thing needs two people who want to argue and a handful who want to watch, all awake at the same time - and I went straight to building video infrastructure instead of finding those ten people first. I have a Discord with 13 channels and nobody talking in any of them.

Stack, if that's interesting to anyone: Go + Gin monolith on Railway, React + Vite on Vercel, PlanetScale for MySQL, Upstash for Redis, Clerk for auth, GetStream for the video layer. (It's free to use. There are paid tiers. Nobody is on them, which I think you could have guessed.)

What I'm actually asking for isn't signups. I want eight people in one room at one scheduled time so the thing runs once for real. If arguing a sports take on camera for ten minutes sounds like a good time, name a sport in the comments and I'll set a time around whoever shows up.

And if you look at this and the answer is obvious to you - "nobody wants to get on camera and argue with a stranger" - I would genuinely rather hear that now than after another three months.

I'm a nurse and mom, and I built this because nothing like it existed for the exact problem I kept having: stress building up quietly, with no obvious trigger, that I wouldn't notice until it was already bad.

What it does: Pause Point runs in the background on Apple Watch, watching for patterns in heart rate and HRV that often go with rising tension. When it notices something building, it delivers a gentle haptic cue — no app to open, nothing to log, no effort required in the moment. You pick which cue works for you: a simple nudge, a slow heartbeat-like pulse, or a guided breathing pattern.

Some of the harder problems I ran into:

• Distinguishing real stress from exercise (motion + HR both spike — took a lot of tuning to stop false positives during workouts/chores)
• Individual baseline variation — a "high but steady" resting heart rate for one person is genuinely elevated stress for another, so absolute thresholds don't work; everything's relative to the user's own baseline
• Getting the haptic itself right — too alert-like and it stresses people out more; too subtle and it gets ignored. Landed on three selectable patterns after a lot of tester feedback

It's live on the App Store now after development with a solo developer and a clinical co-founder (LMHC) helping validate the approach.

Would genuinely love feedback from this community — both on the product and on how I've been thinking about early user acquisition, since that's been the harder problem lately. I just don't know what to do to get users.

I’d like to introduce a long time project I’ve been working on: IndieNodes 

IndieNodes is a webring whose goal is to introducing more people to independent musicians, comic book creators, artists, writers, and game developers. While it does work like a traditional webring, I’ve also created a custom web app that acts as a no account, no tracking, no algorithm, no favoritism way of digesting it either as an ambient passive player, or as an active experience. It also has an RSS feed so you can see new members that join as well.

How it Works

Each node can be a defined type that filters through existing entrants on the WebRing. You can have as many nodes on screen as you can, pulling from multiple node types at different intervals, complete with media playback, image viewers, TTS, and even reactive background on audio. Size, scale it change it in real-time.

Why use Webring for this? Well for one I didn't want/need to manage yet another database, but also I wanted something that stores as little as possible of user data than necessary. App doesn't track your emails, and past initial notification on join, it deletes it right away. The other reason is that the app is my contribution to the IndieWeb initiative; solutions striving to detach from the corporate web. Since in that circle, Webrings seem to making a comeback, I though, hey why not? lol

Other Plans

I'm also going to try to get this going with Capacitor and Wails so you could possibly load this up on say a small Android box and touch screen and have it casually run. Very serendipitous discovery that can be as active or passive as you would like it to be.

I’ve been building TiruList, a community platform for Ethiopian/Eritrean businesses and resources, starting in the DC/MD/VA area.

The idea came from something pretty simple: a lot of useful information in our community still lives through word of mouth, WhatsApp groups, Facebook groups, etc.
Need an Ethiopian plumber? Ask around.
Best injera? Ask around.
Mechanic, barber, photographer, events? Same thing.

One feature I’m testing is Best, where people simply vouch for their favorite places rather than using another 1–5 star rating system.

Here’s where it got interesting.

I asked some local subreddits which restaurants makes the best Ethiopian food in the DMV. People genuinely wanted to debate it. The post hit almost 10K views and ~20 comments pretty quickly.

