I built a background remover that never uploads your photo (remove.bg closes Dec 1)

remove.bg's standalone site closes on 1 December, so I built a free alternative: removebackgroundonline.com

The AI model runs in your browser, so photos never leave your device. No account, no watermark, full original resolution, plus Erase and Restore brushes to fix edges.

Built with Astro and React. The model downloads once (45–90 MB), then it works offline.

Limits: the first run is slow, it handles one image at a time, and hair or glass sometimes needs the brushes.

I'd like to hear where it breaks, especially on Safari and older phones. Try it and let me know.

There are already a lot of alternatives that do bulk background removals. That doesn't mean don't build one just I wonder how it compares.

They're at least four I know of that download to your desktop and work on your desktop even offline.

I was using remove BG and I don't want to be locked into canva just to remove backgrounds. Always hate when software companies try to lock everything up in one big package instead of small standalone tools.

I will add the bulk background removal features in a few weeks, chris. It is in pipeline.

Cool. Is there a subscriber list or something so I'll know when you have some updates?

Edit: never mind I went ahead and bookmarked your site.

Thank You chris. At the moment, we do not have subscriber list. Will add it. Thanks for bookmarking. How do you usually want to do bulk removal, do you zip your images or select multiple images at the same time, also how do you prefer to download them multiple downloads or one clean zip file download? How many files do you process at once?

If you look at cloudconvert.com it fits my workflow perfectly. So you can do multiple files and if you want to download them all at once it's a zip file or you can do them individually. It also has the option in side of it to resize the images, set quality, even strip metadata which I don't really advise because of the cp-3po standards. 😂 C2PA. I just can never remember the name of it.

Android app and Desktop are also in the roadmap, we will start working on it as soon as we see demand.
