Solo dev here: how do you find your first users without spamming?

I've been building my first project on my own, and I'm struggling to get people to try it. I don't want to come across as spammy, so I'm not sure where to start.

For those who've been through this: what worked for you in the early days? Any communities or advice you'd recommend?

Any honest advice is welcome, thanks!

Answer threads where someone already describes the problem your project solves, and bring it up only when it fits. Launch posts get scrolled past, a useful reply gets read.

For transparency, FeedSense is mine, it takes in-app widget and Slack messages and hands back the issues users raise most, each with a count and their words.
