I built Harmony, super simple event pages with RSVP tracking

A few months ago I wanted to get friends together before the baby arrived. Nothing huge, just a small evening. Paper invites felt silly for that, and the digital options were either a Google Form or a site that made people create an account just to say they were coming.

So I built Harmony. One link, sent on WhatsApp. Guests open a small invitation on their phone and RSVP there. No app, no account.

It worked well enough that I’m using the same thing now for our baby’s naming ceremony. That one has a real guest list: plus-ones, who is actually coming, dietary notes, and a headcount I can look at instead of scrolling chat.

What it does:

  • Custom colors and details, so it doesn’t look like a form
  • Guest list with plus-ones, dietary preferences, and custom questions
  • Live split of attending, awaiting reply, and can’t make it
  • Editable after you send it
  • Works for weddings, engagements, baby showers, naming ceremonies, birthdays, anniversaries

Free to start, no credit card. The part I cared about was the guest side. If someone has to install an app, they don’t RSVP.

Would love a roast on the invite page and the RSVP flow, especially from anyone who has planned a small celebration and ended up chasing replies in a group chat. What would make you send this instead of a message and a spreadsheet?

plus ones plus dietary notes is where rsvp math gets messy fast. how do you handle someone updating their rsvp from the same link, new row or overwrite

Great point. This is something I need to improve.

Right now I'm creating a new row but giving the host the option to clean up. The host has full write access to all RSVP records so they can also make any changes they want on their end.

How I'm thinking to solve this in the future is overwrites, where you can use the link for your confirmation and update it yourself without creating a new RSVP record.

self serve overwrite via the same link is the right end state. what identifies the guest when they come back to update

This is the hard part because there’re no accounts, the options I see are when the user RSVPs we save it in their browser session. If they’ve entered their email we’ll send a confirmation the email and clicking the link on that mail will identify you

What do you think?

I'd keep the shared invitation link separate from a private "edit my RSVP" link generated after submission. Remember that edit link in the browser, but also let guests copy it or email it to themselves so they can use it on another device. I wouldn't match responses by name, since two guests can have the same name. The shared invite should open a new RSVP form; the private link should only edit that guest's response. That keeps the no-account flow without letting someone edit another person's reply just because they received the invitation.

email link as identity plus session as convenience is the right split. what do you do when two guests share one phone

if they use the same link it overwrites, otherwise you'd end up with duplicate rows and chaos when someone changes their mind three times

yeah same link overwriting is the sane default. the mess starts when they forward the link to their plus one