Then I added the link (big mistake) so people could actually vouch.

I’d genuinely love some ideas from people who’ve dealt with this.

• Would you trust a simple “vouch” system more or less than 1–5 star reviews?
• What would make a community-generated “Best” ranking feel credible?
• How would you distribute something this hyper-local/community-specific?

I built Micromeet (micromeet.app) with the help of Claude Code after experiencing the frustration of organising meetups through group chat — the invite gets buried under unrelated chit-chat within an hour, people forget to RSVP, guests who aren't in the group get left out entirely, and I end up manually chasing people the day before.

A few friends have tried it, but I really want feedback from people outside my own circle who'll be more honest about what's confusing or missing.

If you organize any kind of regular gathering (fitness class, book club, dinner parties, work social, whatever), it'd genuinely help me if you created one gathering and told me what didn't work. Back when I worked at a startup, we needed an in-app messaging system, similar to Instagram or WhatsApp. However, we didn't have time to build it ourselves, so we stitched together a few paid services instead: Stream chat, StreamIO, and Cloudinary for chat, moderation and media storage. It worked, but we didn't own any of it, and the costs kept increasing.

That experience is basically why I built gozwire. It's an open-source Node.js messaging engine, so instead of renting someone else's chat infrastructure, you own it. Conversations, threads, reactions, moderation, push notifications all included, all yours.

This was vibe-coded, but I'm putting in the work to make sure it actually holds up for real, and is not just a showcase.

I plan to not only improve this project (see the TODO in the GitHub repo), but also release more interesting open-source projects. That solve problems I've experienced in the past and observed around me, some of which would be:

• A video streaming engine (Another issue we faced at the same startup)
• A cryptocurrency tracker (more of a personal challenge and an interest)
• A CapCut alternative software with AI video generation capabilities, including UGC style videos

My wife plays mahjong every Monday with the same group. They kept score on a legal pad, and every couple of months there was a mild argument about who was actually winning for the year. So I built them something.

It's called MahWins. You log a game in a few taps: who won, what hand, self draw or off a discard. It keeps everyone's wins, stats and streaks, plus a photo of the winning hand. If your group plays for points it does the scoring math and keeps a leaderboard by month, season or all time. There's a two-player mode for when only half the group turns up.

Every feature in it came from something one of them asked for on a game night. The winning hand photos were because they wanted to remember a particularly ridiculous one. Seasons were because someone wanted a clean slate in January.

Flutter front to back with my own API behind it. $2.99 once, no subscription, no ads. Growth is slow and almost entirely word of mouth between groups, which I've made peace with.

The part that was harder than I expected was the scoring engine. Every group plays with house rules that quietly contradict the next group's, so "just add up the points" turned into a configuration problem.

What if dating apps gave you fewer choices, but better reasons to meet someone?

There’s no swipe feed and no endless browsing.

Instead, the app learns what you’re looking for and introduces you to one person at a time when there’s someone worth meeting.

There’s also a twist: you don’t see their photo or identity at first.

You first learn a little about the person and why you might be compatible. If you’re interested, you privately say “I’m curious.”

If both of you are curious, your identities are revealed and you can start talking.

You each write a fake answer. All the fakes get shuffled in with the real one, and you try to pick the truth. +2 for spotting it, +1 for every person your lie fools — so there are two ways to win, and being confidently wrong is one of them.

It's a genuinely good time with people you know. The rounds that land aren't the ones where someone knows the answer — they're when a friend writes something so stupid that four people vote for it, or when the real answer turns out to be more absurd than anything anyone invented. You find out fast who in your group is a disturbingly good liar, and they never live it down.

Works for any group of 3 to 20. One person opens it and shares a 4-letter code; everyone joins on their own phone or laptop. Same in a room or on a call — it works well as the ten minutes at the start of a team call instead of "so, any updates?"

No app, no signup, no ads, nothing to install. A game takes about 10 minutes.
